Kevin O'Leary clearly didn't do his homework before getting involved with FTX
Way too much egg on his face.
He never does homework when he is blinded by greed - ie most of the time
Or, he did, and decided it was a great fraud to become involved in.
I think he did very well
He opted to be a spokesman for the elicit product. If it failed he could claim ignorance
When he blamed Binance, in spite of everything fraudulent exposed in FTX. That in of itself is a red flag.
There's no question though that Binance helped hasten the collapse of FTX.
@Lovelifehappiness2019
of course, binance played its part... so what in plain and simple terms using customer funds and playing with it is not acceptable 🤔
That's because Binance didn't give sleazy O'Leary a $7 million bribe like someone else did...
When Warren said "when drug companies engage in money laundering", she finally said something I can agree with her on.
freudian slip...hahaha😄
Best comment!
Searched for this. Bravo to you for only making me search down 2 comments!! 😁
I agree! I’m no fan of warren it she’s correct in this instance!
This is a massive issue. Recently libertarianism has been shaken as a concept when you consider the ease at which pharmacies can both launder and tax avoid. The structure of the government has been outclassed and outsmarted by being forced in a corner and must infringe on civic liberties to reclaim control.
Warren is trying to do this exact thing, but the future is beyond her comprehension
IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND IT, DONT INVEST IN IT!
Agree. Moreover, absolutely nobody understands to the very detail btc. Who invented it? Where, why? Why is it that so many people push for its purchase? It smells bad

I can’t stand listening to people who have to read a script. She is a professor, if this is her field of expertise, she should not have to read a prepared statement. Kudos to O’Leary for clearly answering the question, upfront, then providing details to support his argument.
Just because she looks scripted doesn't mean anything. All she did is do her research beforehand and then it looks scripted but really she just did a lot of research and had her notes and was ready to go.

The crypto market is highly profitable with an expert broker just like Mrs Geraldine Lane. I got recommended to her and since then my financial life has been a success

She is a fraud
Indeed, they tried to cut him off the moment he said 'No', absolutely disgusting.
They have extremely limited time
He knew the format and restrictions ahead of time. He was there to answer questions, not pontificate. He chose to waste his time. I'm not a big fan of Elizabeth Warren, but in this case she was doing what she was asked to do. In full disclosure, I'm not a fan of Kevin O'Leary either. People like him want to have financial instruments that aren't well understood by the average investor. Not because the instruments are actually useful, but because they can take advantage of the investors that don't understand them.
Anyone else see how they called O'Leary a 'investor' even though he was the FTX spokesman, and paid over 15m?
How could anyone know they were under leveraged?
I've yet to see a hearing that allows for discussion. They always seem to be more like stages for senators to say what they want to say while cutting off the very people they're asking a question to.

If Alameda took huge losses with users' funds, I'd be interested to know who was at the winning side of that bet, and who in particular took that money home in the end. Who knows, they may have used different accounts to bet against their own Alameda bets, win it with their hidden accounts, withdraw those funds, and then file for bankruptcy once all the money had already left the system.
That is one strategy they are looking at, because Kevin O seems to think they will be able to easily trace where the money went to and what transactions there were over the last 2 years once they get the servers back online and the accounting documentation located.

If I give cash to someone when I buy something from him I don't report it, neither does my grocery shop when I buy groceries from them. As for exchanges, yes they are financial institutions. Binance requires KYC and so did FTX I think. More than that you cannot do and it is done already. Problem is that the real criminals are the owners of some of the exchanges as is apparently clear if the charges against SBF are read. More interesting is the fact that he laundered money to the Democratic Party and they accepted it with a smile. Who regulates them and who did their KYC before accepting the funds? And he did not launder crypto to them, he paid them in USD.

This can only be applied to centralized entities that want to hold these assets. Otherwise its not possible to apply these rules to the blockchain itself. Theres going to be a massive effort to "partially" regulate something that cant truly be regulated.. not sure if its going to work that well
Agreed. She’s yelling at a problem she can’t put a bandaid on which is probably why Kevin looks as astonished as he is.
Blockchakns could easily be regulated but at what cost? The problem is it would do far more damage than it’s worth. People would have to upload their passport and stuff to the blockchain and then it would be public information. Some portion of the public could misuse that private information. The same thing happens with centralized exchanges because the KYC data eventually gets leaked, there’s just a delay.
It can be regulated. If they are concerned about money laundering and criminal use, KYC is just like any other regulation for any other industry in banking. Once you have KYC in place all transactions are tracible since it's an immutable ledger of transactions. Law enforcement would have an easier time and that's already in place. You can still issue money transfer licenses, you can still tax incomes. There is nothing wrong about crypto, it's just the government have no control over it, and they don't like that because you can't enforce sanctions for example if you don't own such system. It's all about gov fear of losing power. The nature of legacy system exerts control, and Crypto undo all that centralized control since it's the nature of decentralization. So, it's not even hard concept. People like Elizbeth is afraid of losing power and control because people she works for is against true freedom. Swift for example, US weaponize that by freezing assets, apply sanctions which is tyrannical in nature. That's the very reason why USD is losing faith fast. A global network for finance is not supposed to be a weapon or a system for total control. US is anti freedom at the same time claiming to be a free and democratic society. It's a load of crap in the face of truth.
Asking incredibly complex, long form questions (that are more like statements) and then giving people 30 seconds to reply.
