  • This circular walk talks in the two Munros to the north of Achnashellach station that sit around Coire Lair. Beinn Liath Mhor and Sgoor Ruadh provide a grand days walking with spectacular views to Torrid and beyond.
It turned out a stunning, dry Autumn day with a strong breeze coming from the south.

Another great mountain excursion, done recently as well. Superb views of the Torridon hills and the immense rock slabs on Maol Chean Dearg's east side. Many moons ago my brother Mark and I did the route in reverse, gaining the ridge to Sgorr Ruadh just north of Fuar Tholl. What an amazing place that is with the immense Mainreachan Buttress up close. We were advised to do it that way as it was easier to access Bheinn Liath Mhor from the col than it was to descend to it, especially in wet conditions, although we found that a steadying hand at a couple of places saw us up to the ridge without problems. And what a ridge that is! Off the south end of the ridge I seem to remember walking around some drumlins on the way back to Achnashellach. These two hills must rank as one of the best walks in Scotland.

    Super video as usual.
    What an early start!
An inglorious tale from my past. Michael and I parked where you parked and did the same route as you. Until on Sgorr Ruadh the mist came down and we spiralled around until we lost our bearings and went down west ending up at Coulags, which, as you know, is a step from Achnashellach. So we have a problem. Michael, always one for a hotel bed and a good dinner, realised we would have to get going since it was now late in the day. Striding out we hitched a builder's truck heading home and I sat while his collie licked my face all the way back to our car. We just made it back to the. Shieldaig Hotel in time for civet of hare, the only time I have eaten that.

Wow. What a day you got. Fantastic views in all directions.
Smart idea to double back off 2nd Munro and take the Corrie path out. The route heading south off the top is a bit of a trudge.

I see you had a break in the recent poor weather, and it made for a fantastic day for you. Looked cold? I love all of Scotland’s mountains, but the Torridon / Loch Carron area is my favourite. The giants of Torridon never cease to amaze. Lovely video, thank you.
