The fact that this decks struggles in this meta really goes to show how hostile the meta is towards midrange decks
Being that devastator and vindicator can only be interacted with through hard removal, I have no real sympathy here lol
Thanks for the game - didn't realise I was playing you (red opponent) till after the game - was trying to be gigga smart - had muted you to reduce toxic emote spam GG! Watching it back I would have got the right attack if I cast Kumano after the swiftspear - mono red brain fade (was on red daily quest)

Yeah - shame for paying mono red! But also crazy game. Every round was a new chance to win against the two biggest shutdowns of mono red.

15:28 No it is not different than damage. Creatures can receive damage higher than their toughness (When you have an indestructible creature you can actually see its toughness go to negative numbers. Also when you use say lightning strike on a 1 toughness creature you will see its toughness go to -2 before it disappears).
On a side note the game allows you to tick an option called "manually assign combat damage" which I always use since the day I felt I got trolled long ago in some combat involving trample and deathtouch (i forgot the details). I recommend you try it as it helps you better understand the Assign combat damage step

@@lolbajset I don't know. Long ago, trample was applying the excess damage a creature received to the defender. Which mean if a 1/1 was blocking alongside a 10/10 , your attacking sera angel could assign 5 damage to the 1/1 and therefore excess 4 would be assigned to defender.
Therefore, 20 years ago, a creature could not take more damage than its endurance from trample, but it could be ASSIGNED more and therefore redirect more.
In the same way, a creature could not be TAKE more from a spell than its remaining endurance, so a spell that has lifelink would only heal you up to the target endurance.
Basically, before, the rule was that any excess damage was discarded, trample allowed this excess combat attack damage to be applied to defender, while nowadays excess damage is still applied, trample allows to assign attack damage to defender when the damage assigned to blocker exceeds their endurance-wounds.

15:30 it only hit for 5 the first time because that creature had trample. If it didn't it would've assigned all 18 damage to the creature
That azorius game reminds me of the time I played historic and could not pull any of my 4 field of ruins against the exalted book/creature land combo.
At 15:30 - reason is trample. The creature HAD to deal damage up to health of blocking creature and rest to your face. So Vindicator could only redirect 5 damge - its health.
Spell just deals X to a creature, no matter health of that creature.
And mandatory comment - I DESPISE mono red aggro decks. Or boros aggro decks. Like red has so much cool potential with their spells, like izzet spellslinger idk. But nope, monstrous rage, and 1 mana 1/2 haste PROWESS monk goes BRRR
And it never stops - year after year, more stupid aggro cards get added to Boros/Mono Red - WHY
Technically he could assign more than lethal damage but in this scenario there is no reason to do so and the game automatically assigns damage equal to toughness unless you untick the automatic damage assignment. There are cases in which one might want to do more damage to blocker and less trample damage to face either to benefit from some effect or to counter some effect etc. For example if an opponent has Valkmira (Reidane's other side) your creatures do 1 damage less to the opponent and his creature. If you intend to kill the blocker and don't use manual assignment the game will assign damage equal to toughness which won't be lethal and the blocking creature won't die so you better assign health +1 manually or even more if you think the opponent will buff the creature
