  • ENGLISH SUBTITLES AVAILABLE! THE NEW Subaru Forester meets another Japanese rival - Mitsubishi Outlander. Find out which one of the surprisingly different cars is the best!
    The Subaru Forester is a very popular SUV in the United States of America with more than half a million cars sold the last five years. The Subaru Forester is both practical and has great off-road capabilities with Subaru's symmetrical four-wheel-drive.
    The Mitsubishi Outlander, on the other hand, offers lots of equipment and a more elegant and sleek design. The Mitsubishi Outlander also has a third seat row and a 5 year warranty. The new Mitsubishi Outlander in general is a much stronger contender than its predecessors. But the question is if it is enough to beat the Subaru Forester.

    I've owned both. The Forester was a 2012 and I did like it. Ended up trading it for an Outlander with no regret. As indicated, it's a smoother ride without a doubt. There is also much more cargo space. Frankly, both are good vehicles and either one is a good choice.

    Hi DC! Would love to see A Subie outback with eyesight vs Mit outlander both 4cylinders and I wonder if these two showcased here are of same cubic capacities in terms of engine specs? Thanks for the good review & infos here!!~ From SEAsia.

    Both were on my list due to very similar pricing. If you test drive both cars on the same day and same route like me when both car dealer are in the same area, then the choice is very obvious. The Forester is taller but handles like a sport sedan due to its low center of gravity boxer engine and how well the AWD system, chassis and suspension make this a very grippy and balanced car. Some people who don't really drive fast or go on rough twisty road to appreciate good handling and engine might go for the outlander as it looks chic, fasionable and pretty at first glance. Most older men like me whom had driven more cars in their life will go for the Forester. Forester looks less fasionable but with its more rugged macho look like the Toyota landcuiser and landrover defender that never go out of style.

      +SK L Yes I agree. I thought the same about the appeal to audiences in different age when testing them. With its flashy design, gadgets and big sound system, the Mitsubishi seems to be aimed at the younger audiences. But despite being 26 I also preferred the Forester for exactly the reasons, you describe. It could have been fun, though, also to test it with the 240 hp 2.0 turbocharged engine - That is seriously quick, but you don't really expect it when you see it! And with such a good balance in the car, it could easily handle more power than in the diesel.

      +Drivers car One other considerations then about the Outlander was due to concerns about Mitsubishi dim future and overall lower prestige and pride it give to their owners these days. True enough, a year after , it landed in deeper troubles with the gas mileage scandal. Forester XT 240hp surprised lots of expensive cars with its burst of acceleration and drivers whom though SUVs will need to slow down at corners were surprised that I don't need to do that much with its sharp handling.
      An advice to Forester owners is to adjust your seating position to lowest position which will truely gives you a sedan's low CG feel when doing cornering. You won't loose visibility by doing that due to the large windows and sloped front bonnet.

      The only cars looking better than the Forester (for me) are:
      - Peugeot 2008/3008/5008.
      - Honda CR-V.
      - Volkswagen SUVs:
      -> Tiguan.
      -> Touareg.
      -> T-Roc.
      -> (Atlas, but we don't have the Atlas in Germany).

    WTF? How much? 85 000 $? You have really big prices in Denmark. In Poland it is 26-40 depending on version. In USA for 35 you get a model with V6 engine.

    Wouldn't the Outback be more like the Outlander?
    I have the 2016 Outlander and thanks to your video I now know that I can look up altimeter data and stuff :)
    It is the top trim and came with a sun roof. I am with you about some cheap plastic parts in the otherwise nice cabin. Also the paint is thin, lot's of chips on the hood after the winter. The constant beeping of all the electronic features in the car can get on your nerves.
    Aside from all that the car is great. Roomy, quiet and S-AWC is incredible (we have a country house in the Austrian mountains).
    You were saying the Forester has a better AWD system. Did your Outlander not come with S-AWC that can be turned into a true 4WD by locking the center diff with a button? Check out a demo video I made in our forest. I know the Subaru will pass this test as well, but many other AWD (and even 4WD) will not be able to pass it czcams.com/video/rgKCfZgQUwY/video.html

    • @Driverscar
      @Driverscar  Před 8 lety

      +hossguitar Thank you.
      Yeah you can argue the Outlander would also be a obvious competitor. However, we wanted to test the new facelifted Forester against the Outlander, as they are similar sized and prices. But the Outlander would definitely also be worth considering (we tested it also czcams.com/video/k45ox8H3qXE/video.html), as it also - at least in Denmark - contrary to the Forester is equipped with EyeSight.
      I agree about all the beeping in the Outlander - It was pretty hysterical at some times.. But otherwise, I also think the Outlander is a great and very comfortable car!
      About the AWD, the Outlander had the S-AWC which also works very well. It only pulls the front wheels normally, until there is need for the rear wheels and the electronics figure everything out - As shown in your great video :) But on the other hand, the Mitsubishi system is more fuel efficient and in that way has an advantage over the Subaru system. I found an interesting article about AWD-systems that might be of your interest www.stanleysubaru.com/how-does-subaru-all-wheel-drive-work.htm Also there is great article explaining the advanced system in the Outlander:
      www.mitsubishi-motors.com/en/spirit/technology/library/s-awc.html

    • @bernardhossmoto
      @bernardhossmoto Před 8 lety

      +Drivers car Thanks, yeah I studied all the systems extensively. S-AWC in lock mode actually distributes torque equally to both axles, like any regular good old 4WD. Interesting fact: S-AWC comes from the Evo rally car but there the ELSD is in the rear axle (for better drifting), on the Outlander it is in the front (for better traction).
      I really would have loved to test drive an Outback but there are no Subaru dealers anywhere near me :(
      My cousin in the US has one and she loves it.

    • @Driverscar
      @Driverscar  Před 8 lety

      Thank you for the information - That is interesting. It is quite an advanced system, the Mitsubishi has. Yes, the Outback is a great car also :) Only drawback is the selection of engines in Denmark. The diesel is good, but it would be a complete car, if it had a turbo-charged gasoline engine!

    • @bernardhossmoto
      @bernardhossmoto Před 8 lety

      +Drivers car Same here in Austria, you can have the 250hp engine in the Forester but not in the Outback. Strange.

    • @Driverscar
