The long-awaited guest on my channel is an outstanding Chinese contemporary artist - Ai Weiwei. As well as a curator, critic and founder of a creative studio in China that was destroyed by the government.
He is recognized as the most influential person in the art industry in 2011, and “Time” magazine considers him one of the most influential people in the world.
Ai Weiwei spoke about his childhood in exile on the Russian border, about how, unlike China, Russia can become a democracy, as well as about Western culture and the degeneration of the younger generation.
00:00 - childhood and learning the Russian language
03:46 - Feelings of the death of Mao Zedong
06:21 - Does Russia have the potential to become a democracy?

12:47 - China is a very dangerous place
13:44 - Execution in Tiananmen Square
17:29 - Disillusionment with Western democracy
    18:43 - Admirer of Gorbachev
21:00 - China not ready for change
27:26 - Sichuan earthquake and civil investigation
34:40 - Why was he secretly arrested and why was he released?
36:41 - Why did the Chinese destroy the studio?
40:29 - Cynicism and double standards of the West
43:23 - Could there be an invasion of Taiwan?
44:43 - War in Ukraine and change in China's behavior
    45:41 - Emigration to Berlin
48:59 - Do Nazis still exist in Germany?

    56:44 - Anti-Chinese prejudice in the West

    1:14:22 - "I can become a dictator if I am a politician"
1:15:25 - What would have to happen to China for you to come back?

Fascinating. Mikhail, I've read your book in Russian, and we genuinely miss you in Russian-speaking sphere, but the work you do here is simply fascinating. People you interview are the most interesting and nuanced.

Impressive conversation! I sign under the symbolic items used in the reading messages of the intellectual artist Ai Weiwei's latest exhibition. Accurate life readings! It is obvious that we fought with the same energy that we went through in our lives. I found an artist in Istanbul, Turkey, and Ai Wei, an artist in China. The common complaint we found was the same. Interesting.! I heard that the Chinese keep 200-year-old good quality seeds for future generations. For their future. The events they experienced in Ai and his father raised Ai Weiwei well. May God have mercy on his father too. Kind regards.

Thank you very much for uploading the English version! Like many of the viewers on this version of your channel I'm still a native Russian speaker (which ought to feel a little frustrating for you, considering the effort required to maintain it), but nonetheless I prefer to listen to the interviews in their original language, if I can understand it. Therefore, I appreciate it a lot that you provide an opportunity to do so!
Ai Weiwei is certainly an interesting person with a view of the world that, as one would expect, feels different from the Western-centric thinking that we're used to. Yet also very straightforward, not mincing words at all when it comes to either describing the democratic hypocrisies, criticizing his home country, or even judging his own values. While, after already having listened to so many smart people on your channel and on many other ones, there weren't many new insights for me, it's very refreshing to hear a very to-the-point description of the global state of humanity and its affairs without any sugarcoating.

The 💪🏿of the state is absolute at least that is what it wants the citizen to believe 🤐the state & the citizen are interchangeable factors depending on the political climate control conditions in play

China has fast trains but you can't make a joke about the PLO. You get to your destination really fast and in comfort. Just don't laugh on the train. Time for China to evolve and let Chinese people live.

Hmm, I think a few critical questions are owned, when people on leave dictator states, are talking about west double standards. Nothing (sadly) is perfect. At the same time, as always, very interesting upload. Thank you very much Mikhail, I am very much looking forward to future entries, and hope they come more frequent.
