Maria Lea Carmen Imutan Salonga,[a] OL (/ˈleɪə səˈlɒŋɡə/ LAY-ə sa-LONG-ə;[b] born February 22, 1971) is a Filipino singer and actress. She is best known for her roles in various musical theatre productions internationally. She has received numerous accolades, including a Laurence Olivier Award, a Tony Award, and a FAMAS Award.
Born in Ermita, Manila, Salonga began acting in Philippine musical theatre plays as a child. She rose to international recognition in 1989 for playing the lead role of Kim in the original West End and Broadway productions of Miss Saigon. For her performance, she gained five awards-the Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical, the Drama Desk Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Theatre World Award, and the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Her further roles include Éponine in the Broadway and West End productions of Les Misérables, Wu Mei-Li in the 2002 Broadway revival of Flower Drum Song, Fantine in the 2006 Broadway revival of Les Misérables, Kei Kimura in the original Broadway production of Allegiance, Erzulie in the 2017 Broadway revival of Once on This Island, and Aurora Aquino in the Broadway production of Here Lies Love. In 2023, she began starring in the West End production of the musical revue Stephen Sondheim's Old Friends.

Hello Uncle Momo, Lea Salonga is a Filipina artist from the Philippines. She is one of the best when it comes to broadway music. She sang two iconic songs of Disney which are "Mulan" and theme of "Alladin". She is a legend over here in the Philippines. Lea (pronounced LAY-ah) Salonga is a Filipina actress/singer. She has been performing since age 7 doing theater, albums, concerts, TV and film. She was the original lead in the musical MISS SAIGON in London in 1989 (age 18) and then Broadway in 1991 (age 20) and won all the major theater awards in both countries. This video is from the 10th Anniversary Dream cast concert of LES MIZ in 1995. (Lea also played this role on Broadway in 1993 becoming the first Asian/non-caucasian actress to play Eponine.)
Samantha Barks sang this song in the movie. Ann Hathaway played Fantine in the movie - a part Lea played on Broadway in 2007 and in the 25th anniversary concert of LES MIZ in 2010.

And yes, she sang as Princess Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin in "A Whole New World". She played Eponine in this 10th Anniversary concert and then played Fantaine in the 20th anniversary concert!
I left a comment on your Short of this! I had the amazing opportunity to have seen Lea appear live as Eponine on Broadway in the 1990s. Had the opportunity to see her live again on Broadway too in Miss Saigon. She's among the living Broadway legends! And yes to the other comments: she's Filipina. She grew up in the Philippines and if I'm not wrong, was the first Asian to be blind casted playing a traditionally white role in a major Broadway production.

I think I’m sorry to say ? I’ve never seen anything from this production/show…any of them. In the 50s, I had to read the book as an assignment. At least you made interesting. So sad the lighting on her face was in need.
