In this video I take you through the Loire Valley Central Vineyards (AOCs of Sancerre, Pouilly-Fume and Menetou-Salon) for WSET Level 3. Here you will learn how the AOCs produce premium wine from Sauvignon Blanc with unique geographical and climatic factors and how they affect the final styles.
At the end of the video there is a working example of a written question so you can understand what to expect if a Central Vineyard/Sauvignon Blanc question is to arise, and how to correctly answer it.

First of all thanks a lot for the incredible material.
Just a quick question to clarify regarding the question of Menetou Salon.
Is it even there any produced using Semilion? I thought there was no Semilion used at all in there and in the area in general.
Thanks a lot once more for all those incredibly useful videos and great content!

Many thanks! No semillon allowed in the AOC - but perhaps there some vineyards there. But I don't know for sure

@@WineWithJimmy thanks a lot for clarifying.
I was a bit confused when in the answer one was blending with Semilion that's why I asked!

    • @WineWithJimmy

Not yet - it's not an important section for the L3, and is lower down the list of priorities

Jimmy, In your slide on Sauvignion Blanc you state that blending, MLF, Lees aging, and use of oak are not common in the Loire yet the final question in the video notes all of those would be used to improve quality. Is this a contradiction ?

Nop. When you are premium knowing the rules, you can break it to be unique

Why not Reuilly, red wines are good

You're right - some lovely wines, however it's not important to the WSET L3 syllabus
