Finding the source of the rattle and vibration on this R-Tech yz250

- This bike has only a couple hours since rebuild. The owner brought it to me to diagnose the rattle and vibration. I found the engine mounts were not torqued properly. I torqued the pivot nut to 58 ft lbs and the smaller bolts to 25 ft lbs.

Hey bro. When u said your engine mounts were loose, did they “look “ or “feel” loose? Cuz I swear mine are tight but it’s vibrating like hell and I’m 100 percent top end , bottom end are good we just redid it. I forgot the stator woodruff key, thought that would solve it but it’s still there. I’m wondering if I should just tighten it to bloody hell or what? Any advice or experience you can share with me would greatly be appreciated.
The end of my motor mount bolt broke off so I guess I should just get a new bolt for it?
Yes, make sure you get a proper metric bolt to match the nut. Preferably, you get an OEM bolt. That's how bikes start to go whacky- people start swapping out the wrong bolts and such. Sorry about my tangent, but yes, get a new bolt.
Swingarm/Rear Motor mount bolt huh?
Yep! All the engine mounts were loose. That's a relief it wasn't the bottom end.
Eso soluciono el problema? A mi moto le pasa lo mismo
My 85sx is making the same sound after top end rebuild, did you find the issue?
I checked for movement in the rod, seemed ok so i dont think its the crank, exhaust and springs seem tight. Sound is way worse when driving and i either cant hear it or there isnt any rattle when im on the throttle, as soon as i let off the throttle it vibrates, rattles and grinds like crazyyy
Starts first kick when cold, not a little loss of power too
The motor mounts were loose on this yz250. Since you only did a top end, I don't know what your issue could be. Is there a head-stay bracket on your bike? Maybe that's loose. Or the pipe is hitting the frame. Did you check the squish clearance? Maybe the piston is hitting the head. (That's a necessary step on KTMs). Maybe more compression is agitating the almost-beyond-service-limit rod bearing and giving you a vibration- doubtful on the latter. Keep me posted!
Oh my god. I can't believe this worked. You're a life saver. The motor mounts were really loose, i thought i was gonna have to dig into my already empty pockets. Im so happyyy thank you so much
Why didnt i check the simple things first..😂
My kx 250 is sounding like this i just put cheap ebay springs on the exhaust and it is sounding like the exhaust is going to fall off is this normal with cheap springs
I'd imagine if the springs are not tight enough or vibrating against the frame or pipe, it can certainly make the rattle noise.
@ryanlester30 ok they feel really tight and the bike sounds really good it sounds fine when I'm just starting it up but after I ride it it will literally sound like a ringing bell it does go away but then comes back it seems to only happen at the higher revs it has lots of power and compression doesn't smoke its 32 to 1 mix looks like it's been rebuilt the piston is black with a big shiny N on it it rides and feels like a brand new bike I've never heard anything like it on a bike and I've had 40 bikes or more I just don't want to blow it up I'm 49 and haven't rode in 15 years so I'm not bashing the bike have you ever heard a bell ringing sound before and is it ready to blow up
@rockman49er I'm 47 years old, myself... I had a kx250 a while back and the pipe was hitting the frame and the footage springs were broken. It could be something simple. I'm not sure of a bell sound regarding inside the engine. I wouldn't think it's gonna blow up. I would look outside the bike... engine mounts and pegs and things as mentioned above. Let me know. I'm curious if you find anything.
Isn’t that the Yzingers dude’s bike!? How in the heck do you miss torquing all of those spots!?
Yes it is! (Kyle Hough's bike) I have no idea how they missed the torquing. He had someone else build the bike. He just brought it me to see what all the vibration was about. Lol.
ryanlester761 wow really..
Nothing was torqued. The bottom of the forks even blew out at one out. Took the suspension in after that to a professional suspension shop. I've been constantly tightening bolts. That's why I brought it to Ryan cuz Ive been pulling my hair out. My first bike in 10+ years.
FMXKYLE don’t get too stressed about it because anything that has a coating will often do that (except for anodized parts) because the powder/paint etc crushes when nuts and bolts are tightened, then it loosens up when you ride. Keep checking everything and it will eventually hold torque. I’m sure Ryan told you to throw some kind of lubricant on the threads too because if they put it together dry that will happen too.
My bike doing the exact same thing what causes this?
The engine mount bolts were not torqued tight enough.
@@ryanlester761 yeah the bolts were a bit loose, tighten them back up but it was still vibrating so i took the bottom end apart and there was a bit of surface rust on the crank and bearings, which tells me the seals went bad caused coolant to leak
@@icyt8804 oh yeah if the bearings went bad, it can throw it all put of balance and vibrate. Good catch!
@@ryanlester761 yeah and thanks for the feedback
Looks like the kick is lose to me🤔
The kicker definitely has some wobble to 'er.
