  • In this video, I share my thoughts and experiences with the Convoy S21F (4x519a) flashlight after a week of use. I was impressed by its tint-shifting abilities and compact size, and by the construction quality and design. The USB C charging and quad TIR lens were standout features, and the beam profile was perfect for walking at night. I also compared it to other lights and demonstrated the UI modes. While the smooth ramping was slow, the stepped ramping made up for it. Overall, the Convoy S21F offers modern features at an affordable price, making it a great choice for indoor and outdoor use.

    Convoy S21F (4x519a) Video Transcript
General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • This is the first light I've owned that has tint-shifting abilities. I didn't even know how it worked. Turns out there are 2 cool and 2 warm LEDs in the head. The driver switches between them.
    • It's pretty small! Looked a lot larger in the photos but this is definitely in EDC territory. The construction also reminds me of the M21F. More about that later.
Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel, and reflector
    • Convoy has stepped things up a notch or two in the construction of this light. The machining is noticeably on point with smooth edges and a more intricate, aesthetically pleasing design.
    • The tail cap and the button. Nice LED indicator and colored ring. The button also has a firmness to it, which gives me the confidence to carry it in my pocket.
    • Quad TIR lens with AR glass lens with O-ring in front. This is a huge plus for me. Most lights with TIR optics are easily scratched which can degrade the beam quality over time. The TIR lens looks similar to the ones used on those downlights.
    • Easy to disassemble, no special tools required.
    • USB C charging!
    • I got mine with a 21700 Molicel P42a - a premium battery that has a maximum discharge rate of 45A. Probably not required for this light.
    • Comparison with other lights.
    UI - modes
    • UI demonstration
Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • CCT, CRT, and Ceiling bounce test
    • The quad TIR lens creates a wide, floody beam. A good walking light.
    Considerations
    • Smooth ramping is extremely slow. Fortunately, you can switch to stepped ramping.
    Verdict
I've been very impressed with the latest addition to Convoy's range - it's great to see modern features like USB C charging and tint shifting in a very affordable flashlight. Here you have a light that you can use around the house at night on 2700K and outdoors for maximum visibility. The value for money with Convoy lights is second to none.

I do hope Simon will also consider adapting the S21F with an Anduril 2 firmware like what he is doing with the S21E. Right now the S21E is rolled out with a test batch with Anduril 1, but he mentioned that the final prod version will come with a V2 (the normal simple S21E UI version will still be available). If the S21F is ran with a Anduril 2, I think it will be a very competitive offering from Convoy.

Anduril seems to have much smoother/faster ramps as well. The only issue with the ramp/tint shifting on this light is that it's very slow and sometimes doesn't work first time round.

But other than that .. would prefer a more simple UI.

    Nice review, thanks Darren!

Hey Gus, it's pretty relentless here some days haha. On that day I forgot to bring the memory card for my camera and was swearing at myself... But realised I could use my phone camera instead 😬 prefer the DSLR though as it produces sharper videos and better in low light. Take care mate.

I'm thinking of buying this light now. Should I go for it ? Please advise. Cheers! Bye! 😎

Yes do it, great quality, affordable and high CRI LEDs.

Did you know you can buy the optics in 4 packs with different degrees? I got a couple packs. Theyre for the s21d but they should fit this too i think. Looks like the same size.

Really? What's the different in beam profile between each? Better throw?

@@DarrenYeoYT The 10 degree is the best for throw!

Is there a pocket clip that fits on the S21F?

Might be one on Simon's store. You could try the one for the S21E. It has a thinner style ring.

I have this 🙂 The flashlight is really cool! But the user interface is terrible. Especially when you try to lock/unlock it. You have to press the button 10 times VERY QUICKLY, and if you accidently slow down while tapping then some other feature actives instead...like the strobe for example.

Reminds me a bit of the L8 interface, but I don't bother with the frantic clicking and just unscrew the tailcap 😂

@@DarrenYeoYT yes, that's what i do too. Veterans move, rather than clicking it multiple times.

The CRI is 97, thats high. I had the Sofirn IF25, the first color ramping light. 2700K-6500K. The lightquality was not good, CRI70 and for indoors CRI90 is better.
The UI is not perfect. Why not Anduril 2.0?
I have the new Wurkkos TS10, Anduril2.0, 4000K. CRI98. The best color if all my lights. This Convoy comes close.
But please, toss that UI and use Anduril

Hi Carmel, I think that new light, the S21E has Anduril. I'm not a huge fan of the UI but yes, it would be better in this light with less bugs.
