I'm drawn to the symbolic meaning Marikos white kimono. Is it a cherry or willow tree in winter with blossoms. From Death comes life?
I'm not sure but the fight scene costume either has imperial dragon design which only royals can wear or the fierce Foo dogs. I would have to see better images. Having said that I was way off for the last episode.
Whatever the case, what is for sure is this is not a chosen path for Toranada. His whole life he didn't agree with senseless bloodshed. Those that have died were going to die anyway but Toranada's plan gave them meaningful purpose and a beautiful noble Death to protect the clan.
He did not want the loneliest position of Shogun, but if he didn't his clan was certain to be put to senseless Death by rivals.
Just my humble opinion.

In episode 8 Blackthrone was looking for some charcoal. Charcoal is an ingredient in making gun powder. Blackthrone have been tasked to sail to Osaka and surrender guns and cannons to Ishido. I sense a big explosive episode 9. I can't wait.
Good point, that'd be pretty cool to see. I was hoping we'd see those canon in action at least 1 more time.
we can really see how Torinaga now trading his queen + 2 rooks in a chess game.
Remember that Lady Kiri and Toranaga’s younger pregnant wife/consort is still hostage in Osaka Castle. Mariko is more likely going to challenge the validity of why Ishido thinks he can keep all these hostages there. If done right.. this will be both poetic in visual as well as narrative

i have already accepted that there will be no battle in the 2 remaining episodes. if there is one, it would be a gift for me. i dont want to know what is in the book or in the old series, but i think it would be strange to have no major battle scene in this japan waring period series and its all drama. even if ep 10 is some how 80% battle, it is still very lacking in the whole picture. i think most people expect much more action than what we got, sure there would be some sword fight but what about a major siege on the castle?
i think the mix of action/drama is not balanced in this series, there has been a lot of build up since early on for "war" but this war seems to be thought mainly via politics than violence.
doesnt mean i hate this series, i have rewatched a few episodes a few times already.
Im starting to think we might not see the Battle too. Much as i want to see it im not expecting it now.
@@JeremyIceAndFire33 I heard that this was the story up until the night before the Battle of Sekigahara. I guess that's the original story. However, even as a Japanese person, I want to see the Battle of Sekigahara, the Osaka Winter Siege, the Osaka Summer Siege, and even Toranaga (Ieyasu)'s unification of Japan in both name and reality. All of them are quite dramatic, cruel, and fierce. It's a historical fact, not a drama. That's why I wanted the drama to go that far, but the original story doesn't have that level.
Actually, look again, she IS wearing the same outfit, she just has an extra "jacket" over the red outfit she is wearing in the courtyard
I did look & even zoomed in & sharpened the images, its definitely 2 different outfits. I'll show the stills tonight. One design has different details on it & the other looks like flowers & they're 2 different tones of red

I guess you never read the book. The series has stayed pretty close so far.
I have actually, & while the overall story is pretty similar. There's definitely alot of changes, which i actually like. A 1 to 1 adaptation is boring imo.
Some of the overall story points are similar, but the changes far outweigh the similarities. They’ve not only changed a ton of scenes but they’ve also cut out some very pivotal ones as well.
Everyone missed the point of the whole series including this interpretation 😢
