    Love this video. When my hair started to go curly and i was looking into how to care for it, all I kept hearing about was how I had to "train my scalp" to go for days w/o washing my hair. Washing your hair was a No-No if you had curly hair. I have fine, thick, high porosity hair. By day 2 or 3 my scalp was on fire and I was itching like I had fleas. I asked my dermatologist if there was something wrong and she told my that was a myth and I should wash my hair as often as I felt it needed it. She said it wasn't so much the hair itself but the scalp. Now I wash every other day and that works for me. But I hear so many people talking about how much of a failure they are b/c they can't go 7 or 10 days w/o washing their hair. This is a myth that needs to stop.

    agreed to all points.(I thought there was something wrong with me or my hair- ) with me).really appreciated the brief points on frizz.--answered my own question about what my hair needed,--,dry frizz needs moisture, soft frizz needs protein. My hair does well with sulfates ..It gets so limp if I don't use a few times a week like a little bit of frizz- thats the only way I look like I have alot or thicker hair !) . Do what works for your hair. My hair changed from fine and straight to fine and quite wavy at menopause..still somewhat new at this. You have helped me tremendously.

    I never knew until a month ago I had curly/wavy hair. The simple act of washing, brushing, and using a traditional blow dryer is enough to straighten out my hair. I saw a few videos saying I might not be actually curly, so I tried the styling methods on my middle daughter who’s hair is almost exactly like mine when it’s straight. She didn’t even get more than MAYBE one stretched S wave in her hair. Doing the exact same technique to mine makes it a mix of 2B-3A curls and waves!

    I would add one more myth - one can not comb or brush textured hair dry. Yes, you can - if your hair and scalp likes it. Will it ruin your curls? Of course, not, it might change your STYLE for the day, but it will not change your wave or curl pattern and might be, actually be, very beneficial, as if you brush out not so good stringy curls of a flop wash day, you might end with a polished look of brushed out curls of the stars from the 40 s and no need to put it up in a bun. And there is no better way to tame the frizz, then to comb the hair and then wet refresh it, just with water. No frizz and a good look. I also do comb and brush for the night, then sleep in a loose ponytail, this way I never have tangles, and if I have to wet my hair for refresh, why won’t I comb to organize it first???

    • @TheFitCurls
      @TheFitCurls  Před 3 lety +2

      YES absolutely!! It’s a personal choice and can be extremely helpful in certain situations for sure. It’s not gonna destroy anyone’s curl pattern! Thanks for sharing xxx

  • @randomperson6213

    My hair looks 2a when it’s wet. Only the very bottom layer below my ears is actually 2a. The majority is 2c, with some 2b and 3a pieces
    If I don’t diffuse the water weighs it down too much.
    When people ask if my hair is natural my mom says “yea but she uses product to make it curlier”
    NO I use product to make it more defined, which makes it appear curlier than when it’s a brushed out straight frizzy mess. No amount of product and denman brushing can make my hair curlier than it naturally is, unless I use heat.
    Why do I get annoyed by her comment, I have no idea

    Great video!! Would you say that low porosity hair should maybe limit silicones?

  • @MsLinoi
    @MsLinoi Před 3 lety

    Litterally everyone needs to here those! By the way I can brush out my waves (which are a 2b-c on washdays) on day 3 hair to achieve a 2a to almost straight look. That still doesn't mean that my hair isn't wavy, but the styling products and my wetbrush prevent my hair from getting super chaotic, which is what used to happen when I brushed my hair before I figured out I have wavy hair.

    I hate Curl Police 🚓
    *Most* people have some degree of textured hair. It's a dominant gene.
    Your hair can change throughout your life. I had pin straight hair as a child. Once I had kids, my hair changed drastically and I fought with it for years before discovering my curls and waves.

      same here, Michelle..I had straight, fine hair all my life until I hit menopause and estrogen replacement. Now it is fine wavy and curly. Yes, I kept straighting and fighting with it -not understanding why my hair didn't look like some others. Now I accept this is my hair- I will do what works for my hair.

    Great info! I find that even right after styling I have that “halo frizz” you’re talking about. I don’t think it’s breakage because I don’t do anything to cause breakage, might just be new growth. But it’s wiry and wild 🙄 any tips?

    • @TheFitCurls
      @TheFitCurls  Před 3 lety +1

      Great question! I find that brush styling greatly reduces frizz of that nature in the original styling process because it really smooths the clumps together. Aside from that, maybe try pulsing or scrunching more slowly to avoid any separation from the top layers. Good luck!

    • @emkn1479
      @emkn1479 Před 3 lety

      @@TheFitCurls Thanks for the reply. I’ve just been raking products through, as I find I don’t really love brush styling. Maybe I need to keep trying. I also don’t do too much scrunching most days and even still the wiry frizz remains. I’ll keep working on it, this process never ends 😅 Maybe a final, smoothing application at the crown would help... Great video!

  • @saggguy7
    @saggguy7 Před 3 lety

    The one about hair not being curly unless it’s curly when wet confuses me SO MUCH. Like, if you have say, 3c hair, when you get it wet it will look somewhere around a 2b/2c. The water makes EVERYONE’S hair look several steps looser. So..if you have say, 2b/2c hair, when it goes several steps looser, it’s going to look straight. I don’t understand how this is even a conversation we’re having lmfao. Maybe if we want to get really technical about curly vs. wavy and if your hair is straight when wet then it’s probably more wavy than curly, then maybe you have a point..but literally who cares? As you pointed out in the video, curl type isn’t really all that important anyway.

    1. Curly hair is coarser than straight hair
    2. Frizz is the enemy and must be tamed at all costs
    3. Sulfates and silicones are bad
    4. Curl typing is extremely important
    5. Hair isn’t curly if it looks straight when wet or brushed out
