I love the practicalness of it. I have been in the hobby for 62 of my 67 years. Being a senior citizen it is important to do things as cheaply as possible. I have been thinking about this project for a while. I already have some sponges thinking about doing this project and I had some unused PVC sitting around the house so I went upstairs and put one together. It is not complete yet. Tomorrow I will take it apart and drill a bunch of little holes in the PVC and then put it back together and it will be ready to go. Thanks for the great video.

Very nice. only thing I would do differently is make the holes larger for optimal water flow

I made 5 or 6 of those when I started setting up extra aquariums a yr ago. They work well to.

Think outside the box for us (for me) but i'm sure IT does relate to other fish lovers because in my case it would have to be a REALY cheap diy !!!!!!

wait so, the end of the tubing just sticks out of the water? or is there something specific you do there?

Hook it to an air pump, sponge filters are air driven

I made a homemade filter for my 500gallon pond out of a koi pellet container pvc and a ceramic tile sponge .it works awesome.the secret is to place the air at the bottom of the filter blowing up into the pvc tube.this causes bubbles thru the top and suction for the sides of the sponge.i put my sponge inside a tube also.

Would it help to fill the pvc with bio balls or aquarium carbon?

Easier to add more sponge. No need for carbon if your tank is planted.
