I enjoyed this series so much. I'm a quilter so it was very interesting to me. I started quilting in my early 20s. I'm 70 now. I've always enjoyed creating with my hands. Knit, chochet, making clothes, cross stitch. But I found my real love in quilting. When I was a little girl and I'd get worried or upset about something my grandmother would tell me get out of your head and into your hands. She would get me doing something and sure enough, I would forget what ever was bothering me. Thank you so much for sharing this book with us.

So true! I was taught to get busy when you’re upset and worrying about something. I usually go to my garden in the spring and summer and my sun room or quilt room to quilt in the winter. Busy hands are definitely therapeutic.
Loved this! I'm a quilter. So many stories came back to mind of the ladies I used to quilt with. They are all gone now. I learned so much from them, not just about quilting but about life. All of them were widows but were living their lives as best as they could. Quilting is about so much more than keeping warm.
I really like Edgar. He sounds like he knew he had a very smart wife. I so enjoyed this book. It got me motivated to restore an old family quilt. Thank you, Tipper for taking the time to read to us. I have cross stitched for 42 years. My mother in law taught and encouraged me saying it would teach me patience. I imagine quilting teaches the same lesson. 😊🪡🪡

Thank you. This has been an uplifting experience. My great grandmother's pastor related she told him she so loved the church because it was the one place she felt joy in life. I think some of these quilters must have felt the same way about quilting.

I've never met you, Tipper or your family. But I love you all. My grandfather came from Wilmington, NC and I know that's not the mountains but he had a nice accent and he was the only family I knew from out there. I like to think my family I never met would have been kind of like your family. It fills my heart to see your family just living life.
I especially love these stories about quilts. My grandma machine sewed and I've been hand sewing since I was a teenager. I am currently making my first quilt. It's for a friend's first baby. It's not perfect but it is full of love. Thank you.

How Mildred describes quilting is how I have been with crochet. My husband & kids would go off, I would do what I needed to do and then get stuck in. The tv was on in the background but I didn't watch it. I also knitted but prefer crochet.
Every reading of this book had even more beautiful quilts and interesting stories. There is just something about working on a quilt that takes you to another place away from all your troubles and all the stress and strife of the world. I also achieve that when I spin. You just get so wrapped up in what you’re doing that you’re oblivious to everything else….and I have two burnt up tea kettles to prove it.😂😂😂. TeresaSue

My mom used to cross stitch when I was little. One of our cats would sit on her lap and watch from the other side as the needle and thread went in and out. I think she used to embroider too, but that would have been before she got married. She used to be a seamstress, and she loves crochet. My grandparents have many items mom has made for them since she was a teen. There's a cross stitch family tree, other cross stitched things, and a couple crocheted blankets. Other family members have similar gifts from her.
I enjoyed this book a lot being a quilter myself. I prefer my quilts be used. Thank you for reading Tipper.

I want to thank you for reading "A People and Their Quilts". I've always done Arts and Crafts: Sewing, painting, embroidery, crochet, papercrafts, dollmaking, and many others. I've even made a couple of quilts. Nothing fancy, just crib quilts. I wish now that I had done more quilting. Unfortunately, as I've gotten older, I've developed hand tremors, which makes it nearly impossible to do anything with fine details, so I really appreciate this glimpse of the world of quilting. To see all the beautiful designs, and to hear the stories of the quilters has given me so much pleasure.

I see both sides of the debates on whether yo use old quilts or yo save them. I use all but 2 of mine. I’m saving those for my grandchildren. If they don’t want them…I’ll have to figure out a plan B. 😊
I helped my aunt piece and quilt a double wedding ring quilt for my cousins wedding present. It was a gift of pure love from the heart as this was her first neice. I xsometimes wonder if she still has that quilt??? I kept one my mother made for 25; years. It got lost during a divorce and move. I still miss that quilt. Every one in the house wanted it if they were sick and didnt frel good. It was the love quilt.

Thanks so much for sharing this book ❣️ It brought back many memories of watching my grandmother quilting at her quilting frame when I was a little girl growing up in Appalachia ( SW Virginia)!! She lived next door to us for most of my childhood!!! I was afraid to try to quilt because of the possibility of getting stuck by the needle, which was too close to getting a shot, which I hated!!! 😢 I wish I would have been braver and asked her to teach me to quilt! My mother also quilted and she taught me how to iron her pattern pieces!!! I really liked doing that!!! 😊 Years later she gave me a Flower Garden quilt that she had pieced the top and my aunt quilted for her!!! I have many wonderful memories of using that quilt, especially with my grandchildren!!😂 I did take a quilting class in 1994 and made a table runner!!!!😊 My only quilting project! So this book has been so enjoyable ❣️Love you and your family ❣️You are my favorite CZcamsr❣️✝️❣️
I'd mentioned how my late mother in law, Barbara, was a quilter. Aunt Gina was one of her friends from her quilting group. She has a quilt made by Barbara-- if I remember correctly, Barbara gifted it to her when she knew she was dying. Aunt Gina keeps the quilt packed away, she's afraid to use it. That's just the kind of person she is. Maybe I'll figure out how she can display the quilt while still keeping it protected-- like that lady in the book that kept some of hers in a pie safe.
Wonderful book! My aunt had the most beautiful crazy quilts that I loved but never knew anything about them except someone in the family, a long time ago, had made them. I love all quilts but the beautiful crazy quilts are my favorite. I can't wait to see what book you choose next Tipper! 📚❤

I like the quilt on the foot of Mildreds bed that was made in 1860 by the six sisters and given to their brother when he was fixin to get married. Hey Tipper, I was thinking it would be kinda cool to take a couple of your old quilts and give them to the two grandchildren for Christmas. I know that's probably the furthest thing from your mind. 🤪 I hope Granny had a good week and is settling in back home. Love y'all and God bless.

Gonna go back and check your series out. I have a picture from the 1800s of my ggg grandma sitting with the aunts, a large handmade quilt hangs behind them on a porch typical of the Ozarks in that time. They originally came from Appalachia (northern Alabama/se tennessee). You can sure tell that the quilt was special to my GGG Grandmother Lita :) I sure wish I could go back in time and ask Lita about that quilt!
