Yes and my husband and I really can tell that your squirrels are related to our squirrels in Virginia! I laughed especially at the owl. We have seen our squirrels sitting on the owl's head! too funny - I am going to try to cage some of my veggies though!

I had already come to the conclusion of spending an additional 3 years salary on what used to be a days wages on caging my garden area. But this video was worth the watch and very entertaining!!

After years of failing to keep squirrels eating my fruit in the garden, I posted on my Nextdoor community website that I hate squirrels. Immediately criticizing posts pouring in from animals lovers(I am an animal lovers too except for squirrels), one even asked me to leave the neighborhood, saying it's a hate free zone.
Yup. I know how you feel. Some people go a little overboard with that squirrel hugger stuff. You are free to hate squirrels here. I'll be releasing a new video next week with some new solutions I've been testing. Keep an eye out for it.

Absolutely the most entertaining and well presented CZcams presentation I've seen. Of course you really didn't get rid of the squirrels. For me it's not fruit or vegetables it's hostas. Something is eating my hostas. I haven't seen them but they eat only one hosta at a time . 15 potted hostas sitting together but only one disappears. They eat only the leaves and leave the stems behind. Like chicken bones on a plate. Adding to the puzzle They only eat the hostas at ground level. Hostas on benches and railings are safe. When I find a single potted hosta 1/2 eaten and I move it to the deck railing snd it recovers.
Is it squirrels? I don't have rabbits I don't have deer.
I do have squirrels, a few chipmunks a raccoon and a bear.
Your presentation was so entertaining that I'm saving it and when i feeling down because one more hosta is gone I'm going to watch it again and get a chuckle..
My husband is going to love this. He has a war with squirrels 🐿️ every year! He’s been using the witness protection relocation program. He usually traps at least 30 squirrels, a couple rats and an occasional possum each year. Do you have any gopher ideas?

he uses humor and a scene of roman legionnaires marching but as anyone knows, if you have this problem, this is exactly what it feels like. you're besieged by the pests. I've taken to shooting them as much as i can. i've taken 6 out so far, wounded another 4.. They still got what corn i grew

Just a word of caution to you and others wanting to use caged gardens for produce. Be careful of what type of metals you use as they can leach lead and other harmful things into your soil which your plant's roots will absorb and pass on to you.

There is a way to keep them off of that tree. Wrap a metal band, called a baffle, around the base. They can't use there claws to climb it. Pecan farmers use these to keep varmints off. The next thing is to make sure there are no limbs or objects the can use to jump on the limbs around 10 ft horizontal and 5 to 6 ft vertical. Thanks for the good story and ideas.
Glad you liked the story. Unfortunately, my peach tree is in a corner of my yard so there's a six foot tall cedar fence within 4 feet of the trunk and under the canopy. They usually jump from the fence to the tree. Happy squirrel-free gardening!

It seems feeding them peanuts just gives them a taste for the good life, and emboldens them to claim your garden.

I DO appreciate that squirrels bury walnuts that grow into walnut trees. I have to transplant them to other areas of my yard, but they get a good head start in my very fertile garden, thanks to my team of industrious squirrels... NOW, if they'd just stop eating the chicken food and terrorizing the chickens! - Got any solutions for keeping them away from chicken yards? Oh, never mind, I know - enclose everything in wire fencing. hahaha...

They hit my persimmon tree last year and left me one. I quickly wrapped it and its branch in many layers of netting so I could at least have one! This year as soon as they start to form I'll be wrapping them.

Awesome video! My better half just called me at work to tell me the squirrel army uprooted all the plants on our balcony (again). Like you, we've got the owl (he tends to blow over, even with rocks holding him down, and they quickly bypassed him). For a little while we tried plastic forks around the pots, and that kept them out for a bit, until they broke a few or just jumped in from the top of the rail. We also tried various hot spice solutions, to no effect. I'm really glad your solution wasn't the squirrelinator, you had me worried for a bit. I can just see the building administration asking why I have a bunch of squirrels in a cage as I'm going down the elevator.
We've watched the squirrels climb down an 18 story building near us, those brave brats go head first, with no apparent fear. It's insane they just climb right down the bricks with no problem. No wonder they don't have a problem terrorizing people's gardens.
My better half is not going to like cages around her plants/flowers, but it seems like it's probably the best way to keep them from being uprooted by these evil rodents!

Wonderful! I have a herd of 20-25 squirrels that go thru 25 lbs of peanuts in a month. Have to rethink this. Just began a veggie garden. You had me chortling. Beautifully done and the stock footage was perfect.

I try to feed the birds with sunflower seeds. Found that to be squirrel bait. They took all they wanted, made a mess everywhere, and then told their friends to come to the party. Only thing I have found is to trap them and rehome them to the local park. Easy to do, the trap was around $ 40 and worth every penny. Local game warden said that moving live, wild animals from your property was not legal. So I am as ninja as a hunting squirrel, and I take care of things quietly and efficiently. I have rehomed over 60 squirrels in two years. Yes, it's an undertaking, but worth it to get rid of these rats with fuzzy tails
They do tend to tell their friends don't they. That's a lot of squirrels to rehome. Wow! Happy squirrel-free gardening.
Do you have a system that identifirses theses individual soldiers, to make dure you’re not relocating the same ones over and over again? You must just take them miles away, huh? It’d be interesting to see if any were to figure out how to get back, or how far of a distance can they remember where a bountiful location is…
I've been told that squirrels can find their way back from up to 50 miles away. That's a long drive with a cage full of squirrels in the car all asking "Are we there yet?"
Haven't tried this myself but I read about a gardener using a solar powered radio with a talk radio station cranked up so the squirrels think people are back there. I notice when my neighbors are outside the squirrels disappear. As soon as the quiet returns then my pumpkin bulbs get eaten. I have fences too but some of my plants just can't be fenced in

Good video I was looking at those a while back. I'd have to leave them running all day and I would need several of them. I wonder about battery powered motion activated Halloween or Christmas decorations. Ones that light up and shake and make a lot of noise.

I was searching how to keep squirrels from eating my sunflowers and came upon your channel. It's delightful! I was cracking up with your humor. I love squirrels and keep them supplied with peanuts in the shell and corn, both from the feed store. We have a family of squirrels in our tree, only 3 or so, as sadly, one was accidentally run over. So, while I acknowledge that I'm actually attracting them by feeding them, I'm just trying to find a nice balance so we can enjoy our sunflowers and they enjoy a little, but a little to them is a lot to me :) Thanks again for a fun and informative video.

I don't know if you will see this, but I feel the need to share. I have my little oasis of a garden and my one beautiful peach tree. This tree was so very tiny when I moved in 7 summers ago. It was laying on the ground partially under a railroad tie. I felt very drawn to this little tree. It needed some serious care. So I moved the beam and stacked the tree. Everyday I would tend to it, talk to it. That first summer it grew nearly 18 inches. By the third summer it was 6 foot tall and loaded with blossoms that gave me 15 beautiful juicy sweet peaches. Here's where my battle begins with the fluffy tailed rodents. I knew they were around, every summer they would devour my neighbors strawberries. My strawberries live in a cage at the right of the peach tree. Those squirrels hate that cage. I hate those SQUIRRELS!! This year I have counted nearly 300 peaches all the size of marbles and I'm in a panic to make a barrier for my lovely tree. I refuse to let those squirrels get even one bite. I read that they don't like onion and garlic. So I'm doubling up with the barrier netting and a spray bottle of onion/garlic juice. Also adding pouches of coffee grounds. I'll let you know how my battle fairs.
I did indeed see your comment. Your peach tree predicament is very similar to mine. First couple years, when the tree was small, I got a nice little peach harvest. When it got bigger, and the squirrels discovered it, it was hard to get bird netting all over it and the squirrels ate EVERYTHING. I'll be putting a new video out in the next couple weeks in which I try some new things. Don't give up the fight.

Glad you liked my video. I stopped short of placing claymores around my garden...reluctantly. So far my cages have been working, although I have started to use several bungie cords to hold the bottom of the plastic mesh tight against the raised bed. Happy squirrel-free Gardening!

Love your video! It was hilarious, and true.
I, too, have squirrels. I also have rats, mice, rabbits, opossums, raccoons, Bob cats, and birds devouring my garden. I have tried everything including caging my garden and traps. The critters chew through my cages. Quite the crafty ones. It’s an ongoing battle. This year has been the worst. Anything that is edible has been eaten.

We also have large animals here as well. I’m in Southern California. We also have Coyotes, mountain lions, deer, and an occasional bear, and I am in a housing development.

I just found your channel, and I want to thank you for making me laugh so hard I cried. I, too, am a gardener and have a squirrel problem. Happily I catch a lot of squirrels and my friend the game warden comes and eliminates them...maybe I'm accruing bad karma but I have my garden protected. My dogs are too lazy to chase them. In a rage they are now eating my front steps to keep their vicious little teeth razor sharp. They are Viking mutants and I am the Supreme Leader of the Universe! Good Luck ~ I LOVE your videos!~!

My grandma was always at war with the squirrels when I was a kid and now I finally understand her lol she always had a fully loaded water gun ready to go at the sight of a menacing squirrel😂

Even after this amazing production, I am not ready to write off produce from my 16 heirloom apricot trees. Pretty sure some of them are using my fruit trees to catch themselves an attractive mate... Anyway, please keep up the effort and find the way to protect the fruit trees! I'm thinking to wall some of my trees with corrugated pic roof panels, arranged vertically. I hear squirrels can only jump 4-5 feet. Just need to keep that wall up for about six weeks a year..

So funny. I'm planting a garden in the back for the first time this year. There's a pomegranate tree back there and the squirrels eat them all every year but I really don't care about that. Now they are coming by the help themselves to the bird feeder. I don't mind that either, but I have bush beans in hanging baskets and I noticed that something has been attacking the bean plant in one of the baskets, and I realize there's a branch that reaches down almost to the top of the basket. I think they are just running down that branch and nibbling on the plant. I'll cut off that branch tonight. All is well right now because there are not yet any vegetables, but I may have to cage the plants too, because I actually really do like the squirrels and am willing to buy them peanuts or squirrel food, but I want my vegetables. I hope we can make a deal. Pomegranates and all they can eat of the bird and squirrel food in exchange for sparing the vegetables.

This was delightful. Thank you so much for your awesome video. I assume you tried some of the squirrel off spray products? That’s what I’m trying next because cages are not practical. They are eating my flowers and the bulbs down in the ground. I put cages all over my flowers. That’s kind of defeating the purpose but I’m so tired of them eating my plants after the money and time I’ve spent on them. Relocating them wouldn’t be an option because I’m in an old neighborhood and there are squirrels everywhere. And they’re not just my squirrels. Other people enjoy squirrels or maybe not but I don’t feel like that would be an option. And I would never poison an animal I even feel bad about Poisoning bugs and repellent if possible.
I’m going to try the squirrel off spray that they sell fingers crossed.

I fixed this by getting cat.
hilarious... I tried the owl too but, it got to the point where they would attack him and throw him out of the tree. I got tired of picking him up every morning after his fall . I tried putting screening on the ground around my tulip bulbs. it helped for a short time. It got to the point that they were eating all my persimmons long before they were ripe. One Spring those cute little critters ate off the tiny fruits inside the flowers. Absolutely no persimmons that year. I was about to have a nervous breakdown so I sat down and meditated. I even talked with God and asked; God. what should I do about the squirrels? I was told to feed them. Feed them ? !! I started filling the bird feeder with sunflower seed twice a day to make sure they had some. They left the early fruit alone until they were getting near ripe and them it was every man/woman for them selves. .

I have same problem with squirrels. Last year my peach trees were ready for harvest. When my husband and I went to see the tree. All peaches were gone. We blame squirrels for it. Thank you for sharing your video. I’m going to buy the squirrels catcher cage

I am in year 5 of squirrel war. Last year we were allowed to actually eat a few. Garden is too big to fence so I will use the peach tree as distraction bait. We'll see...
If your squirrels are like mine, they'll eat the peaches and the garden eventually. I'm actually trying out a few new ideas that I'll go over in a new video within the next couple weeks. Keep an eye out for it.

Hi I've enjoyed watching your video about squirrels.I had so many problems with squirrels damaging my gurder,my plants.I couldn't find any solution with these creatures.One day ,I came close to something that can repel them.That was coyote urine.That would cost an arm and a leg.I dicided to use my own urine where I saw the squirrels.Ever since I haven't any problem with them because I haven't seen them at all.
The only thing,when it rains you must replenish .My yard doesn't have any bad odor.

This was so wonderful to watch!!! You deserve your own show! I found I had to do the same thing and cage what I wanted to keep and reinforce planters with chicken wire and top off with pebbles. So far, so good.

You could cover your peach tree with netting or greenhouse plastic
I tried bird netting. But the peach tree is so big I had to use 2 or 3 nets. The squirrels always found a little seam and got it. Happy squirrel-free gardening!
This made my day. Very entertaining! unfortunately my garden is not on concrete so they dig under the beds and pop up in middle inside netting! I too have a dog and a husband with a gun but we live on edge of forest and they just keep coming. Red squirrels are the worst for me.

I did it! My next door neighbor feeds the squirrels walnuts. They would dig up our backyard lawn and our potted plants to bury the nuts. One day I watched a squirrel run around the yard sniffing the dirt to find his nut. I said to myself, "They must have incredibly sensitive noses". Then it came to me. If their noses are that sensitive, a strong smell may interfere with them finding their nuts. I decided to cu t up an onion and scatter it around my yard. OMG!!! They HATED it and now they HATE my yard. I put some on the roof of my pergola where they used to jump onto from a big tree then hop onto my roof. Not anymore. It actually is a little creepy now because my yard is totally devoid of squirrels and it is so peaceful now. Once a week is all it takes. I probably could go every two weeks, but I'm not taking any chances.

Great video. Just saw this today. So true. I have had success dwindling my squirrel population. It's a modern pellet gun with thermal night vision. Deadly accurate to 60 yards with holding dead on, day or night. I shoot every one I see around the house if I have a safe shot. Population is seriously down now. With thermal vision, you can see them in the trees even though they think they are camouflaged. Couple with a basin filled with water for the cage Squirrelenator that you have after you have caught a bunch. They work too, and water is the solution to those cages filled with varmints. No relocation of these varmints to create a problem for someone else. They have to go. I feel no pity for them any more. Now I have to solve the chipmunk problem wiping out my strawberries.
I'm thinking the squirrel crop cages with some hardware cloth, amzn.to/3JLiyRp, underneath might do the trick for the chipmonks. Thermal imaging must be nice. Happy squirrel-free gardening!

Dear Diary, once again, I'm looking to YT, to try and find the solution to the "cute squirrel" population, and my garden. Last year, out of 20 tomatoes plants I got TWO tomatoes... I even went so far as to wrap a couple up and yep...they figured it out, and GOT them as well. Yesterday and today..they are taking to sitting in the raised beds and peering into my window.. I know what they are wanting...HEY, Comerrrr..when you gonna plant? 🤨😑 I sat, looking out this same window in the fall..and watched a couple pluck my garlic bulbs up and eat every single one of them....How do you cage oval beds? 😏😏😑😑😆😆
Yup. I hate it when they sit there are glare at you, usually while eating something you've grown. You might try Gardener's Supply at Gardeners.com.They have a good selection of crop cages in various shapes and sizes. Happy squirrel-free gardening!
I don't believe you. First, they don't like garlic. Second, they eat tomatoes, but scarcely, as I guess it's not dense enough for them. Mice eat more tomatoes from our garden than squirrels do. I always get lots of tomatoes left even with the mice and squirrel attacks. Zucchini and squash is another story, the squirrels pluck the baby fruits and even their flowers; only the baby fruits and flowers that mange hide in the weeds or thistle survive.

This was brilliant! 🤣😂Two more to add to the list of things that don't work: (1) tulle (this one's all over CZcams) and (2) a rubber snake (this one from a Master Gardener). Today the little oiks waltzed past the snake, bit a perfect hole in the tulle, absconded with the last of my tomatoes, and exited through the tulle past the snake again. I finally decided a cage is the only way to go and you've confirmed it for me.

I recommend bird netting on your peach tree once the flowers are done. Squirrels hate the feel of bird netting on thier feet.
The Squirrels at my garden spent hours looking for an opening into it when I put it on my vegetables and they only had limited success breaking in.
I told them not to even attempt to get into my garden and they said, "challenge accepted!". Crazy Squirrels!

I gave up my small vegetable garden and now I've seen them gnawing on my 2 year old $6,000 composite backyard deck, they never touched my old, dried & splitting wood deck but this new one they've gnawed the riser face Board & now several of the stairs & outside corners of the deck!! True story....those damned tree rats!!

I liked your video. I'm glad you found a solution. Unfortunately, I have an ornamental garden and they cause so much destruction from digging, chewing, planting, etc, to destroying the wiring in our vehicles. Now, they will stand and stare at me from a minimum of 5 feet away. My 7lb pomchi is no competition for them. They will run up a tree and lay there staring at her. I really can't stand them.

LOVE this video and it's almost like you were talking about some of the squirrels I have to deal with. I finally learned to wrap my veggies, etc with the fabric Tulle. It's cheap and found in the fabric areas of many stores and online. It's also safe since birds don't get tangled up in it like they do with bird netting.

Loved your presentation. The humor took some of the pain out of losing everything from bulbs, to flowers, veg, you name it this summer. I'm going to have to make my protection screens out of a much tinier screen material because the chipmunks were able to undermine all my attempts at protection .

Glad you liked the video. I used TENAX brand Multi-Purpose Net 4' wide. Got mine at Lowe's. It's more substantial than bird netting, but easier to work with than chicken wire. Used little zip ties to hold it in place on the PVC pipe. Happy Gardening!

So far mine have worked completely. It takes a bit of time to measure, cut, piece together, and zip tie everything together but NO squirrel thefts. I hit mine with some spray paint before putting the net on. Purely for looks. Happy Gardening!

I think squirrels ate my lilly bulbs and are hiding nuts in my garden that I haven't done anything with yet. Could also be rabbits eating things. I'll take any advice on keeping them out of my little garden bed that's next to my doors.

We use a solar hot wire! IT WORKS! Garden size is 60×80 yes for nasty squeals. We also trap them like clock work and relocation the Forrest rats!.

I'm just starting a new fruit garden with grapes and fruit trees and a squirrel just discovered our other "mouse/rat-proofed" garden. It took an entire season for it to find it, or someone moving into the neighborhood had a stowaway that moved in with them. Darned critter ate a nice hole in the zuccini and pumpkins and a few of the beans that were almost ready to pick. What works for mice and rats does not work for squirrels.

Haha, so true. And let me tell you, we got the squirrelanator, baited with pecans and caught 3 at the same time. Your idea on the result was correct. They were highly agitated, scrambling around inside until i wrangled the contraption into a large garbage bag. My husband took them in the back of his truck further back in the woods and struggled to open the trap door since it was so close to the careening critters, but managed to get them all out, but was so traumatized, and me too, said never again. We do not garden because of this, as well as racoons coming in. Squirrels and racoon chew into our attic. We've cut back the nearest trees and put up spikes that we found online on our porch rails and posts. That has helped but saw a squirrel doing a victory dance on my roof, then noticed them climbing over on the power line. I've called the power company about getting a baffle on the line to stop this but all they do is tell me they'll get back to me. 😢 I've started putting out baking soda mixed with cornbread mix, but i feel it is futile. We are in their environment, always more where those came from.
Sounds like your squirrels are worse than mine. Sorry to hear of your squirrel problems. My crop cages have been working well for several years so far. You could always try a single raised bed with a cage over it. Happy squirrel-free gardening!

I was using a slingshot with 3/8 clay rounds and it seems like the more direct hits you get the more appear in your garden… so I went to order 3/8 steel but they were sold out so I got some 7/16 steel but they could see those coming and dodge plus they learned my new max range… so gonna get some 5/16 rounds and drop my bands thickness to .5mm and cut the bands shorter and see how that goes.
Improvise, adapt, and overcome. The Marines and the squirrels agree on that one. Good luck in your fight. The little buggers learn fast.

When you use the net to keep the squirrels out of the vegetables how do you make it so that you can get in yourself and take the ripe plants out
I use a Solar powered Poultry fence. It seems to be The Only Thing that keeps the out of my garden and it works Great!! I do have a backup charger for times when it's cloudy and rains for days.
I've heard those work well. Unfortunately, my garden is too large with too many points of entry for squirrels. Trees, gazebo, green house, trellis, arbor. Thanks for sharing. Happy squirrel-free gardening!

I just lift the 4'x4' cage off the bed and set it aside. Kind of a pain, but has done the job for over a year now. Happy squirrel-free gardening!
I put thorned branch from my lemon on the fence where the squirrel climbs and around my blackberries and I was able to enjoy my harvest this year. I use forks and a inverted scissors on my flower beds and spray throw some turmeric leaves on the ground. The possum and raccoons Never came back to destroy my beds.
That's great you found something that works. I've got blackberries planted around a pear tree that HAD kept the squirrels out for several years. Last year, with old canes dying out and being removed, the squirrels found a way up into the tree and got all the pears. I recently bought some small stainless steel mesh bags you zip tie around each fruit. We'll see how they work this season. Happy squirrel-free gardening!

Great video. I paid to have them taken away and released out in the woods. I have even more this year. I have a Bull Mastiff. I opted not to have 170 lbs. bounding through my gardens.

The squiinator is the best thing I've found for squirrels. You have to release them at least two miles away or they'll return. I bait it sith peanuts.

@@TheHowDoGardener Ive caught them two at a time on occasion. Can't figure out how an animal that dumb can keep outsmarting humans.
I think their ravenous desire to eat everything in our gardens gets the better of them.

I'm noticing squirrels in my peach tree too. A few times I saw one jump from another tree onto my peach tree right in front of me. My tree is too tall tto put a cage around. I hope these guys don't eat them all. I wonder if cats will keep them away. There are a few that come into my yard. Bobcat urine might work too.
I have your solution! I've been testing something I came up with for the past month. For the first time in 12 years, I harvested peaches from our tree the other day! A lot of them. Here you go...

I live in the high desert and my disaster is ground squirrels. They very diffirent from the fox squirrels I grew up with in the midwest. I have no garden but a small orchard. While watching this I was mentally constructing the fence to keep them from the trees. I am glad I stopped, you see they are GROUND squirrels, I would need to pour a 20 inch deep concrete footer to have a chance.
