@@rabfallon4507 I have found that many live DC5 videos were later removed. I can't help but think Clark found out and complained. Perhaps he hasn't seen this video yet or maybe he doesn't have any rights to Top of the Pops.
My hearing ain't what it used to be but it sounds like Mike Smith may have had a live microphone for his lead vocal, along with another for Madeline Bell at the end of the song. Would love to see the color clip mentioned by Nic Adair.
Obviously the instruments are not live- if anybody is in doubt, listen to the bass line and watch the bass guitar! Completely live performances are very hard to find on CZcams, although those who have seen the DC5 live say that they were excellent.
I read that Dave Clark and Peter Davison (who played the Doctor on Doctor Who) met and became friends and he's somewhere in the crowd. Also, the ending was cut short.
Original broadcast was 26th February 1970...
I first saw this in Jan 1984
R.I.P. SMS Channel
This performance is not wiped, it is blocked from being broadcast by Dave Clarke. It exists in colour in Germany.
Obviously it isn't wiped. You just watched it

@@bjbell52most likely since TOTP is owned by bbc
Madeline's vocal really made this track. It's a shame that the cameraman didn't switch to her the moment that she came in with her incredible vocal.
Mike Smith # 1
Nice video!
I think I’ve seen Denis with a guitar only
twice before..in the 19 Days video and
Everybody Knows(You Said Goodbye)

Yes - singing live OVER the recorded vocal!
Makes it sound double-tracked.
Although they usually lip synced, Mike & Lenny (and sometimes Dave) had live mics for vocals.
