I've always wondered how my Cantonese (as an overseas Chinese girl) compares with that of a native Hong Konger. That's why I enlisted my friend Kahei of Poetic Cantonese to give me a vocab test based on HSK levels.

Hello Brittany, I love your Cantonese speaking programs!
I'm a Hongkongese and can use Cantonese to write poems.
Your Cantonese is 95% perfect and sounds like singing👍! No body on earth can speak 100% Cantonese because it's such a beautiful; flexible and relaxing language☀️! There are many ways to express yourself in Cantonese and Cantonese people can still understand you. Just feel free to say it out, no real Cantonese speakers will laugh at you😊.
Tell your mom she's out; there's no such thing as lazy sound anymore in Cantonese! Yes, Cantonese is changing for better every day.
The word "你" pronounces using either "n" or "l" is 100% alright. "Lazy sound" is only a style of Cantonese speaking and it shows your personality🥳🎉🎶!
Cantonese is one of the most beautiful language on earth; it sounds like singing🎶! If you could use Cantonese to read ancient Chinese poems or literature and you would know what I meant.
    Happy Cantonese👍👍👍

Good to show that Canto isn't all slang. It can be formal and poetic too. Good idea to level up according to HSK grades. It is a reminder how Canto embodies the full modern standard Chinese vocab. It's tonality also gives it an expressive quality when reading poetic, especially Song/Tang era Classical Chinese, which Cantonese (while still shifted) is the only modern Chinese variety that has a 1 to 1 mapping of the Middle Chinese tones. If learners get stuck on colloquial Cantonese, I feel this is only scratching the surface :)

LoL, as someone who grown up in Germany, my father used to watch Hongkong movies until 1986. After he passed away in the same year, I didn't got anything related to Cantonese. My Mom is Vietnamese. Now having Kids (Mixraces) my own, and German is my main language, I am trying to keep German with them. I remember my father want to send me to a Chinese some in Swiss, close to the German border. But didn't want it, what I am very regret retrospective.

    • @callistoscali4344

      Discover is 發現.

Just from a simple Baidu search as an example:
      牛顿是怎样发明万有引力的
      牛顿怎样发明了地心引力
      牛顿的地球万有引力定律是怎么发明的
      牛顿万有引力是在什么时候发明的
I would totally translate all of these as: "How did Newton discover gravity?", as "invented" would sound like 創造 rather than 發現.

    • @callistoscali4344
      @callistoscali4344 Před rokem +1

@@deanlittle9705 I think some of them are not used correctly. Also, if you say Newton invented the theory of gravity, that would be correct. There is a difference between discover and invented.
