Dude THANK YOU SO MUCH for that video, now I know A) DO NOT drop the screw; B) Put the rubber before you align and insert the handle. Very nice video saving me a lot of time and time is the most valuable asset of today.

I just refitted all my door trims on one of my M sport pack E 46`s after removing them for a better window tint job, Then I realised I should have removed my door handles for paint while they were off. Imagine how pleased I was to see this video. THANK YOU.. ps I did have a bit of a chuckle when I realised you didn`t fit the rubber seal first.. I call this the happy video..lol. cheers from Australia.

Thanks for the video as it was very helpful for me to remove the handles during a body restoration project on my 2005 ZHP sedan. There are two things that I discovered that would have been very helpful, but found this out by trial and error, and my natural instincts.
    1. The access cover plugs on the front doors are a two piece plastic design where the inner part of the oval locks the outer part on the plug to the door. When you remove it, pry from the inner piece and not the outside edge as one might expect. It is not obvious, but they are two pieces.
    2. I was puzzled by the reverse thread (why?). Quite by accident this I found this done by BMW by intent. You *are* intended to turn counter-clockwise to set the screw further in against the inner nut. The handle is held by and interference fit and not by clamping the screw on the handle. Turning the screw in deeper (counter-clockwise), removes the interference and releases the handle. Then you pull back the Torx driver and the handle pops off. The screw *NEVER* needs to be removed, and therefore is never at risk of falling into the door. Restoring the door handle, you turn clockwise a few rotations, thus moving the screw outward into the hole and restoring the interference fit.
They reversed the thread so you don't have to reverse your natural instinct. Simply brilliant thinking by BMW I would say...

The sedan setup is different from the coupe (shown in video) but when I did mine I found exactly the things you pointed out. Did you remove the entire door handle assembly with the windows still installed? Rolled up all the way?

wrapping a little bit of Scotch tape around that torx screwdriver and the torx screw will prevent screw drops.
