Unfortunately, the DB Super artist apparently doesn't like Krillin. He did a lot in DBZ and has been around since DB. They hyped him up with Roshi's training, facing his fears, powering up, and sparring Gohan/Goku. Then they just dropped it. They didn't know what to do with him.

Back in DBZ, Cell had spit out 18 but blew his self up after which killed 17 as well . After they killed Cell, they went and used the Dragon Balls to bring back everyone Cell killed which involved 17 and we dont see 17 again until close to the end of the Buu arc . Also Krillin tried to wish 18 and 17 back into humans, but Shenron couldnt do that because it was beyond his power to do so . So Krillin wished for their bombs in their chests to be removed instead .
The reason goku went super Saiyan blue against krillin is because of the ki control he has while in that form. He can control if he puts 2% of his full power or 80% of his full power instantly
I mean it was also a test of Krillin's resolve. It's his biggest shortcoming as he has low confidence ever since his bullying from Dragon Ball. So when he does well... he gets pretty happy... though maybe too much.

One of the fillers between Goku vs Hit was a Krillin episode where he and Goku both went to train with Roshi again, but Roshi put them up for a test to train their minds, which was honestly a good Krillin episode. its also the episode he shaved his hair again after he grew it back after Ressurection F and started training again. It was honestly a filler episode that was genuinely good
I really wish they did more with that. Between that episode and this one. They just dropped it like they didn't know what to do with Krillin.

As someone who has watched the OG Dragon ball, DBZ, and DBS ten times Vegeta has much respect for Gohan as a Saiyan warrior ever since he was a kid he knew Gohan had the potential to become one of the strongest Saiyans or THE strongest. Especially after the Cell Saga he knew Gohan was HIM cause he was officially the strongest on the planet and the universe at the time which is why he was so disappointed in him in the Buu Saga cause he was so much stronger when he was younger he did less training and focused on school more.

17 and 18 are Cyborgs, not Androids nor robots, that's a mistake from the English translation because the Japanese do not really have a different word for Cyborg and Android, but 17 and 18 are born human and have been augmented with technology, and Krillin wished that they get their autodestruction bombs removed. 16 was an android though, he was completely built from scraps.

the thing is you heavily underestimate Kirlin, he may not be as strong powerwise compared to the saiyens, but he is considered the strongest mortal human, if he needs to he could beat definitely beat Gohan, and even either Goku or Vegeta in base form (all of them in base) as long as the match has rules, just like the tournament of power. He is a very craft fighter. I am not surprised he was in the team because adding 18 with him, they make the second strongest team duo for universe 7.
I wouldn’t go that far he ain’t doing shit to goku, gohan or vegeta even in base, I do however agree with your idea of him being a crafty and quick witted fighter who fights with strategy and technique but even den saiyans or half saiyans they are still considered aliens so the gap is just too far but he styl solos naruto and one piece verses lol with ease no debate
Krillin might not be the strongest, but he’s a hell of a fighter. Watching his techniques and strategy against Goku here was beautiful.

Android 17 was resurrected from the wish that restored all of the dead from Cell.
He woke up, and got off the ground near where Cell self destructed. He didn't instantly "become good" or anything, he just didn't see the Z Fighters as friendly to him, as he had recently been fighting them with the express purpose of killing them.
So, he booked it, and avoided them because he realized that he was badly outmatched and kinda just fell into the job of protecting animals where he became a better person, yet still was uneasy about his status with the Z Fighters.
Android 18 was wary of them too, but she thought Krillin was cute, so ended up joining them.
Plus, 17 is an android.
None of the fighters can sense his ki, so as long as 17 doesn't go looking for them or cause a ruckus, he can stay hidden.
In Goku's mind, there's no hard feelings because 17 reformed, even though 17 may not be particularly friendly to the Z Fighters.
In all fairness, I can't remember if OUR 17 and 18 actually killed anyone other than Gero on purpose before Cell absorbed them, just some general mayhem and robbery.
