Billie was a songstress from the 30's-40's. She really had a troubled life. So sad😔

An unmatchable talent and style is the best way to describe this Beautiful talented legend of a singer. Could you do a reaction to " I gotta right to sing the blues" or "Solitude" by Billie Holiday please?

Billie Holiday was an American jazz and swing music singer. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and music partner, Lester Young, Holiday had an innovative influence on jazz music and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Wikipedia
Born: April 7, 1915, Philadelphia, PA
Died: July 17, 1959, NYC Health + Hospitals/Metropolitan., New York, NY...... Billie Holiday was one of the greatest jazz singers from the 1930s to the '50s. She had no formal musical training, but, with an instinctive sense of musical structure and a deep knowledge of jazz and blues, she developed a singing style that was deeply moving and individual. SHE WAS GREAT THEN, STILL GREAT TODAY!!!!

Try the 40's, so this is around 80 years old. Her version of Strange Fruit - still the greatest- will break your heart.

Pioneer and legend of jazz. You would probably enjoy a movie about her life, "Lady Sings the Blues" starring Diana Ross (Supremes and Motown) and comedian Richard Pryor. She lived in one of the worse times for a woman, black woman, black singer. She is a treasure. "Strange Fruit" about lynchings is a must hear for any student of music. 🙏😍

🎶🎙🎶 This is so nostalgic... Billie and 40s jazz are otherworldly. I danced to Billie with my daughter just after she was born. Billie's rendition of "The Very Thought Of You" is one of the sweetest pieces of music I've ever heard. P.L.U.R.R. from ATX!

There was The Beatles and Pop Music.....and then everybody else.
There was Billie Holiday and The Blues.....and then everybody else.
The CZcams video Billie Holiday: "Fine and Mellow"(1957) featured, probably, the greatest jazz musicians ever assembled together at one time, and you could sense that each of those musicians felt it was an honor and privilege to play along side Billie's singing.
Even if you don't react to that video JAYY, then give it a listen to, in your free time.

Billie Holiday infused her singing with all the emotions and wisdom she earned from the hard life she led. She began singing in nightclubs at 15 and made her first recording at 18 with Benny Goodman. She made her film debut at 19, performing the song "Saddest Tale" with Duke Ellington. That was in 1933. Her recording of "Strange Fruit" in 1939 drew the ire of a particularly racist law enforcement official who told her to stop singing the song and when she refused he framed her and sent her to prison for ten years. She was released after serving less than a year and remained popular even as she struggled to find work. When you're ready for more from her, check out "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "Stars Fell on Alabama", "What a Little Moonlight Can Do", "All of Me" -- for happier tunes -- and "God Bless the Child", "Lady Sings the Blues", and "Stormy Weather" for sadder songs.

This may have happened in a movie, but not real life. She went to prison in 1947 on narcotics charges. I’ve see no evidence to suggest that it was in retaliation for singing Strange Fruit. No law enforcement official ever asked or ordered her to stop singing the song. Screenwriters often distort the truth to create a dramatic story, which is their job, but you should never take it as absolute truth.

That was me, sitting in 6:32 my room listening to Billie Holiday records in the middle ‘70s while my classmates we’re listening to REO Speedwagon and such. I love her so much. She and Ella Fitzgerald seem like the opposite side of the same coin.
