Yeah, that was probably a pen but earlier there was an elbowing from a scottish player and the first goal against Germany was also debatable... during a longer period of time, these cases equal out.

Not that it would have changed much, just the joy of not letting your opponent get 3 points, and not be the butt of the joke.

Zealand, as a fellow American I’ve tried my best to get my family involved in the Euros. As one does, I have tried my best to compare him to an American coach. Southgate is the Les Miles of national teams. As an LSU fan, I can tell you that Miles was an outstanding recruiter and a terrible offensive coach who tried to run a 1972 offense in 2015. His teams were constantly full of 5star recruits and nfl players, but yet somehow ran the ball up the middle on every first and second down when you have multiple pro bowl wide receivers on the field. 50% of the fan base trashed him as we went 10-2 every season, but other fans would only point to his record and not to what actually took place on the field. Eventually his ego grew and he flamed out. I think this would be a fascinating zealandism comparing these 2 figures and their rise and “fall”.
This may be long winded but as a fellow international fan, I think I understand the pain of English fans even thought they continue to win and ultimately fall short.

As a Scottish human, it was pretty shit, the qualifiers however we were playing incredibly well (for Scotland) which got us excited and then this is a massive kick in the balls but also a reality check.
I think we have now only won 1 game in the last 13. Everyone who uses the excuse of 'small country' should look at Slovenia, Albania, even Hungary and Switzerland. Our goals were from massive opposition mistakes, the goal against Switzerland was a big deflection other wise an easy save and the goal against Germany wasn't even scored by us. I honestly think we played best in the second half against Germany, when being a man down.
Still with all this, proud of them for getting there and loved seeing the German's love of us (whether because of a certain result or no Scotland, no party)

First off, Lyndon Dykes was far from the only injury in an already light pool pf talent. Hickey, starts for brentford in the prem. His back up, Patterson also out. Lewis Ferguson, in the serie A team of the year, ruled out. Ben Doak, 19 year old whos knocking on the door at Liverpool, attacking talent, was in the squad but suffered an injury. And of course Dykes missed out. So we lost a few.
We arent blessed with a plethora of talent, i agree with that. But we have some talent, Tierney top player, Robertson has won the CL, Mcginn captains Villa, Gilmour plays regular for Brighton, Mctominay also plays plenty for Man Utd and had a good season. Now i dont expect youve followed the Scottish National team for the last 20 years, so believe me when I tell you this is the best squad we have had since the 90s by a mile.
Steve Clarke is renowned for a pragmatic approach, his Kilmarnock team were hard to beat first and foremost, and his lack of attacking nous costs us. His comments afterwards were an embarrassment.
I think we have a bit of a mentality problem personally. But we deserved to be at that tournament. Gave Spain their dinner at Hampden, ditto the Norwegians in Norway. We had a good campaign and were there on merit.
    Shame we shit the bed.

So the 90's tended to have a song with every tournament campaign; 1998 both England and Scotland made the World Cup in France.
England officially had "On Top of the World" by England United (Spice Girls, Space, Echo & the Bunnymen, Ocean Colour Scene) which has been widely forgotten, and unofficially had "Vindaloo" by Fat Les and "Three Lions '98" by Baddiel & Skinner with the Lightning Seeds; a re-do of the original which had been the official team song for Euro 96 (When we hosted, hence originally "it's coming home").
Scotland? "Don't Come Home Too Soon" by Del Amitri.
As an aside, would probably have objected pre-match to an Argentinian ref on impartiality grounds given the history around the Falklands. But if he's the ref, you'll have to work with him. And indeed, that includes talking, communicating, etc.

Are you saying that with the benefit of VAR the ref team missed a call; and with the benefit of VAR, ignored a penalty shout at the other end to make up for that missed call? Maybe Steve Clarke is right and the ref should go back to Argentina

@@jessinomicon it's the flow.of.the game the ref can't send the keeper off cause that doesn't happen, it should of been a pen.thefe.the keeper pushed someone.in the face, so it's a law of balance

I am Scottish we out of tournament no real surprises there;but after the Hungarian player Varga was knocked unconscious he was all i was thinking about. Glad to see he seems ok. If Hungary make it to the next round they will be the team i get behind. I think going forward Scotland need to give players like shankland, doak, barron and more young players a start. We are in European nations league A group. So no better way to test new talent for Scotland.

Got to also LOL at the USA men's cricket team in their performance against England in the T20 World Cup ... their final four wickets conceded in five balls (zero runs scored) to be absolutely demolished!!!
    USA: 115-7, 115-8, 115-9, 115-10 All-Out!!!
England: 116/0, win by 10 wickets!!!
I wonder if Zealand will cover that with a video!?

It should not be a penalty as Armstrong is running into Orban rather than the other way around, the scotsman plays the ball one way and steps into Orban's line. Sadly these gets given as pens a lot and they shouldn't be given at all as the attacking player's only wish here is to be fouled and getting into Orban's line of run makes the contact unavoidable. Not only that, they will then also claim it should be a red card for the defender. Which can never be the case as the attacker has absolutely no intention of trying to finish off the attack, he just wants to be fouled. Great call by the ref.
And yes, Scotland were by far the worst team in this tournament.

The issue with the VAR in that situation is that tackles like that are judged by the referee to be fair or a foul. The VAR can't step in if the ref decides it's not a foul - he has to decide himself to look at it on the screen.
