      Me too! I don't seem to remember that one, but then again I was 13 years old at the time and had started to "outgrow" these types of shows (although now as an adult I enjoy watching them again). I even remember that CBS was my "go-to" network for Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid; mostly because they carried Looney Tunes (as the Bugs Bunny Road Runner Show) back then.

    It may interest some Star Wars fans to know that when Max Rebo was first designed, he had no arms. What looked like his arms in the movie are actually his legs, and his big elephantine "ears" were just a pair of flippers. In the movie, he sits on top of his organ-like instrument on a cushion, playing the keys with his feet. That didn't translate very well to the screen, because the costume had to be redesigned so that the performer could fit into it without too much discomfort. When Kenner made the Max Rebo action figure, they mistook his legs for arms and gave him a pair of stumpy legs, and that dictated his species' look for all Star Wars media that came later.

    • @80sCommercialVault
      @80sCommercialVault  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I think the "legs as arms" design was just in the initial design maquette, which does not reflect his final movie design. The costume in the movie matches the action figure, and his arms are indeed arms attached to his torso.
      Concept Maquette: www.regalrobot.com/shop/star-wars/starwars-busts-statues-collectibles/max-rebo-concept-maquette-replica/
      Final Costume: i.imgur.com/6HNV8UE.jpg
      If the arms were intended to be legs that *really* didn't translate to the final costume, and Lucasfilm didn't know it either since they approved the final toy. Not to say that Kenner never made mistakes with the Star Wars license (4-LOM and Zuckuss having their names swapped in the ESB line, Blue Snaggletooth etc).

    • @gspendlove
      @gspendlove Před 10 měsíci +1

      @@80sCommercialVault Star Wars canon is all over the place about whether Ortolans (Rebo's species) have arms _and_ legs, or only legs with opposable digits, so there's just no broad consensus about this issue. But as Max Rebo was _originally designed,_ he does not have arms, and I think that's an interesting, off-the-wall concept.

    I think the segue bits inbetween the shows an adverts are pretty damn cool...I remember when those sort of '3d' presumably early computer graphics used to be everywhere...I still think they look prety funky even today. Thw whole cherry tree thing seemed a bit random but then thats another thing you used to get...these little random micro bits of info of a not on the surface interesting thing that then proved to be intertesting...I think cebeebies as a channel still does stuff like that...

    I had the Sy Snootles and Rebo Band figures, I remember. My favorite was Max Rebo with his keyboards. Star Wars action figures that didn't come with weapons...a rarity.

    I believe applesomething is right. At 4:28 the kid's gotta be Jaleel White(Steve Urkel). Gotta day tho, the juicy fruit commercial really takes me back. Still know the words like yesterday.
