The New Horizons mission has been a real space mission challenge - one of the toughest in human history. The probe reached Pluto and captured a view of the rock on the outskirts of our solar system that no one has ever seen before at such a close distance. Or maybe, we're not the first to see it… Because what New Horizons found has scientists questioning: Is Pluto just a frigid, lifeless rock, or could there be more to this dwarf planet?
8 years later, the data collected during the flyby is still being studied by the mission team, providing new exciting discoveries, and changing the way we look at the solar system.
Is there really a hidden ocean of liquid water beneath Pluto's surface? What caused icy dunes across the planet’s terrain?
Learn about these fascinating things, about how the dwarf planet swaps material with its largest space neighbor, and more as we take you on a journey to Pluto, and see it like it's never been seen before.

I honestly think it's likely that many of the objects in the outer part of the solar system have the right ingredients for life (Pluto, Europa, etc) and that if those objects were suddenly closer to the sun, that life would eventually form there. That's assuming, of course, that life hasn't already found a way despite being so far out and frigid.

If the New Horizon Spacecraft had taken the 14-year route to Pluto instead of the blistering fast 9-year route it could have entered orbit and would be on its 5th year right now studying every inch of the planet. What a wasted opportunity just because a few very old scientists at NASA feared they would not live long enough to see the 14-year mission reach Pluto and opted for a handful of pics in 9.

I'm a fool in this field, so can anyone explain to me, if the planets move around the sun, how is it possible for an artificial satellite moving in a straight line to photograph all the planets in its path? Isn't it true that the farther a planet is from the sun, the longer its orbit and the less likely it is to meet an artificial satellite? especially to always be right in the middle of the photo. Please also note, to send a control signal to the satellite it takes 3-5 hours to arrive, and to confirm the results it takes the same time for the signal to reach the earth.
