- From the directors Bob Burnett and Alan F Jones:
Keith Rowe has spent a lifetime exploring the relationship between sound and physical objects through what can only be loosely described as the guitar. “What Is Man And What Is Guitar? Keith Rowe” is a short film that probes the thinking of Keith Rowe and the fascinating way he approaches art, the guitar and himself.
The film documents passages of Rowe’s ongoing journey, from playing jazz through early years of poverty in Britain, to exploring the unexplored with the ensemble AMM, to his groundbreaking solo, duo and ensemble work from beneath the small umbrella of fringe music. Across six decades, Rowe’s body of work has functioned as a signal for the parameters, signposts, and permissions for the unorthodox in improvised music. - Hudba
Keith is one of the rare few who can be called a true visionary. You almost become desensitized to the idea of something being boundary pushing in 2022 but we don't realize how truly insane the sounds Keith made all the way back in 1966??? Unreal. Thanks for everything you have done Keith, you are a true inspiration and visionary.
That still remains sort of the whole idea, I guess. Let's sing!@RusticFarmhouse_54
Sheer magic. The one and only David Sylvian directed some of us here to enjoy this. ❤
Beautiful ♡ I am so happy I landed here.
Thank's Keith, for inspiring me, for giving me permission to be free.

wonderful and moving. What is the music during the end titles?
Four Gentlemen of the Guitar (on Erstwhile)
i love keith rowe and this is a great video! does anyone have any info on what he's using the nintendo DS for??? you can see it around 10:27 and again at the end. is he just using it for the "click track" he talks about at the end? does anyone know what software he's running on it??? i know that everything is viable but it's still kind of shocking to see it on the table there :)
It was only for the click track, for this particular performance. It was a page from 'Treatise' that contained 47 dots, so he set the device to just make these very quiet, staticky sounds and, following the dots, spaced them out over about 24 minutes. A very moving performance. I think he's used it again in the handful of AMM shows since then. Partially because of how easily transportable it is!
@@BrianOlewnick thank you! it's inspiring to see how such a silly piece of gear used in this context, and it really shows how imaginative and resourceful he is! I realized after posting that the software is the Korg DS-10 program, if anyone else is wondering.

What is the name of the sound at end credits? Very similar to Oren Ambarchi
Four Gentlemen of the Guitar (on Erstwhile)
Keith Rowe (guitar, electronics), Oren Ambarchi (guitar, electronics), Christian Fennesz (guitar, computer), and Toshimaru Nakamura (no-input mixing board).
