      Wayward lad had dawn run cold at the last.
      He didn't get up the hill over 3-2furlongs at Cheltenham.
      She didn't quicken, wayward lads tank emptied.
      Bit like one man at Cheltenham.

      @@beverleymorris167 you're not the first to say this but in this instance you're wrong, he was wasnt 100% and had an interrupted prep and any other time he wouldn't have run but he wasn't getting any younger, brad(graham bradley) was gutted for the horse and what might have been 😔

      He just didn't like the hill at Cheltenham......he never won at Cheltenham, over any trip, I don't think, 🤔

      @@paultaylor7624 absolute rubbish...he was never good enough to win a gold cup...plain and simple.....he just couldn't get up the hill at Cheltenham.
      He reminded me of one man ..king George winner, who over the gold cup distance.. emptied on the run in.
      Perhaps they should have gone for the champion chase, as they did with one man.
      A fast run 2 miles in the champion chase, may have been the answer.
      Though I don't think the horse liked Cheltenham, as I stated, he never won at Cheltenham, and not just the gold cup.

      She was never a chaser in Wayward Lads class as a jumper. She should have been retired that day.

    1 of the best sporting occasions I've ever seen. Great trainer and jockey unfortunately she was owned by a greedy owner who should never have sent here to France to race after a hard season

      After she fell at the first,at Aintree next time out. Jonjo told them, that's it. Should have been retired, immediately after Cheltenham. Probably the best Steeplechase I've ever witnessed. I still cry for Wayward Lad.

      @@aidankelly840 I agree, to this day i believe Starkey deliberately threw the Derby the worst ride in the history of the race...made no sense from a vastly experienced rider i suspect other forces were at work and he actually rode in the Derby to lose....GB needs no further illumination he was always a c t

    What a shame this great mare wasn't owned by J.P. McManus instead of a greedy owner. The scenes after the Gold Cup shows us what it meant. What a tough mare.

      Yes. The owner was going to win 2-more Gold Cup's,then breed from her. Ended up as fertilizer,in France,instead. Pure Greed.

      You're joking. After falling at it's very next fence,at Aintree. Reinforced the fact,she should have been retired in the Winners Enclosure,at Cheltenham,along with Jonjo O-Neill.

    Memory is not what it was.? But I seem to remember that DR ran next in the AINTREE BOWL? and fell at the first fence. Subsequently then went to France and met with her untimely demise. Is that correct?

    Fantastic wee horse small in stature but had the heart of a lion. As someone else said there greed on the owners part got the mare killed. In the French Champion Hurdle she fell and broke her neck.

    Jonjo O’Neill had a reputation for whipping horses really hard on their tails. Watch how many times he whipped her in the run up to the line

    Bit of excessive use of the whip there.love to smack him in the neck a few times with it.greed got this great mare killed when she broke her leg after this.
    What a fabulous horse she was

      He couldn't stay the gold cup distance at Cheltenham, he was a bit like one man, didn't get up the hill in gold cup.
      If he had, dawn run wouldn't have
      won as at the last fence he had her cold!!!!

      Wayward lad didn't have a good prep coming into the race and wasn't 100% all that week but they let him take his chance because at his age he was probably going to be his last gold cup 😔

    My God, she couldn't jump a twig! How the hell she won that I will never know.
    On another point the commentary by the so called ' Voice of racing was shockingly bad.

      Sir Peter O-Sullivan,made numerous comments,as to her shocking mistakes, especially at the 3-rd Last Fence. Wayward Lad,was like a homing Pigeon,and had it in the bag. She would not be denied
