Sydney’s competition will be the CLOCK. Even Britton Wilson won’t be able to keep pace with her at his point. A thing would be her only real competition but even that is dubious.
Sydney will have to run inside 49 for sure to beat Paulino.
That remains to be seen. The difference between her hurdles time and her open 400 time would have to be 1.68 to beat 49 seconds. Paulino is definitely going to run under 49 if she's healthy, and Bol, Wilson, Nasser, and others may as well.
The better you are at hurdles the smaller the differential between your hurdles time and your open 400 time is gonna be. If you look at hurdlers who have run the open 400 more often than Sydney, here are the kinds of results you get: Dalilah Muhammad: .98 seconds. Femke Bol: 2.59 Seconds. Britton Wilson: 3.95 seconds. Karsten Warholm: 1.19. Rai Benjamin: 1.96. I'd suspect that Sydney's differential will be somewhere between Muhammad's and Rai Benjamin's. That puts her in the running for the WC, but not prohibitively so. Sydney's 400 time is old, so she'll definitely improve upon her current differential of .61 seconds, but by how much?
The reason she's likely to have a smaller differential between hurdles and open compared to Bol and Wilson is simple: her hurdles technique is exceptional. She's fine tuned her hurdling technique to lose as little time as possible compared to running without hurdles. Because she's done this better than Bol and Wilson, she has less time to gain by not having hurdles. The 400 hurdles are an event that leads itself to stratification: Sydney could win that event 100 times in a row. She could have a win streak like Edwin Moses if that was her ambition. Not so the 400. The competitors will be more closely matched. As a hurdler, she's the GOAT. As a runner, even if she's great, there will be other greats.
I doubt it. She is a remarkable athlete but she is not superhuman. People are talking about her breaking the world 400m WR on her first 400m race in years. This is such ridiculous hype and shows no understanding of the time set by Koch. Paulino will be very difficult to beat and I would be very surprised to see Sydney win this race. I expect her to beat her PB and go sub 50 but not much more.

Unless they tweak the schedule it will won’t be 🔥. Bol and Sydney will be running the hurdles and Uibo Miller isn’t running either.
Have seen the schedule on aug 21st that is the only day 400 hurdles and 400 are on the same day and they are an hour and a half a part. That is 400 hurdles heats and 400 semi. Sydney can jog the 400 hurdle heat and be ready for the 400 semi and hour and a half later
Talk is talk. Any given Sunday is the motto. Lets all just be happy to see the main event in 2023. By the way Ryan Garcia was not yet ready to challenge Tank nor Canelo vs Mayweather. Given few more years, it would have been an even fighting field. Buts thats so hard to ever match up.

Femke opens her outdoor season next Friday in Florence (400H) and two days later at the Fanny Blankers Koen memorial in Hengelo (400 flat).
Syd announced she wil start in a couple of weeks. For sure they wil meet somewhere this summer.
Femke btw doesn’t expect sharp times; she just recovered from a (minor) ham string injury and couldn’t train quite as much ad she wanted.

Now, onto Sydney's 400mh efficiency, she is very effective in using & alternating both lead legs over the hurdles which roughly equals her 400m pace, a skill that her opponents are not as gifted in.
Sydney is just learning how the run 400m. There is a .ethod to this race like all the otheres.

Sydney is a 400 meter runner, She's got the endurance and the speed. At 17, she ran her split in 49.85 in a 4x400m. 18 years old she ran 50.07 in the rain in 2018. With this time she would have been 4th at the Eugene World Championships. It's amazing for such a young girl! How much faster is it 5 years later? Where was Femke during the Sydney 50.68? More than 10 meters behind! You never watch the race? Sydney is faster! At the Olympics they they jumped the hurdle together at the start of the straight line, but on the finish line Femke was 5 meters behind. What makes her strong is her resistance which allows her to finish her race faster than the other girls.
The age at which people mature as athletes is irrelevant to how they perform as adults. The better someone is as a hurdler, and Sydney is the best of all time, the less they have to gain from not having hurdles. Her competitors will have a comparatively easy time compared to the hurdles because they won't have to contend with her hurdles technique. Splits, things she did when she was 17, etc. are all irrelevant. She'll be going against runners like Paulino and Naser who have worked their whole lives at this one event, and they've learned something too. Sydney's not magic.

I disagree with the schedule not allowing a double. The only day that the womens 400 and 400 meter hurdles are on the same day is aug 21st and on that day the 400 hurdle heats and 400 semi final take place an hour and a half apart. Considering that britton wilson just did the double with only 30 minutes rest there is no reason why sydney, bol, and others cant do the double.
