- This is the new Tamron 70-180mm G2. Tamron needed to update this lens and they've done it. They've added some things to it that I think really improve it. Stabilization, which is super important. We've got a closer focusing distance which makes this lens very versatile. We also have the ability to customize the lens. Let's take a look at the improvements and images from this excellent telephoto lens!

Thanks for the video😊
My pleasure 😊. Thanks for watching!
Thank you for the review. I have the original version of this lens and was considering upgrading to the Sony 70-200 F4 G OSS II. Do you have any thoughts on how the Sony F4 compares to the Tamron G2?
I haven't tested it out. If I were you I would go to the B&H website and compare the two.
Please review sony a7c ii in terms of iso/ image quality/ video quality and other parameters.
Are you meaning review this lens with that camera or do a camera review?
does the video stabilization work ONLY for 100mm or less?
Nice review (as always! 😊).
My only complaint on the lens is the lack (again...) of a tripod mount.
I know lens isn't very heavy, but on a tripod having a balanced kit is still very comfortable and efficient.
I did use it on a tripod in the early morning hours and I felt totally comfortable shooting with it as is.
@@TheSlantedLens thanks for the feedback 👍🏻
Please give us metric conversions for the weight etc!

LOL. Wish we were there.
Sorry, but the video is extremly inaccurate. I own the G1 version and I know how this lens performs on several bodies like the A7IV, A7SIII, A7RIII, A7RV and the A1.
1. The AF speed and accuracy depends on the body and how old the camera is. On the A7RIII the G1 was fast, but it lacks in precision. You directly feel that the lens works slower on this body. With cameras like the A7RV the G1 is super fast and accurate. It feels like a whole different lens. So the speed depends more on the body, than the lens today. On the A7SIII you also get a fast video tracking, so no problem in this department, too. Maybe you should try the G2 on an older camera, to feel the difference.
2. The OIS. It is unnecessary in most circumsdances. On the A7RV the G1 produces sharp images at 180mm down to 1/5s, on the A1 the limit is 1/10s. But even the old A7RIII delivers sharp images at 1/10s but not in the same rate. Also here, the G1 works very smooth in videos on the A7SIII even at 180mm.
3. Image quality. How is it even possible that I get sharp and detailed pictures at F2.8 on the A7RV? It must be unsharp and crappy, when I hear you talking. Low contrast while shooting into the sunlight is a point. Flares are not very pronounced. This is something, the 35-150mm has a problem with, but not the 70-180mm G1.
4. Bokeh. Overall the G1 renders a smooth bokeh. What you've shown us here are super simple, flat backrounds so any lens would produce a perfect bokeh. So will the G1.
At the end, the Tamron 70-180mm F2.8 has always been a perfect lens for portraits etc. There is absolutely no need to spend half the price of the G1 one on top, to get the G2 version. The G1 is a steal for the money.
The difference in price is $200. Well worth it for getting the updated features.
@@TheSlantedLens Here in Europe it's 999€ compared to 1450€.
Also on the secondary market, if I were to sell my g1 id probably get 600-700,and a brand new g2 after taxes is $1400. I was tempted today though to upgrade. Appreciate the comment above
I can get the G1 for 880 and the G2 for 1200 as of today for my Sony Alpha 7C. Still leaning towards the G1. Would you still agree?
G2's AF is marginally better for tracking, but this is cancelled out by the fact that stabilization jerks when panning. Image quality improvements are negligible, and stabilization is mostly negligible for photos. The biggest disappointment for G2 really is its poor image stabilization at the tele end, made worse by the fact that Sony's locked out active stabilization for non-native lenses.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the lens!
