@@projectlynx8125 He does. Doesn't mean anything under those circumstances. Low alt jumps have a almost zero chance of correction if something goes wrong. He's literally sitting on homemade plywood and rope that could interfere with deployment.

It's an old wire to prevent helicopters from flying through the area, not an actual zipline. You're not supposed to use a carabiner of any kind for that shit. The reason he was probably putting his hand around it was panic realizing the carabiner was literally evaporating from the friction.

Why would he take his gloves off then try to attempt to stop him self going 30 or 40 mph on a line that’s rusted
I think he took the gloves off to cushion the carabiner so it wouldn't slip and send him flying. Grabbing the cable was just a survival instinct not caring if he hurt himself.

The gloves got caught under the carabiner. If you look at 0:36, it looks like he gets the left glove snagged, so takes it off. Then there's an edit, so maybe the same happened with the right. I don't think he knew he was then going to be speeding along the line.
The first time I watched this I though they were zip lining across the full valley, and they were unhooking to get across the unknown cluster of debris that would have left them stuck.

You always have to make sure, it is possible to survive from such heights without a parachute though the odds may not be in favor people have done it from greater heights before and having a little bit of protection just in case is always good.

G D so I’m not expert on this but I’ve seen dogs burn through clips on cable like that at the rate he was moving if his clip burnt through I don’t imagine it would have been easy to deploy his chute also why would you have no breaking mechanism and the way he tried to slow himself by grabbing the cable in front of the clip seemed incredibly dangerous also he was only sitting on swing clipped to the cable he wasn’t connected so when he hit the break if he would have been injured and fell he might have struggled to deploy chute but they seem to be Russian base jumpers who aren’t at some highly professional location for tourists so again I’m not an expert

I'm pretty sure the guy didn't intend on going fast. I think he wanted to slowly pull himself out to the center so didn't think he'd need any kind of brakes.

What a brilliant idea
These two have absolutely no business on that zip line, they clearly have no clue what they're doing. Those draws they're using on the cable will destroy it and risk killing someone, they needed a pulley instead. Not only that but they're using thin gardening gloves as their brakes. Reinforced construction gloves are necessary.
My guess is they never arrived with the intention to use it as a zip line and more to shimmy them selves along to parachute off
It’s not a zip line is the thing.
They should have used the hook as a safety and had a proper pulley to ride on out to their intended destination. There are pulleys that easily dismantle that would actually work for this purpose. I could probably figure out an easy, safe way to decelerate as they went along.
If people want to do something stupid, they should at least do it right.
