  • ► In my ever expansive search for a wide, shred-friendly neck, life took a surprising turn when I played a short scale LP that made me love the neck shape. Most Gibson-inspired guitars have a 43" nut width which is already off to a good start, but I wanted an SG because it seemed more speed friendly ergonomically as well! Lucky for me, I came across this baby! This is a sound and spec review of an Epiphone SG Traditional Pro Electric Guitar with a really beautiful Sparkling Burgundy paint job.

    Update: I did decide to keep this guitar. The weirdest thing happened; I just left it out for about a week without touching it, then picked it up without any explanation it started playing well again. Maybe it needed time to adjust to the climate of my studio? Either way, it's always out and is a lot of fun to play. Probably will switch out the bridge pick-up though.

    Have a 61 reissue...plays better then any guitar ive ever had... build quality is spot on (better than my old gibson lp) and does the gritty stuff and also cleans up really nicely for country style.
    Only criticism is bridge pickup a little brash but middle setting sounds as good as anything ive had. May swap pickups for burst buckers.

    That's cool that it already has coil splits. You could put P-Rails in it and use those knobs for switching.

    I got the gold one about six months ago. I knew when I played it, it was a good one. no issues. I put grover vintage tuners on it and and got it set up and I Love it! I have a Gibson SG with p90's I wanted to try the hum buckers. Mine is definitely a good one even unplugged. Nice axe!!! I'm going for a real Les Paul next. Really want to try a Gibson SG also!!

    I bought the gold one from MF and after a bridge adjustment it plays awesome with no buzz. I was blown away for 329.

      Hell yeah, that's what's up! The gold was cool, but was leaning a bit too close to mustard for my taste 😅

    I love my SG in Graphite Black, getting used to the neck which is comfortable but different from my usual Les Pauls and Fenders for sure. No buzz here thank goodness.

    • @SpellsandCurses
      @SpellsandCurses  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hell yea, the craziest thing happened with this SG. I just left it out of it's case and allowed it to just sit out in the room. No clue what happened but now the fret buzz is gone =)
      The Graphite Black model looked hot, but the Sparkling Burgundy is sooo sexy. I can't find a pic that captures it correctly.

    I don’t like that it doesn’t have pickup rings. It has the thinnest frets possible. The pickups are low grade. Action needed slight adjustment for no string buzz. No dead spots on mine. Plays nice. Having said all that, get the Muse, much better instrument. It has medium jumbo frets and pick up rings and besides the coil splits, the neck tone knob pulls out for out of phase mode. Pickups slightly better than the traditional pro. Upgrade to the Seymour Duncan 59 ones with 4 conductor cable. I’m returning the traditional pro.

      Interesting, I was looking at the Muse but the sparkling burgundy of the traditional pro was too sexy to ignore!

    I was considering a discounted SG through Guitar Center, but fret buzz is unacceptable. Thanks for the warning.

    Have you ever tried an Epiphone Casino? I had to replace the tuners on my Epi Thunderbird bass. It would not stay in tune. It’s not a high end bass but it’s not cheap either. Now I’m selling it because my new cat (and soulmate)needs surgery. It’s all good though. I have more. 🤓

      I have actually, it's a pretty cool guitar. But like all other guitars, try them in your hands before buying! And I hope your cat gets better soon!

    Weirdly Rave, i was looking at an Epiphone guitar about 2 weeks ago in a Charity shop in Ely it was just under £300 & I considered buying it because it sounded so pretty, every time i went past I had to play the strings...it didn't sound buzzy but it was larger than yours & had a darker finish. Wonder if it is still there....maybe i missed out on a bargain! 🧐😕😖
