Fixing Volvo 740 part 4 - Interior

  • I added some cavity wax here and there and put together some of the interior... Just wanted to get the car in a drivable condition. I didn’t put the cars original carpeting back in - I need to sort out some leaks first… Also, some parts are broken or in a really bad shape… Kind of hard to find good interior parts for an 80’s Volvo 🤨
Some of the materials used in this project:
~1/2 can of Biltema solvent free cavity wax = ~5€
Some airtight sealing tape "Sitko Flex" (1 roll costs ~15€)
This car is a 1986 Volvo 740 GL with the B200K engine. It was originally automatic, but at some point someone converted it to 5-speed manual (the M47 gearbox). I've owned this Volvo since april 2020 and have used it as a daily driver every now and then. It is currently waiting for repairs so I can get it through the inspection and back on the road.

2:41 If you mean this one, surely it can let some water in if missing… But there are many more potential leaks also, unfortunately… This is my third 700-series car, all of them had damp footwells… Just because the floors had rust holes…

@@OnEWisE A few years ago welding 740 front footwell and frame rail under it would have cost over 500 euros, if I remember correctly. Small hole probably a lot less? I decided to get my own welding machine back then…

what purpose does the tape over the holes have?

Trying to stop smelly fumes entering the interior from engine compartment / underbody sealant. Also to prevent stuff falling inside the cavities.

@@ccrepairchannel yeah drove it through college, until 2007ish. My father bought it for $300USD with 256k miles and we spent about the same on bondo/fiberglass trying to keep the floor and subframe passing inspections. Many a many 140-200 mile trips to college, it never burnt a drop of oil and still was getting 27-28mpg. Loved drifting it in parking lots in the Maine winters.
