The most curious thing is that we fought in Italy, we won and in the end France, which humiliatingly surrendered, took our place on the UN Security Council. And today we are humiliated by France and Germany, who lost the war, in our sovereignty in the Brazilian Amazon as if it weren't ours. Our compatriots gave their lives in a war that was not ours for you to humiliate our country. That's why I chose to fight for the BRICS today.

There's much more about the Brazilian soldiers. There were three main forces acting in Italy: USA, England, and Brazil. The Italian people were starved. The American soldiers after lunch fed the Italians. The English army dug a cave and burn the rest of the food. The Brazilian soldiers, invite the women, children, and old people to eat with them. The soldiers first fed these people, and then, invite the men to eat with them. All together. It's remembered until nowadays. Go to the north of Italy and ask for "mingau". They'll tell you of this means for them. And who gave it. The Brazilian soldiers!

You can see in the photo ( 7:30 ), something that bothered Americans at the time and that for us was already natural, white and black men together sharing the same tents and everything else without any distinction.

one detail that often gets overlooked is the fact the brazillian army had no distinction to skin color. while black and native american soldiers had to work in their own segmented group, the brazillian army was much more united. with people from all races fighting together as one.
many even credit the brazillian participation in the war, to the cultural revolution that ended the us segregation.

There are all sorts of stories about FEB the one I cheerish the most is when a whole squad decided to go AWOL and look for the enemy camps to surrender, but to the Axis soldiers the FEB appeared to be chasing then down no matter where they went. IN the end the Axis soldiers returned to their camp, said the Brazilians were hunting them and all of them marched to a FEB camp so THEY could surrender... Us Brasilians are crazy and no one can see our moves lol

On 14 April 1945, at Montese, three Brazilian soldiers on patrol, Arlindo Lúcio da Silva, Geraldo Baêta da Cruz, and Rodrigues de Souza, were attacked by German forces, who called upon them to surrender (including their own leaders/higher ups); the three men took cover and fired on the enemy until running out of ammunition. They fixed bayonets and advanced, but were killed. In recognition of the bravery of the soldiers, the Germans buried them and erected a cross over their grave with the inscription Drei Brasilianische Helden ("Three Brazilian heroes").
There is a monument honouring the three men of the patrol and the Brazilian mountain infantry.
