Before starting to listen to Sabaton, I had no idea of the fact that there were Brasilian soldiers fighting in WWII.
Has been said before, and is worth saying again. Sabaton really make sure to find and tell th stories of heroes.
Thanks again for your great reactions.

Brazillian here, thanks a lot for reaction and getting to know our history! The FEB or Smoking Snakes is not talked about at all in the country, we dont even learn that we had participation in war during school, as me, a lot of brazillian just learned about that history because of Sabaton, which is sad, we should be learning this from our schools. Thanks again for making this reaction and giving your opinion on it!

Still amazes me Sabaton tries to make their music as accurate as possible with the information available. Going as far as to accept information from their fans. Which I am sure makes some of us feel like we are apart of the band.

I think it's because honor is a personal thing. Yes there were absolutely scumbag pragmatists who'd booby-trap bodies, but in this case there were men on the opposite end of the spectrum, who recognized and honored the selfless valor and sacrifice of their foreign foes.

It’s not exactly how that happened. There were brazilian survivors who saw them charging the germans. The 3 were in the REAR, well protected, and their platoon was pinned down about 30 meters ahead. The germans had the higher ground. The “three brave” - as they are known - circled around and attacked the German position from behind, under the cover of trees, first they threw all their grenades, then they emptied their ammo, and then they charged with the bayonets and were killed. Until their charge the germans thought that they were being attacked by a second Brazilian platoon from behind and took defensive positions, giving the real Brazilian platoon vital time to retreat. In the end, their action made it possible for about 1/2 of their platoon to survive. And they saw, 30 meters down and away their saviors charging the germans. But couldn’t do nothing but retreat because of the wounded. They died screaming “BRASIL”

It's clearly not "just because" that so many german officers still faithful to Uncle Adolf fled to Argentina after the war; Germany's diplomats had been doing their "softpower" groundwork all over South America even before the war (and it brought amazing histories such as that of the famous Graf Spee "pocket battleship" in the battle of the River Plate when WW2 began).

Yeah, for a long time I never thought about brazil in WW2 but when you look it up they lost less than 500 men and captured/killed more men than they entered italy with, and that's without massive artillery and tanks helping them.
So mad respect to the Brazilian army + I believe what little navy brazil at the time had helped the allies in the pacific too, so there you go.
But what I find interesting and weird is mexico, they mainly joined the US forces and had their own fighter core, but after WW2 an artist painted pictures of WW2.
Type rumbo a la victoria mexico in google.
The first depicts britain on horseback trampling on the nazi and imperial japan symbols with all the nations of the UN following behind, also on horseback, but all depicted as women, for, some, reason.
Theres also one by the same artist called invasion which depicts D-day and has a british knight on a white horse taking down a nazi on a black horse.
Considering how many countries were involved it's quite interesting to see if you're interested In your free time.

German U-boats used to literally hide _WITHIN_ the harbors of major ports in New England. They would wait beneath the ships in the harbor and could tell when major vessels were departing, and would sink them as soon as they made it beyond shore distance.

Hi K...you asked us to suggest content about the U-Boats in 1942, so I am gonna try...but YT hates people suggesting other channels, so this may not work.
The U-Boats operating in US waters in 1942...they ranged all up and down the North American east coast, and down through the Caribbean to the north coast of Brazil...called most of 1942 the "Second Happy Time." This was because the US was totally unprepared for dealing with the subs attacking the merchant ships in "home waters", in large part because they completely ignored or rejected almost all advice on anti sub warfare from the British. It took time for the US to figure out things like blacking out the lights of cities at night, lights which made merchant ships much easier to spot for the U-Boats, and it took even longer for the US to get a convoy system set up and running. There is a decent video on the Second Happy Time from a channel called Dark Docs...you can find it here: czcams.com/video/QETfgS4gQsA/video.html

    • @brudnick39
      @brudnick39 Před 9 měsíci +2

Note that the Dark Docs video is not comprehensive, and focuses much more on the US than Brazil, but it is the best video that is not quite long...all the rest are pretty much 50 minutes long or more.✌

As a 30-year-old musician and lover of history, I only learned about this story and about the FEB through Sabaton. Most history teachers in Brazil are left-leaning and they don't teach us stories like that, or at least they didn't when I was in school. I had to teach one of my friends (who now is a history teacher that Brazil was in WW2, and she's been to college, and she never learned that in school or in college.
By the way, I'm not judging any political preference, although I have mine, I'm just saying some teachers choose not to share some historical facts because those facts might affect how they teach their class. I disagree with them.
Thank you for reacting to a song about my country's history, and also to everyone who watched it.
Take care, you all. God bless you.

Brasil actually fought the war with those old rifles. They got some new ones by eighter taking from corpses, or simply stealing from the allied forces at the camps hahaha
When FEB finally went to war, their war cry was "The snake is smoking". They also writte that on a mortar at a famous picture when brazilian journalists visited to see the war effort. It was only after a few months of war that they replaced their boring patches for the Smoking Snake ones they are famous for.

    Excellent video!
I was in the army until 1997, I had the honor of meeting some veterans and hearing their stories during my time in service, they went to an unknown country, fighting in the snow (which we Brazilians only know about in movies), they fought and bled with honor, those who returned said that the real heroes were those buried in Italy, those who remained alive were just lucky
It's a shame that here in our country they are little celebrated

There are controversies in this story, as the three soldiers could not be together because one was a doctor, another was from a battalion and the third soldier was from another battalion. In the photo of the tomb, the crosses have a roof which is common for these crosses for those from a country that adheres to orthodox religions and Germans, Brazilians and Italians are not of this religion, giving clear evidence that this photo of the tomb of these soldiers is not real. This photo was taken in some distant country, where there is predominantly an Orthodox religion.
The truth is that it actually happened, of the three soldiers, one of them managed to shoot down a German who was using a machine gun, but ended up dying and he received a medal for bravery and at that time the other two soldiers were very far away at that time.
Brazilians have the habit of telling another story that is impossible to have happened in this war. American soldiers used to steal food from Brazilians and they decided to steal one of the American tanks and one day an American commander came to the Brazilian battalion and said: ok, we're going to stop this game of taking your food, now give us back our tank . A tank is very noisy and takes a while to get out of place, but people still tell these types of stories to make the story more beautiful and exciting.
