  • Check out the tour of my LEGO Winter Village display for Christmas 2021! I have been building and displaying a LEGO winter VIllage setup for the past 11 years now. The piece count for this creation totals about 25,000 pieces.
    The display measures 63" x 16" and is completely built out of LEGO bricks, no other supporting structures or materials are used.
    I have received a ton of questions, support and feedback since I posted my video of the 2020 setup ( • LEGO Winter Village - ... ). Thank you to everyone for the positive feedback on this project. Feel free to comment with any questions you may have.
    If you are looking to get started on your own village, the best advice I can give is to be patient. It takes time to acquire and plan everything!
    For this rendition of the village I rebuilt in 2020, I spent the better part of a year planning and ordering all the parts needed via Bricklink. There are countless hours involved to build all the custom display work, most of it was done free-building while surrounded by mountains of LEGO bricks! There are no instructions available for this, sorry!

    You are honestly the reason why I'm starting a winter village!!!
    I did want to ask would you ever do a "how to tutorial" like making the base and the second floor, aswell as the pieces you needed to get where you are now. I definitely want to take notes if you have any to give.
    Anyways great job it's truly amazing and inspiring

    Do you keep this up year round? My boys and I started building the Christmas sets each year. We are at the point where one will be retired each year and stay built. Hey Jason, amazing display! We just moved to a new house and were looking into planning out a possible Winter Village, stumbled on yours and love your format. How did you get that curved plate effect under the train tracks like that? I keep pausing at the zoom ins and I can see various angled plates, but can't quite figure out the bottom layer that gives you such a great large semi circle like that. Are there specific part(s) that you did that with, is it just a mish-mash, or did you cut some plates?

    • @JasonPettyjohn
      @JasonPettyjohn  Před 2 lety +1

      It's 1 32x32 white baseplate cut into two half circles.
      I carefully marked the radius on the back work pencil, cut it with some sharp scissors then saved the edge with dinner fine sand paper. It came out looking factory!
      2 layers of plates and angled plates on top tie everything together and it is very strong.

    • @MitchOLego
      @MitchOLego Před 2 lety +1

      @@JasonPettyjohn It looks like such a clean cut that I was doubting it, but couldn't find any piece that fit the bill. Thanks for the reply and, once again, great job!

    Love the grey arches and 2 level look! Your display is the reason we have started collecting the Lego Winter Village sets. The idea is to replace the ceramic Christmas display with this much more fun and interesting display. I have the wife and kid on board and looking forward to this in our second year. We also bought and built the Home Alone lego set last year. QUESTION: I know you said you didn’t have a list of the other components you used outside 15,000 additional pieces but, if you have your order list from Bricklink I would like to duplicate your purchases as a place to begin on this crazy amazing build if you could provide? Also, do you think purchasing from Bricklink is the most cost effective way to acquire all of the additional bricks? Would it be easier or better to purchase some other sets that have these same bricks? Thank you so much for the inspiration to collect and build an amazing Winter Village!!! Cheers!!!!!

    • @JasonPettyjohn
      @JasonPettyjohn  Před rokem +1

      Thanks for the comments! I always wanted to replicate the ceramic village setup my grandparents had when I was a kid, great inspiration.
      I have been acquiring random parts for over a decade, from multiple sources, so providing an order list just wouldn't be possible. When I get an idea, I never pin myself to specific parts. What I do is find a store that is in my country (for quicker/cheaper shipping) that has a large selection of parts. I sort by colour and type and start brainstorming how I can use what is available in quantity in their store. There are always compromises, and sometimes I just order things I might use. When I get the orders and lay everything out, I just start building and see how it goes.
      Bricklink has been my go to for the most part, I rarely order parts from LEGO as they take way too long to arrive. I have used the PAB at the LEGO store closest to me, but it is a 4 hour drive away, so Bricklink is my main source.

    Your village is the reason why I Started building a winter village too! Could you tell me which bricks you used to get the semicircle under the train rails? I‘m searching for hours and still can‘t find it!

    • @JasonPettyjohn
      @JasonPettyjohn  Před rokem +1

      Well that one is tricky, a lot of wedge plates, plates, tiles, etc in a couple of layers to give strength to the overhang. At the base is one 32x32 baseplate that is cut into 2 semicircle halves. I marked out the arc and cut it with a high quality pair of scissors. The whole base is built in two distinct sections so it can be stored. I hope that helps!

      Thanks for the comment! The display just sits there on top, it is quite heavy! The way it's built is very solid, so the overhang isn't an issue.
