- Ranger Chuck Teague leads a battle walk through downtown Gettysburg featuring the actions of Charles Coster's brigade on July 1. The units attempted to delay a superior Confederate force from reaching Cemetery Hill.

This ranger is very good. The fact he tells the truth that the town economy would suffer if entire battlefield were park property. Albeit the tourist trade draws millions of tourists. He does excellent job. I dint know how I missed this video before. Thank you D Stuffwriter.
Very interesting presentation. Have not really heard much about this part of the battle. Glad to learn more.
It’s amazing that there’s a tour on this. This action is just about all i study when it comes to the battle.
This is an amazing story that I never knew before. O how these walks are a great treat
Fantastic job done on a subject that is rarely brought up.
Thank you Chuck!! Great Job!
Chuck Teague is a legend !!! Thanks as always for posting these vids ! Outstanding
Thanks SW! You made my weekend
Thanks for the great videos.
Great story very well explained, thanks.
A true professional, poor man , eyes itch and carries on .
Hey StuffWriter, I was on this Battlewalk. If I'd known I was standing right next to you I would have said hello! lol I was the guy carrying the big Frassanito book, Early Photography At Gettysburg, and talked to Chuck a few times. I'm on camera in the video a few times lol Appreciate all your uploads, been watching them awhile. I can only get to Gettysburg once a year, so it all depends on timing if I can get on a Battlewalk or not, so your uploads are a great way to see these if not able to be there. Chuck does a good job, although my favorite rangers are the legend himself, Atkinson and John Hoptak. Got to go on a few events with Matt while I was there, great guy, great to finally meet him. I was hoping Hoptak was doing a Battlewalk that week, but he was scheduled to do one on July 27th, did you have a chance to go on it and record it? Matt said they have John doing a lot of the Educational stuff with kids right now, so he's been busy and not around too much. Keep up the great work man!
Craig Colandro
I wasn’t able to record that one, sorry.
@@StuffWriter he said he has fun pronouncing the names he should have said mispronouncing.
Wow....thanks
You can see the mysterious cameraman in the mural!!
3:45 fascinating...the ranger tells us that civil war generals did not have deputy commanders, so when the higher echeolon commander was killed, a lower man moved up, requiring another commander to take his position.
I'll like some more commercials 20 just doesn't break this up enough
Someone needs to invent a hologram technology that would show what Gettysburg would have looked like with all those soldiers in the field!
The fight inside the town was vicious and not really studied other than a few mentions here and there. General Renyolds deployment allowed this to happen and bought time for the city to be bottled up with only a key few routes open.
As I learn more of the battle, the first day and town combat of the retreat has become my main interest
You dont hear very much about the battle that took place in town lecturer did not make it that interesting either.
I'm not sure what book I read it it in, most like Stephen Sears, but the author says that O. O. Howard did a pretty adequate job as general-in-charge, but probably his biggest mistake is that he didn't post anyone in the town to direct the retreat which quickly became a confused mess.
@@balthazar2749 This is a link from Battle of Gettysburg that tells the story of Amos Hummelston who was mortally wounded providing rear guard during the retreat through the town.

Chuck must have just gottin some new contacts the way he keeps rubbing his eyes
listening to the sound there is strong wind that day, so particles were hitting his eyes
Can u please turn up volume on all tours. You can barely hear these people
1:14:20 lol i have a totally idiotic fascination with gory depictions of men blown to smithereens by cannon fire. I wish i didn't, and in fact i blame these Gettysburg rangers' videos for giving me tons of subject matter. "Their lines were so close that some of their skirmishers were literally blown to pieces at the muzzles of our guns"
I know what you mean. I'm morbidly fascinated by one description of a group of rebels directly in front of a double load of cannister who "disappeared in a pink mist." It sounds like they were so mutilated they were simply liquified.
LOL @ howard predicting Lee will beat them all with ease: @ 6:40. 7:32 "it is impossible for us to resist Lee; we shall be wiped out of existence..."🤣
I would have preferred Matt Atkinson to be the guide for the battlefield walk.He presents a more enjoyable lecture.
Can’t beat Matt
I’ve always heard through a lot of accounts the average age was 25.
That is what I always understood average soldier 25-26 years old
I think that that war cost more than it was worth.
Considering where we are today it makes me sad to think you're probably right.
yup lol
The camera work could be improved. Detracted from what otherwise would have been a superb battlefield walk.
I wish he wouldn't scream the quotes. It ruins an otherwise excellent presentation.
I agree,it sounds like he wanted to be an actor at some point of his life. It actually makes me cringe at times.
i said the same thing
Someone ripped one. Been there done that
1:11:16-1:11:18 lol!
it sounded like it yeah but that was a zipper zipping. you hear it again at 1:11:32
