    Since it has rear wheels, add some large screw eyes on the front, bottom member. Then you can use rope or chains to enable the tractor to lift the front end and drag the whole shebang to the next location. OR attach large screw eyes to the ridgepole and use those with ropes or chains to lift it wholesale with the tractor. It is just too heavy for one or two people to mive by hand.

    Sanders probably has a riding law mover he'd let you use to pull it with.
    But First, I'd double up on the front 2x4 so when it's being pulled the board won't snap as easy.
    Kevin and your boys could definitely build you something that will work great.

  • @elisummy379
    @elisummy379 Před 2 lety

    To make something to move the chicken tractor you can take pipe and bend it as a cart like a wheel dolly and put wheels on it and everytime you want to move it just put this little 2 wheeled dolly in under the frame in front by the door and pull back on the handle and it lifts up the tractor jus a little bit and you can pull pretty easy unless the ground is to uneven.

  • @farmboy5622
    @farmboy5622 Před 2 lety

    You could probably nail some lath boards on the backside of the door to help hold down the chicken wire. You could probably use lath boards on the outside also. A hungry predator will dig and and pull at the wire also. As far as moving the tractor,.....that's why you have those strong strappin' young sons. If nothing else,.....you could rig up ways to use the loader bucket, forks, or 3-pt hitch to move it around. Just for info,.....I do not know if Kevin looks at the "Farming Fixing & Fabricating" channel, but Andy has a video coming up about his chopper catching on fire.

    You could use some wood slats like the size of a yard stick and screw them down over your chicken wire to keep the staples from pulling out. Also just find a scrap board as a backer and put a screw in the roofing metal holes, it will stiffen the metal and fill the holes.

    Hand staplers are problematic because they can pull out easy after the wood shrinks. Maybe a few longer hammered staples at a little wider intervals would help secure the chicken wire and keep as you pointed out, the wire from detaching. This chicken tractor from the start was going to be too heavy, the operative word here is tractor. You will need to use a lawn tractor or larger and move it from place to place. Looks solid and will service a long time. God Bless.

    Good move on making that door, the other one would warp and fall apart in a year. You could rig up a piece of pipe on the front that the arms of a 3 pt hitch would slide over long enough to move it with a small tractor or loader. Looks good, they finish so quickly that they won't be in it very long.

  • @kajuncourier
    @kajuncourier Před 2 lety

    Would recommend putting 2 more tires on,given you a total of 4 tires. Have one of your boys to make a short trailer hitch to put on chicken tractor. At Harbor freight you can purchase a utility trailer dolly to move your chicken tractor as needed. If is still too hard to move, I am sure Sanders can mount you a electric golf cart motor to it,since he comes up with awesome projects. Sanders Movable Chicken Tractor INC.😊

  • @rdyardie
    @rdyardie Před 2 lety +2

    That looks great. One tiny suggestion is that you could screw on some top braces at the peak. That gives the "rafters" quite a bit more strength especially when it is going to be moved. The chicken droppings are good for the soil. One summer task was to take apart an old chicken coup. I will never forget the strong odour of chicken manure. 😊 . . . birds excrete uric acid as well as the digestive waste together.

    A couple of idea's........maybe cut ✂️ a short 2x4 and put it at the bottom of your door, for more surface area to staple to from back side to hold the wire better. And the other is about moving it. Use the same tractor and come in under your door with the forks and move it that way!

    Ronda -- Very nice job. I would like to suggest the following refinements. If you put wheels on all four corners, as some have suggested, you might want to either put some type of "ski" or "skid plate" on the corners of the ends you will be dragging it from so that the base does not dig into the dirt as you drag it. Also you could make the wheels on the end you will be dragging it from to be adjustable so you can raise that end slightly so that it does not dig into the dirt as you drag it. Also you might want to install a couple hooks on the bottom of the base on the end you will be dragging it from so you have them to attach your chain or straps to when you use the riding mower or quad to drag it. I am impressed though with your ability. You are a woman of many talents!

    Looks great! To move it you can try using an puting an eye bolt on each of the lower front corners and attaching the ends of a chain to the eye bolts. Then you can hitch the chain to a tractor or truck and pull it. You may also want to add some wheels to the front if you are going to pull it as it may snag on the ground, unless you hitch it to a 3-point.

    Nice job Rhonda 👍. If you move those wheels further toward the front the front won't be quite so heavy. BUT the tradeoff will be you can't raise the front much without the back dragging the ground. So maybe wheels also for the front? They would have to swivel though in order to "drive" it.

    Great work!!!!!!! from the amazing Acres of Clay ladies again . You could put 50+ meat birds in that big tractor. 1.5- 2 Sq. Ft. per bird is recommended. What kind of feeder will you use. many homesteaders use PVC cut in half.
    Make sure you cover the peak above the door. Nail slats inside the door to strengthen the wire.
    put I-bolts and a cable or chain to pull it with the skid steer. You will need to add wood where you place
    the bolts as 2x4 will be strong enough.
    Cut an angle at the bottom boards so they don't dig in while moving.
