- Mike Macdonald is going to bring a very different system in his run fits next year. Today, we dive into what that system is, how it compares to what the hawks did most of last year, and what that means for the 2024 season.

As a newer NFL fan, this content is super helpful in learning ball. And watching coach MM’s schemes makes me love defense even more
100%. Mike Macdonald was my #1 option this HC cycle for the hawks and also the one I was the last excited about because his schemes are so interesting. I’m glad you enjoyed!
It’s always a good day when The Legion of 12s uploads 😎
Thank you! I hope to make it more regular as we get closer to the season :)
Watching the Seahawks get punched in the mouth by the rushing attacks of SF, Pittsburgh, and Balitmore definitely made me want to see coaching changes in Seattle.
I did notice the run defense was better at the start of the season against the Panthers, Giants, and Bengals. Uchenna Nwosu being healthy definitely contributed to those games because he was able to set the edge better compared to Taylor or Hall.
I agree that the run defense got worse as the year went on. I don't really know if that was an actual downfall or just playing better opponents. Losing Nwosu was pretty massive and I think that getting him back will just raise the floor of this defense and provide so much more flexibility in personnel and formations.
Can’t wait to see Mike Macdonald Defense scheme
I love your videos I watch allot of Seattle Content and you are 1 of my favorites forsure ur film reviews are super informative and very well explained super underrated channel man keep it up bro.
I appreciate that!
I agree! I really appreciate the how educational and informative your content is. I hope you’ll have time to do this after the Seahawk’s game this season to better understand the plays McDonald and Grubb are calling. What would be really interesting would be a mid-season comparison of how the schemes may differ from what they did for the Ravens and Huskies
Thank you! I plan to make videos about each hawks game this season (we'll see if I can keep to that schedule 😂). A mid-season comparison would be fascinating and I've added that to my list of ideas. Thanks!
Love the Xs and Os aspect of your video!
Thank you! Much more of that to come as we get into the season so I can’t wait!
great video. many people dont realize that simply having a league average run defense will serve us very well with all the talent on this team
Thank you! I couldn't agree more. The hawks had the worst EPA in run defense in the NFL by a pretty big margin so average sounds lovely right now. Thanks for watching!
Go Hawks I’m getting excited for the new coaching staff new Era!!!!!!!😃💙💚
You give me hope, thanks for that
Glad to hear it! Just remember don’t let it get dashed in week 1 if it doesn’t go great. I’m planning to make a video on expectations and I think that giving a year of “not overreacting” would be wise. Thanks for watching!
@@The_Legion_of_12s No looking for wins, but respect on defense, we lost that from the good teams.. I want that back
100%
what about 3rd and short situations? does he add a guy in the box then?
Yeah I should’ve talked about that. On 3rd down he was creative in getting the extra guy but always got the extra guy. If you want an example of this in my Mike Mac vs 49ers video the corner blitz that he runs gets that extra guy in the box. He’s creative but yeah he will always get into 8 or 9 man spacing on third and shorts. Thanks for watching!
I don't really believe the scheme or intention of the defense had much to do with the failures of the run defense. The players weren't getting the job done. It's impossible to play defense if your guys aren't defeating blocks and missing tackles
I get the sentiment but the hawks were so much worse at defending the run than they should’ve been. Per EPA, which measures how much value you gave up, the hawks were BY FAR the worst in the league.
We had Bwags, who was still a top 10 run defending linebacker and Brooks who is also a bruising run defending linebacker a solid interior defensive line once big cat came and solid run defending edges.
There was no reason why we should’ve been by far the worst in the league. Yes Riq, Diggs and Adams struggled with tackling and I think that will improve but they should’ve been average to below average not horrifically bad. And that has to fall on scheme.
@@The_Legion_of_12s so then how come the players constantly post their individual match ups? How come they constantly missed tackles?. How come they constantly over ran proper angles?
None of that had to do with scheme.
The amount of times they were in position to be effective (scheme worked out properly) and simply didn't make the play (reasons I listed above) forces me to believe it's individual failure and not scheme.
Let russ cook. Lmao yea he cooked his ass all the way his second team since he left and is about to be a backup this season at some point
I think we both agree that he wasn't the right guy to try to pull off the new playcalling scheme but I brought it up because the foundation of the let russ cook movement is ran by pretty much all of the best NFL offenses right now.
You Seattle fans say the strangest things
You’re a fan of another team? First of all I love that you’re watching. Who do you root for?
