  • This is Part 1 of a series of videos documenting my attempt at riding sections of the ACA's "Sierra Cascades" bicycle route. In this video I start out from Burlington Washington, meet up with my travel companion at a nearby Campground, and then continue east up Highway 20 towards North Cascades National Park.

I was excited to see your latest video. Why was I excited?? I live in Mount Vernon,Wa. Just over the bridge from Burlington. I'm a touring person too. I'm very familiar the route you started out on. Looking forward seeing your part 2. When did you start on this tour?

Hi Tom. Thanks for commenting. I flew into Seatac 6/3, took a bus to Burlington and set off up Highway 20 the next day. I had to go early June due to some family commitments. In hind sight it was a bit early in the season.

@@TheOutsidePerks I was on a tour the same weekend over in the San Juan Islands that weekend. I too rode in the rain on Friday and Sunday. Saturday was a great day. Good luck!!

Thank you for sharing your journey. I am curious how you keep your bicycle safe and secure while you are hiking/sleeping ...? Also, I just noticed you have what looks like a Brooks B-17 saddle on your tourer. I've been riding Brooks since I was a teen (45 years ago). :)

Yup, I have Brooks saddles on 2 bikes and over the last 9 years they seem to be the least painful saddle for long rides. For security I carry a cable lock, that any hardcore thief could cut through, but it gives me piece of mind. I’ve also been known to put the bike partially under the tent vestibule if it’s a sketchy campground, then it sleeps right next to me.
