It's not that luka couldn't play defense he just never had the help to allow him to play it. He never had a rim protector now he has like 3. He never had more than a Dawg or 2 now he's surrounded with Dawgs. The mavs front office built around him perfectly

@@zeushualde5627 Not to small... to skinny. McDaniels is 6'9 and maybe (after eating and drinking a lot) 200 lbs. Dort is 6'4 235 lbs. One is built like an OLB, the other like a marathon runner...
Overall both are really good defender... BUT lengh never bothered Luka once in his career. He is used playing against taller opponents since he was 8 (played in the under 13 youth team at that age). Physicality bothers him. And McDaniels is a lot of things, but not physical! Hence why the way smaller Dort could at least hold Luka back to a degree, while McDaniels cant.

@@Smido83I agree size does bother him a bit but Dort was just trying to injure Luka most of the time and Luka was missing easy shots he usually makes due to injury. Now that’s he’s rested a bit you can see most of his shots are actually falling and he’s more aggressive now

Great team win but what surprises me most is how our front court dominated theirs. Gafford was stiff early but came alive in 2nd half. Washington was playing excellent d on Kat. Lively exceeding expectations as always.

Mavs can counter whatever defense a team throws at them with Luka n Kyrie but the unsung hero is Jason Kidd for preparing this team n making crucial adjustments when they need em the most
The Luka play where he disrupted the lob: as much as we can praise Luka for his defense, we can also acknowledge the incredible defensive rotation by the defense. Kyrie anticipated the kick out by Gobert and knew McDaniels wasn’t the kinda shooter to pump fake a three in the clutch and he had a full close out and lively closed out on Conley anticipating the swing leading to Conley driving. It was a great team defensive effort

In order for Luka be the Undisputed player of this league with the media coughing up the positive energy around the internet. J Kidd had do assemble a defensive team like any of the great championship teams it allows luka to really show the world like hey I can play really great D with my IQ being that I would know everything more than the average player to use that skill to lock up players too. it just that knowing your team is good you will just discipline to burn more energy to apply the defensive pressure because the overall team D is great

Seeing a lot of people try to make sense of these two teams. I’ll leave you with this
The timberwolves have given up 100pts or over in only 6 games this postseason. They lost 4 of them. They haven’t lost a single game where the opponents failed to break 100.
Meanwhile, Dallas is 9-1 when they break 100 and 0-4 when they don’t. The one game they lost while breaking 100 was when they erased a 30 point second half deficit and took a lead with 2 mins remaining only to fall a little short at the end. Total anomaly. In 4 of of the Mavericks 9 playoffs wins, their opponent scored over 100, so it close to a wash in that regard.
What does all of this mean? Hold Dallas to under 100, you win. Let them break 100, you lose.

Wolves have a decision to make. Either don’t blitz Lukai and let them combine for 60+ every game, or blitz them and let the roles players make open shots. Clippers and Thunder both blitzed and got burned by Mavs role players so I understand why the Wolves tried to shut that down. They’ll adjust for game 2 and blitz, we’ll see how our role players perform.

Yeah I've been calling Mavs in 6 as well. Not sure of the order but I'm very confident in this Mavs squad, I don't know what answer Minnesota has for them. Kyrie and Luka cook on the perimeter so easily and this opens up the game for everyone to eat, while Minnesota is struggling to match that offense and praying to shoot 3's.

Well, I know why they left him open for three and why we had troubleshooting in the beginning of the game Dallas Mavericks Timberwolves already cheating I saw in warm-ups were Ant-man was testing a bunch of balls out and picked which one he felt better to him and gave it to the refs so no wonder we can’t shoot early
And about four minutes and 40 seconds in one of the waiters when we were shooting free, throws the defending team, the wolves took the ball from the ref and dribbled it a couple times and then gave it back to the ref. They’re not allowed to do that.
A team is allowed by the NBA refs to do anything they can to beat the luka mavs. So luka just goes out and kik some refs asses too

Minnesota has a lot of adjustments to make defensively.. every time Luka runs the pick and roll he's able to dissect the defense and get whatever shot he wants lol

Plus we only made a total of 6 3’s compared to what? Their 18? And still managed to win is amazing. So imagine when it all aligns and we’re hitting our 3’s too. But Minnesota might try blitzing like what okc did. I felt like their pressure on the mavs offense was much more effective. But it’s only game 1 lol this is gonna be a good series!
