  • Nearing the end of my 1,179 mile hike along the GR 7, here are my thoughts on the route.
If you're looking for a long walk in Europe with decent weather and a dash of adventure then it may be the one for you!
My GPX tracks downloaded from www.rutasyviaje...

If you want to walk the GR 7 but stay in accomodation every night then it's worth taking a look at John Hayes blog, who did so in 2012: www.johnhayeswa....

Hi Man, love what you're doing, do you recommend the E4 Spain in winter? I would like to make the E4 starting in Budapest and i'll be in Spain in November for 4 months ( the best country to spend the winter in Europe)... Thanks !

Hey thanks for your comment. The Spanish E4 might be ok in winter but the higher mountains will likely have snow and be very cold. Might be worth looking at lower level alternative routes so you have options?

Well done, I have read johns blog and been in contact with him about riding my horse the length of the GR7, John was very supportive, what's your view? Which GPS/mapping system did you find worked best keeping you on track?

Hi Derek, sorry for the slow reply... I'd say go for it! I did meet a lady on the GR7 walking with two donkeys, though I don't think she was on the trail the entire time. The biggest challenge you might face is the overgrown and unmaintained sections of trail, but it sounds like an ace adventure to me! Good luck! Mapping wise I used Viewranger and bought the IGN mapping for the areas the trail passed through. However the GR7 is rarely marked on the maps, so I downloaded the entire route in GPX from www.rutasyviajes.net, hope this helps :)

@@AshleyGDean Thanks, a slow reply is not a problem as I am not in a rush to start.😀 I still have some routes to sort as near Girona I will change and use Gr92 along the coast then join up with GR11. Thanks again
