TechLead reference?
He is the alph male of programmers. The way he answers Joma's question is very systematic.
Wouldn't that be the 5 time champ and not him?
He has programmed his brain to use machine learning and algorithms to find the most optimal answer.
@@GodsNode adaboost inside his neuron
His parents used LaTex condoms
Iâm sorry.
everything was fun and games until he said he was 24, im 24, can't reverse a linked list :cries in 0(n^3):
I mean.. that's a feat on its own xd
Lmao
Big Cry notation. Cry(n^n)
lmfao
đđđđđđđ
You can tell he has very high analytical skills just by seeing how he answers every question. I'm a fan now.
Solving hard algorithm problems is pretty much like going to the gym to build muscle except the muscle you working is Brain , this guy is no joke .
Thats the thing about algorithms its actually the computer that do the job for you. All you need is to figure out how it will make sense to the machine.

I love that Errichto is so humble. When he said that about the money of the price you can realize the kind of person who really is, he loves what he's doing and he's really a motivation.
I don't think he's humble just normal he knows how good he is and that's it
@@alihamdar5916 but people who are that good generally behave different.
@@realagentpenguin not really when he was young he wasn't humble there was a master at codeforces criticizing somethings and errichto told him reach red then speak (and he reached red after a while) but that doesn't sound he is humble like is a master too stupid to criticize something? But he isn't stupid to talk like he's the best in the world he just knows that he is really good and one of the best but there are people that are better than him so for me 0 humble just realistic person
@@alihamdar5916 Ouch! I didn't know about this incident!

Every thing is fun and games until the guy lecturing you for past 15 minutes turns out to be the same age as you.
It's even worse than he is younger than you
Justice and honor well actually starting young can lower the barrier of entry significantly
usd 10.000 for best programmers in thw world vs 3 million dollar fortnite champion
Also these programmers could get jobs that pay a lot and that provide job security for years. Not sure what kinda jobs fortnite players would get but those jobs most likely wonât pay as well as
ZanK â I donât think you get the point. Obviously heâs not gonna be competing every month for 25 years. He has won a competition already and I bet Google, Apple, Amazon and the likes are *begging* him with over $200k yearly salary to work for them. Nobody wants to watch competitive programming. Itâs not as fun as fortnite. And the purpose of the competition, as he mentioned, is recruitment.
Because anyone can watch fortnite and be entertained. Nobody can watch competitive programming and be entertained... not even other programmers.
yea... very disappointing right? the world is insanely not perfect...
On the other hand, Principal Engineer/Technical Lead/Senior Manager at top companies in the Bay Area are able to earn over $500k/year. That's before accounting for some incredible benefits and perks. Given that there are thousands of positions at that level or higher, I'd much rather make a career out of that rather than hope I become a fortnite champion lmao.
For code jam, you dont ask who is the first, you ask who is the second Joma.
LOOL
The interviewer is fan-girling and blushing over Gennady
Hey Joma, you know what, This is one of the best videos on your channel. Please get more people in your channel like him..
Atul Kumar PK agree so much, wish this interview was an hour...love hearing great minds talk about themselves
@@heondokim Yeah man. People love competitive programming and continuing for a long time like 15 years. All these great programmers solving the hardest problems for us to make our life better. Their dedication has a great impact on our society. We sometimes can not utilize their knowledge by just giving a job in great companies. For competitive programmers, every company should create a separate role and team. It's my personal opinion.
Yes!
They organize code jam to find 2nd and 3rd place winner. and everybody knows who is going to win.
Techlead has already won all of them, the competitions are only a formality
Tourist
@diztiinct he has his own wikipedia
@diztiinct
Yes.
More generally, he's not like "miles away" from others, they're all very similar and you will find that tourist doesn't get 1st place in every competition, it's just that he's so much more experienced (he started programming at 6, and seriously started learning at 9) than everyone else and with that much experience its hard not to be #1.
diztiinct he f*****g won international Olympiad of informatics six times. He is also youngest person to do so. He started programming since 5. His mother is a computer scientist. He probably from Bulgaria or Belarus
Im so glad you made this video! I am a competitive programmer myself and it's so great to see the word get about programming competitions.
This guy is so cool, thank you for this interview!
"what if every job paid the same, what job would you choose?"
"Can I just play PS4 all day?"
That's a competitive programmer way of thinking right there
But why not xbox
the first interview where the interviewee actually answers questions without complicating things and the interviwer does not interupt and asks good questions
I competed with Gennadiy at school on a national programming contest. Well, it's not that I competed with him, it's more like I participated, and he had some easy practice for an international contest. He was already brilliant and FAR ahead at 15

The only programmer who can reverse a link list perfectly
You're forgetting ~~!#Gennady#!~~
I suck so bad at data structures.
Do you mean single linked or double linked list? And are you allowed to use memory or can you only do swap operations to reverse the whole list?
its so crazy, like these guys are so extremely intelligent, smart and most importantly hard working, yet some streamers on twitch that stream cool games earn sooo much more. The prizes for gaming tournaments are soooo much higher etc. Its crazy how entertainment really is the highest paying job for non entrepreneurs
people like him earn a lot of money, he can get a job anywhere in the world at google, facebook etc.
The same can be said about actors and actresses. They are paid more than scientists and engineers who are responsible for creating the modern world.

This was a much needed video and indeed a meaningful discussion. Thank you Joma !
Also it's pretty rude to keep asking that guy about genady

Hands down best video on this channel. Subbing because I do not want to miss another one like this.

2. At coder.
3. Top codder.
4. Code jam.
5. Facebook hackercup.

@@MiketheCoder Codechef isn't that popular compared to those, while Leetcode and Hackerrank aim at interviews more than actual contests
omgursocute they are still contests though!!
@@MiketheCoder I doubt the quality of the contests are good, there are reasons why they prefer CodeForces, Topcoder or AtCoder, not Hackerrank, Leetcode or Codechef
omgursocute I rather do Codechef instead of TopCoder. TopCoderâs UI is awful. Do you do TopCoder?
Imagine, In my school years in Russia I had to compete with this Genady, and how discouraging this has been to know that this guy started programming from 7 years old, and you only came to this field 2 years ago (I was 15-16). He literally was top 1 his whole life.
Jesus, I still remember his name đ
U having the wrong approach. It makes you better to compete against the best ones.
I just started programming when I was 20. Now I am 25 and still feel way behind these young geniuses.
You should be inspired by him, not demotivated
He qualified for code jam finals 3 times when he is under 18 .But can't participate because of age.
I'm 18 and just started getting into competetive programming
Whoa! I enjoyed this interview way more than I expected. This guy is a BOSS!
Lovely guy! Both of them! Keep up the good work @JomaTech
Was waiting for ur video since two three days and finally got it.
This guy seems like heâd be a great friend.
Sorry for going off topic
Wonderful conversation, it shows how organized and visionary Errichto is ...
tbh, i love this guy, really down to earth behavior and he knows what he's speaking, very wise
Hope someday you can interview Gennady !!, Great video
Super rude to keep asking about the winner of last year's codejam...you have an exceptional programmer talking with you! This shows very little empathy
I'm starting to believe the common wisdom that says that most youtubers are narcissistic. His interest during the interview seemed a bit fabricated, like coming from a place of superiority.
Eh? What's wrong with it?
No, actually you're right. He's asking it too many times. It's rude indeed.
such a nice guy, bring more like him on this channel
This dude is awesome. Also seems really humble.
Hi joma love from India... I like your videoes.. I am also working as software engineer and I keep motivated by watching your video..

amazing very good, congratulations to you both!
It would be nice to watch more content about this.
If you are interested on meeting different competitors, like older ones, here is a list:
. Adam D'Angelo (CEO of Quora) is red coder
. Petr Mitrichev (Google SWE) is red coder
. Mike Mirzayanov (CEO of Codeforces) would probably be a red coder
Karan đ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
Mike isn't a red coder, he's great because he created the most popular contest site atm but his level should belong to Div 2 (which is very far from being a red, but better than a majority of competitive programmers), as he only hosts Div 2 and Div 3 contests
what is red coder?
