Those sequences are invaluable.
The best guitar lesson advice I ever got was learn all of your major scales in the first five frets with no open strings. Then do all of your intervals with that same mindset.

Hahaha that's what we have to learn of the masterclasses. All the lessons require a lot of work after they gave us the info. It is not magic, is not that easy, but with a lot of practice! It is possible.

Agree 100% scales with a metronome. One tip when doing intervals is to start with easy ones, sixths an sevenths are a bit of a mind bender. I also find knowing the notes all over the keyboard for each key is really helpful. So mix up your scales each week, go up or down whole steps, C, D, E. Or around the circle G, C, F, etc.

Yep. There's a bit of good info out now, but that is the one book that can actually change one's world. Consider, especially, when it was published, late 80s I think. All you need is AG and a cassette recorder... lol
the usual stuff but a lot to do and keep someone busy for years to come.
What does he mean when he says “jumping”? Like when he says to jump the 6th?
the interval degree of the given scale. for example: C Major scale - C D E F G A B C - A is the 6th degree, E would be 3rd and so on

I love seeing all these great players but i find it really ironic that most records sold are by artists that now minimal theory and a few songwriter chords. Paul mcartney could be sat in this room and he just be as confused as everyone else.

Most people can’t handle the horrible boredom and grind that is required to do all this. I suspect a low level of autism is required to be a great player. Spending that much time on scales with a metronome is a total grind.
You say a low level autism... I say I high level of "concentration" !!! Do you really think all the best guitar players are autistic? Come on now, get concentrating, get motivated, and and in a few years you will play well....
Totally agree. And it depends on what one wants to accomplish. Do you want to be a true virtuoso? Or do you want to be just a great guitarist? If it's the latter, this is totally unnecessary.
We are all autistic in our own special way.
I must have a touch of autism, as I absolutely love the stuff! It’s fun when you break it up. For instance, metronome-based exercise only takes up around 45 minutes per day of a 5 hour routine. The rest of it is more theory based learning, transposing and learning licks/songs
are you serious? one must really be not dedicated to learning the guitar if they dont have the patience for something as basic as this.
So just learn every note on the fretboard and every scale known to man and 40 years from now, you will be a beginner!! LOL.
That's the ugly truth. There is no shortcut (if you want to seriously advance beyond cowboy chord strumming).

@@christophersherwood2879 lol jazz/fusion is a style not a technique. literally just arpeggios and small bits of chromatic scale runs. legit classical players run rings around anyone else.

altho, i did hear itzhak perlman try to improvise one time, it sounded like a klezmer street musician, kind of sucked, while mark o'connor is sort of the best of crossover violinists...
Never met even a university classical guitar teacher come close to say an Ed Bickert or lorne Lofsky
Respectfully not even close and do not ask them to improvise they will freeze. Their level of theory is much weaker. Jazz is king
Has anyone checked this content?? The instruction is completely wrong for Voice Leading and Power of Two notes. Voice leading is the concept of carrying one or more notes over from chord to chord in harmony. VL is not about scales. The power of two notes he asks the bass player to play "C" and then he calls out a chord over "D." It's completely wrong. This is what happens when you have self-study musicians trying to teach music. Please take this down. Oz should stick to playing not teaching.
This is nonsense. The best practice is to play music. Play songs. Most great guitarists are really awful teachers.
