    I'm a huge fan of everything from Old Forester. 1920, 1910 and even their 100 proof rye have done extremely well in every blind tasting I've had them in. The Single Barrel Barrel Strength beat out EHTBP in a high proof blind tasting. So I had to purchase a bottle of 1924, even though the pricing is a little hard to digest. I'm looking forward in trying it in a blind with other 10 year old bourbons to see how it does.

    Got a bottle of it over the weekend. Agree on the nose, its AMAZING off the nose. The palate was very dark, rich, some berries and lots of sweet oak and some leather. The finish was very lacking for a $100+ bottle. Really my only gripe. The finish wasnt very long, but it was really nice. Solid A for me. Great review as always.

      My thoughts exactly. Love OF, the price for this is a little steep for the product. I think $70-80 would be appropriate. The nose is incredible, but the finish is lacking. Very good, but not great considering the SRP. Having said that, I am thrilled I got a bottle.

    Happily gonna pay $150 to get a bottle from my local store to drink with the club. Doubt I'll have back ups of this bottle at that price, but I think the proof bump from 1910 and the age bump make this a no brainer to experience at least once. To some extent, this is also a new, buzzy thing, so if it's one time, I prefer to have some first hand experience to bring to the discussion vs. passing and relying on others to tell me if it's worth it.

      @RocketSauce666 Před 3 měsíci

      @@sistoav3844 - At the end of the day it just comes down to what you value. If all the mattered was money, we'd all just be drinking WT101 or plastic cap Early Times or OGD114 or whatever your favorite bottom shelf mixer is. I run a whiskey club and getting to try and share 1924 while it is new and interesting is worth something to me. Of course, how much expendable income you have matters too... but it just comes down to whether you value the experience at all and if so, how much.
      What is a vacation worth? You aren't getting a product that has intrinsic value and you can't sell the remaining days on your vacation to someone else once the price of those remaining days of vacation go up in value... you are having an experience and creating memories. What's it worth to go see an NBA game or the latest blockbuster or a comedian or ballet performance? It's all about the experience.
      For me, $150 for the new OF Whiskey Row offering is worth it even if in the end, we decide it's not worth buying another bottle.

      @@christinecamley - Sure, but I think scotch is ass... so that's not really a great alternative. Are there other $150 bottles I would buy instead? Maybe... but I can't think of one off the top of my head (especially if you consider what you can actually find said bottle for at retail, not MSRP).
      Also, it's not like most of us only have $150 to spend on whiskey where we can only get a single bottle or multiple bottles if they only add up to less than $150 (or $115 or whatever number you can get a bottle for). We're allowed to have both a bottle of 1924 and a bottle of nice scotch if your taste buds have given up.

    • @RocketSauce666
      @RocketSauce666 Před 3 měsíci

      @@sistoav3844 - I mean... have you had it? How could you possibly know? It's a limited release from the distillery that makes 2-3 of my favorite whiskeys, so it's worth a shot.
      Also, I just don't subscribe to the thinking that the value of a thing is strictly based on what the thing itself is. Is any of this whiskey actually worth anything? How do you determine the value of any bottle? If it's the cost of manufacturing it, we're all overpaying for everything we've ever purchased. What is rarity worth? What is an experience worth? Surely those things are worth more to or less to each individual person, but I suspect there are aspect of your discretionary spending that I or others would consider a waste of money, so it's just about personal preference.
      What's the value of a vacation? What about attending an NBA game or a concert or a play? What about getting a cocktail at a bar? Those are all things that are hard to value, but given the right circumstance can feel like a good way to spend money. It's not like you can sell the last 5 days of your cruise because the value of the cruise went up between the time you bought it and the time you got on board. What is a bottle of 1910 worth? Why are people comfortable paying $60 for it? What about Early Times or WT101 or OGD114? How do you assign value to a liquid in a glass bottle?
      For me and mine, the experience also factors in. We will get to try and share this bottle while it is in the zeitgeist and a new thing to discover. Maybe it's just meh and we'll never buy another bottle, but it's worth it to me to have the experience and get to try the whiskey while it's new and in the news.

    Was looking forward to 1924, Row series is readily available for me(Alberta, Canada), so it's go to for me. Price has started to creep up though and if 1924 does make it here it will likely be $175-$200 Cad, at that price it will be a pass.

    Man, Your guys pricing opinions seems all over the board sometimes.. That said though, the argument ive never really understood is id take 3X amount of Brand A, over 1 of Brand B. Like by that argument, id rather have any $100 whiskey than 100/1000/100,000 bottles of Black Velvet or Canadian mist (insert $8 bottle). I guess ultimately do you really need whiskey in quantity?? I want to taste a good quality and have an experience. Dont get me wrong, Of course price plays a role in the evaluation.. but I dont think its an equivalent argument to bring in quantity.
