Affirming a child's wish to change gender 'completely wrong' - Dr David Bell | Cass review

- Dr David Bell, who was a whistleblower at the Tavistock Trust, says a landmark review into gender identity healthcare proves that a clinical approach to affirm a child's wish to change gender is "completely wrong".
It comes as Dr Hilary Cass released her report stating there is "remarkably weak evidence" to support gender treatments for children.
In 2018, Dr Bell compiled a report detailing concerns some staff had raised with him about how the Gender Identity Development Service (Gids) at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust was operating.

@@cr9153 I'm not one to glorify in that way. The NHS has seen many foul-ups, whether mistake or premeditated or careless. I'm certainly no lover of that centre (I suffered lifelong consequences from the same arrogance myself, just in a different field of psychology), and rejoiced when their wings were clipped. Since then, I've developed huge contempt for psychiatry as a whole, with one exception (trauma). But at the same time, the scope of the Service cannot be left out of the question, as it encompasses the entire gamut of human existence in our Nation, I just wish they were actually the masters they claim to be. My father was head of Standards Regulation for the Mechanical Engineering Profession, so I know what the Gold Standard should be, and it's deficient in both medicine and dentistry, but worst of all, only third sector medicine has none, including psychiatry, and it shows.
This is what Jordan Peterson said from the beginning. The job of someone providing therapy or clinical treatment for psychological issues isn't to affirm the person who is being treated that all the feelings they have are correct. It's the opposite. To use the threat of suicide as a method to get parents to go along with this insanity was the most grotesque use of medical power I can remember.

Affirmation is a cop out, its thoroughly unscientific. Im sire its upsetting to be denied, or to feel your wishes are being denied, but a neutral stance is paramount. Meaning no dog in the race. This debate has become so dogmatic, so unscientific and less about the rights of individuals, more about building a congregation...
Affirmation in this case just means lying.
Perhaps, detransitioners should go to schools to give talks ,and drug addicts ,tell them how it really is.
