Due to the friendly nature of the song it would suggest spiritual or familial bonding. Different tones suggest different reasons for these songs. just a theory here.. but when you put your hand on one of your ears you hear yourself more clearly... and i think they would need that there so they wouldn't get confused while hearing others as loud
