Mt Elbert via Black Cloud Hike with my Daughters

My two daughters and I planned a Leadville/Twin Lakes, Colorado trip back in December of 2023. We chose to attempt the difficult Black Cloud Trail on June 18, 2024. We stayed at the Mt Elbert Lodge near Twin Lakes, Co. The trailhead is literally 100 yards from the lodge. We stayed at the Trails End Cabin because it is the closest to the trailhead. Great place, just no cell service, but a great way to escape constant technology for a time, and just be in beautiful nature.
We had many more adventures, beside this, which will be posted soon, but this was our special day to do something really hard, but also really beautiful in God's creation. We did not quite make it to the top due to severe winds. It was getting a bit dangerous on the narrow trail. I am so proud of my daughters for giving it a go. We lost my oldest daughter along the way for a bit. After she caught up to us she said she would make it to the top after my younger daughter and I decided to turn around. My older daughter did not make it either once she experienced the brutal winds. We know if it were not for that, we would have all made it, so we are happy with what we accomplished.
See if you would like to give Black Cloud a try yourself. The beginning is steep but no big deal. It becomes a really big deal past tree line. The elements are REAL up there!!!
