I just found your videos! I have a crazy love/hate relationship with my alocasias .. they hate me and I love them, I transferred them to Leca and had bad results within 3 days.. the leaves were dying and I got scared, put them back in soil. Since watching your videos I now know it’s normal. Going back to Leca and hope for the best.

You (and your hair) are really pretty! Thanks for the helpful video. This is the first one that explains a lot of the maintenance. Converting my alocasias to leca and am excited and nervous. Take care!

Wow! This information has really helped! Ive seen a dozen videos on transferring to leca and tjis is by far the simplest! I feel confident to do mine now! I do have one question? My plant has a lot of roots...should i cut them b4 i put in leca? Thank you!

Aw thank you! I would suggest growing new roots in the leca. You can leave some but I find that the old roots wind up rotting off. The plant should grow new roots that are adapted for water.

Nice video. I have the Alocasia addiction and the Frydek is my best Baby. Recently got a variegated baby with 15 corms. What size plastic pot was that and where did you buy it? Thanks again.

Did you have to re-water the baby corms when you were propagating??

It’s k if the roots come through the pot. It doesn’t hurt them and it cuts down on a lit 🔥 f repotting.

I come from the aquarium world and I think that washing all that slime off isn’t good. I suspect it is nitrifying bacteria which is great for plant. The bacteria eat the ammonia producing waste (that “dirt” in the bottom of your pot); decaying parts of the plant, etc. The ammonia is converted to nitrite which is then consumed by another type of bacteria and converted to nitrate which plants love. It’s the nitrogen in NPK. I don’t think flushing is necessary and it disturbs the healthy bacteria. Can you explain your rationale behind doing this? Or do you have a source that supports doing it? Obviously your plants are thriving so I would not change but just consider it.

Hey I have an Aquarium too :) unfortunately I have no source for my words just my experience. But what I noticed in my semihydro Plants is that there will be build up nutrients in the Minerals wich will eventually burn the roots so I flush them to restart them every few month. As it is a lot of Work I am not doing this more than twice a year honestly😂. And a second Thing I noticed ist that the PH will drop drasticely after several days wich it will not If the Minerals has been flushed so the bacteria are not only helpful. My guess is the biology in Semihydro is a slightly different one then in an Aquarium

Very true. I’m trying it long term with my Pink dragon and she likes it. My cuttings grow crazy fast.
