I think the main problem is that if you aren't The Elite or FTR, AEW doesn't really put much stock or faith in their talent in tag division. They don't try to build your feuds or anything they just give you matches.

Lucha Brothers and Ricky Starks leaving pisses me off, 100% Tony Khan's fault for not using them.
For me starks is (or should be) a pillar as much as the other 4 , he is such great talent and will be world champion one day.
The lucha bros are not great in tag and trio but they are also great in singles wrestling. the fact we will not have a singles penta heel run, or a Fênix underdog baby face run is totally baffling to me.

The problem is not the concept at itself that causes the problem, but the sacrifice that It will take for it.
You can’t at the same time build a great booking with the trio and the duo tag ones in a 2hrs show….
My proposition is to make a brand split and put the trio ones in collision and the tag in Dynamite !
And so by that, the huge roster will have more times to share screen times, including the titles…..
bro the concept of trios titles IS an issue. all it is is yet another tag division, and with divisions you need a multitude of segments a week to get it over and it needs to be consistent. its quite literally impossible to get what is basically 2 tag divisions over on 1 show. a trios division is far to vague and thin to ever get over and all itll naturally do is suck in tag teams cause who has enough time ti build up new trios like that

Trios titles should be used for whacky/crazy teamups like Okada/Ospreay/Omega, Conglomeration, Joe/Hook/Shibata instead of just extending already existing tag teams and putting them in the Trios hell. And it's not like the Trios title is being booked well too. It's just frustrating

I think the Continental Championship should be merged with the International Championship. I don't see why the company should have three or more secondary Championships in the men's division.

Belt inflation is the #1 issue. More main event wrestlers would in kayfabe and for a shoot want to wrestle for the tag titles if the trios and 1 or 2 fewer midcard titles existed. They're not gonna want to do it, and the fans won't care, if the tag titles are seen as just another of the dozen or so belts.
A tag division is at its best when its a mix of over tag teams and teams of 2 legit singles stars teaming togerher.
Facts wwe has a lot of belts as well but they have a brand split so it makes sense, when everyone just shows up where ever it looks silly, like oh where did this champion come from(insert belt here) when you haven’t seen them on dynamite for three months.
@@chozahfearless7524 Yes WWE and AEW actually have about the exact same number of titles. But it doesnt feel as cluttered due to them (and the roster) being brand segregated. That would be an alternate solution for AEW.
AEW is slowly becoming everything it hated, when it first began...It has a booker that wont step down despite being horrible at their job, and It is filled with wrestlers that are forcefully clinching to their spots despite the results of them being a part of the program, I.E Chris Jericho and The young bucks, and now their tag division...it's sad 😔
I was such a huge AEW fan when it started. Back then they actually told stories and i loved the slow burn part of them alot.

The slow burn story was what made me so hyped of their PPVs and peaked out at All Out '21. Little did I know it was the catalyst before AEW burnt out my passion for wrestling altogether.

It’s the meta commentary they do, their early work growing internet fans, and their early anti corporate stances/mostly WWE callouts.
Yeah, tag division needs a hard reset and to be kept 100% separate from the trios division. AEW has lots of tag teams that they don't really do anything with and the trios division seems like a good tool for throwing together midcard guys that are kinda directionless, we're seeing the potential of this with The Conglomeration and the kinda expanded version of Undisputed Kingdom with Rush and Mortos
This is what I thought the trios div would be used for..throwin some guys together that aren't doin much. But this isn't the case.

True it seems like they made those belts on a whim because the elite promised them a long time ago and they had already won all the other belts if they had it in the beginning I'm sure we would've gotten an actual great division given how many factions they had
Exactly and any team with more than 2 guys can do a freebird thing so it's not like bigger teams would get screwed either
As for coupling single stars into teams, I would reintroduce the BattleBowl tournament where they randomly pick people and put into teams and Battle for a shot at the Tags belts; it works great for Cole and MJF and put a focus on both the AEW and ROH tag divisions.
Also, having a tournament like The World Tag League would help too. In addition to Top Flight and Private Party, you could have fun promo segment with the MxM Collection where they talk about other tag teams and how they are much better (In- Ring and in sense of fashion) than them.

Starks should have been a singles champ by now (I don't count the FTW as an actual title) He was doing great main event work on collision when Punk was there then after Punk was gone so was Ricky's push and importance in the company no wonder he's leaving when his contract expires.

As someone who's been highly praising of AEW this year (and rightfully so), I 100% agree on you on the tag team division. Tag team wrestling as a whole has been awful for the past year or so (not just in AEW but everywhere else except for maybe the IWGP Jr. Division), but in All Elite's case is even more frustrating cause they have all the pieces to have the best tag division in the world, which they had up until Starks and Big Bill's reign last year, even if its prime was a bit earlier than that. But ever since it got put into Sting and Darby to have the Stinger ride into the Sunset as champ and then was won by the Young Bucks, which would've been the perfect move if it wasn't cause of The Elite (both them and Okada with the Continental title, which could also be a topic for a video) adopting the MJF strategy of only wrestling when it's necessary for them, which has gone to the extreme of only one match with championship implications since winning the belts in April... Which they lost to The Acclaimed in an eliminator.
And to put the cherry on top, the trios division has only hurt the tags since it got implemented, as all it's done is stealing away some of AEW's best pairings for extended periods of time (Bucks and Lucha Bros during the first 1/2 year, The Acclaimed from Wembley last year until they lost them to the Bang Bang Gang and The Gunns ever since; and outside the belt holders themselves you have the likes of Top Flight and even FTR themselves being stuck in trios with Action Andretti and CM Punk respectively).
Regardless on whether the Lucha Bros leave or stay, TK needs to cover what is right now a huge hole to fill both in AEW and wrestling as a whole and give the tag team division some love. You can still give time to the Trios belts, but they shouldn't be prioritized over the tags, and as you point out it would be cool to see some new pairings if needed. And I'm not just talking about individual wrestlers getting paired as you said (which would be cool), but also the likes of MxM, the Von Erichs and even GYV who are there, either waiting on ROH or available to be signed.

9:04 nope that’s not what happened we had a trios tournament featuring Aussie Open and Death Triangle and Dark Order. Dark Order vs the Elite was the finals at All Out 2022. Then brawl out happen. The best of 7 series didn’t happen until after they got off suspension

All 3 tag divisions feel like filler. No feuds with any story substance has been established. No characters or goals has been established through promo work. It is just 100% filler. I firmly believe that WWE could abolish all tag divisions and the company would be FAR better because of it. Turn tag matches into a specialty match type like the one that main evented WM40 and happened to be the only notable tag match in WWE in a very long time.
What makes this WORSE for AEW is that a strong tag division is one of the things that made it stand out as a promotion. It is where AEW could stand out as a true alternative to WWE under Vince and WWE under HHH. That hasn't been the case for a long time now.
I feel bad for the Lucha Bros...if they think WWE is going to treat them any better under HHH then they've got another thing coming. They'll probably win the tag titles on a weekend before a PLE in a random tag match with no build, carry it for a few months until they lose it in a similar fashion. No one will really care...you probably won't be allowed to perform truly great matches in WWE so people will care less about you then ever before. That's the most realistic outcome but hope for the best. Maybe in 2027 HHH decides to care about booking tag divisions.
You can see WWE really try to make a tag division and then they just, give up and get bored, wack them on two singles wrestlers or some faction and ignore them. With AEW that tag division really made them interesting but they went full WWE and if I wanted to see that I can just watch WWE.
The blind tag tournament is something that could comeback to reignite the division,it is a good explanation to make new tags that we never thought about, like... Orange Cassidy could team up with Juice Robson making Orange Juice, because, fuck it is random tag tournament, (ok, i might be biased because i really want Orange Juice to be real, but i still think is a good idea) .

I know this video is three weeks old, but what I feel like would be a good middle ground solution is by doing what Pro Wrestling Revolver did a few times with their tag belts in that it can be defended as a regular tag team or as a trio if they want. That way you aren’t diluting either division, and you can shake up title matches in whatever which way you choose.

This is actually the same issue with the midcard titles.. The TNT title has zero meaning, the continental title is a prop for a Okada, and boy the way they booked the International title, it's been the revolving door of titles. It gets passed around like a hot potato...
I loved the Trio Tag Team titles if they would put it on wrestler that would defend them every week and the Tag Team titles they should take it off the Young Bucks and give it to a Tag Team that will put them on the line every week

i’m not even an aew fan and i agree with all of this, and honestly between the overly hard criticism and overly bias reporting of the company. i can say this video was a great way to see things from an objective view from an honest fan

AEW has needed a brand split for a long while, i know aew fans like tranquilo say no thats too wwe but if something works why not put your own spin on it. Right now you have Ospreay and MJF making the International title feel like a huge deal, you can and should make the Trios and Tag titles feel unique by splitting the roster on 2 shows. They have too much talent that can easily be main eventers for a first time or return into the main event (Jay, Takeshita, Rush, Briscoe, Eddie, Mox, Garcia, Brody) and by splitting the shows you can give people the ability to climb into the main event. all in all the tag division will feel big again when Kenny comes back and Kota and him reform the Golden Lovers

@@kingMurdock3425 i mean i dont even watch wwe at all besides a youtube highlight here and there, AEW can easily make a brand split feel unique in their own way like just do a press conference as the draft instead of the tv stuff wwe do. TK said they want a sports presentation just lean into that style of draft and as for making it more different just dont do the whole shake up thing.
I truly thought at one point the Tag Championship was the most important title in AEW.
I definitely think that the titles need to be defended, and I think they could come back with the Bucks defending every week. Honestly, the storyline should be that all the other tag teams are mad that the belts aren’t being defended and we should get a line of matches week after week after week where the Bucks are forced to fight a new team every time

Young Cucks killed Bullet Club's mainstream relevance and pretty much every tag team scene they've been involved in from the indies to NJPW, and especially sealed the fate of AEW's non-singles division since day 1.

The problem with WWE's tag teams isn't the talent involved but that they're split between two shows. If they just have one set of championships and defend across both shows, this would solve most of their problems.

I don’t think the trios is much of an issue, there was a point trios wasn’t on ppv matches. Both title can exist with each other. The problem is what you pointed out is that they don’t have wrestlers teaming up no more. The Tag division can be deep there’s a lot low-key teams in AEW but they only like to reuse the same team.
Lucha bros are better off as singles wrestlers and showed that in Lucha Underground and kinda TNA with Penta. They just need a competent booker

i think its a combination of things. when AEW bought ROH they kept showing the belts on AEW tv every week then having AEW wrestling winning those belts, and it felt like they had WAY to many belts, the other major factor was the Trios belts, you cant have tag and trios in the same company this early, look at ROH it worked because they added those belts at least 10 years later not just 3.

I usted to watch AEW every now and then when it started. The point that made me watch Dynamite as a must see TV was when Swerve In Our Glory won rhe titles against The Young Bucks and Ricky Starks and Powerhoue Hobs. I absolutley loved that match. Saddly, those days are long gone and every time I see Dynamite now it feels souless to me.
It's not helped when the Bucks are holdin the tag titles hostage.

The tag division is pretty much non-existent in AEW right now which sucks because in the beginning their emphasis on Tag wrestling was one of the companies biggest highlights. That was truly something AEW had over WWE and that was tag wrestling now it just feels like an afterthought in both companies. The trios division reaĺly hurt them because it takes away teams like the gunns and HOB and the patriarchy teams that could and should be fighting for tag titles but are just kinda lost feuding over meaningless trios belts. FTR vs ths Bucks was cool the first couple of times watching it but its getting old at this point and they really need to do something to make the tag division feel special again.
AEW decided to sacrifice their tag division for the trios title only for the bucks and omega to hold titles together. How you can fumble a division with that amount of talent is something insane
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I heard that AEW couldn’t showcase their luchadores when CMLL guys were there. I feel like that is another contributing factor to the Lucha Brothers desire to leave. They are top guys but they weren’t treated as such for the last year or so

It's crazy to think that The Acclaimed have killed both the tag and trios division. Their 1st match against Swerve and Our Glory made everyone think they were a lot better in the ring than they were, IMO. That along with TK deciding not to put them in matches with teams that were ontop of the division either because TK didnt want to put them over them or the teams thereselfs didnt want to put them over led to The Gunns being the next champs. Then putting The Acclaimed and Billy over HOB long after the shine was worn off The Acclaimed was a mind-blowing decision.
I agree with all your solutions, but sadly, most likely, what will happen with the tag division is The Bucks continuing to hold the titles until Copeland returns, and they somehow reunite him with Christian to take the titles.
Everything has a time period. Some are good and some are bad. Eventually the tag team decision will bounce back up
Wcw had a horrible time period from 2000-2001 and didn’t go out of business cuz of it, It was cuz of the time Warner merger. Eventually they would’ve bounced back up again had they stood in business. Wwe did horrible from 2005-2012 and there bounced back up.

It'd make alot of sense if they did a hard brand split between Dynamite and Collision and make Tag team Wrestling/Tag titles exclusive on Dynamite and Trios matches/titles Collision exclusive. Get some tag teams like Subculture, Grizzled Young Vets, Wasted Youth & Samoan Swat Team to help rebuild their tag division. They should also consider signing Calvin Tankman & having him reunite with his former MLW tag partner EJ Nduka and reform Hustle and Power.

I can see Lucha Bros being teamed with Priest and Rhea to feud with Judgement Day. They are very entertaining and would succeed in WWE. Fenix has massive singles potential as well.
The Trios titles need to be thrown in the trash cause they have way too many titles & damnit Best Friends should have won the tag titles after that parking lot brawl & SCU should have never broken up. This company had the best tag division Red dragon, Lucha Bros, Young Bucks, Golden Lovers, Private Party, Top Flight, The Gunn Club, FTR, Jay& Juice. They should only have the World Title, TNT, Tag team & TBS& Women's, however the Being The Elite title should have been put on TV cause the gimmick would get over where the champion picks a game that's not a wrestling match in which they defend it.
When the Gunns lost the belts to FTR is when AEW died. I didn't know it cause it was followed by Shibata vs. Daniels, but seeing Tony stroke FTR bald's ego was the end of this company as an alternative.
