    I agree with your method. But now I clean and dry my shower area after every use. Not because I love cleaning, but I just hate cleaning dirty bathroom, especially when I have to share one with a messy person. Now I move to a new home so I promise myself to keep it clean from day one. And it works!!! After living in this house for about 3 years, my bathroom is still as clean as new. That makes me very happy to come to shower and leave it after cleaning it. 😂😂😂😂

    I have an iron problem in my water, and I like the many benefits of cleaning vinegar, so after I shower I spray the shower walls with a spray bottle of cleaning vinegar that I keep in the sower, then I use a squeegee to remove it and an old towel to dry everything off (including the bathtub floor). I use Dr.Bronners Tea Tree as a body wash, it doesn't create as much soap scum as traditional bar soap can. I am a house cleaner as well, very interesting video Mrs.Brown, and cool shower-mop! 👍

    I haven't cleaned my tub or shower in years! And they look like new! How often do you clean soap scum from the inside of your dish washer? How about from inside your washing machine? Correct, never. The best way to clean soap scum is never get it in the first place. Chunk all your bath soap and only use liquid soap. The main ingredient in bar soap is Sodium tallowate. Sodium tallowate is a true soap made by combining the fatty tissue (or tallow) of animals, such as cattle and sheep, with lye, typically sodium hydroxide". It's pure white animal fat that holds the soap in a clump. It sticks to the tile or tub and water will not run over it. Sits there and the water evaporates and leaves mineral deposits on the fat. Repeat a few times and you have "soap scum". Liquid soap or "detergent" holds oily skin residue in suspension and it washes everything away when you rinse. Just like your clothes or dish washer. Also an added benefit is that your drains will never clog up!!

    we had an old 1958 shower w/ a fiberglass pan - what I originally thought was fading was soap scum build up ( the pan was green but had large blotches of beige - ew....) plus decades of hard water build up on the glass - I confess I was so desperate to clean the glass that I finally used mineral spirits and a rag to successfully clean the glass (yes, it was clean and didn't etch the glass - this was over 25 years ago) and for the 1/4 inch layer of soap scum I used several pots of boiling water to soften it and removed it w/ a flexible plastic putty knife.....I also recommend turning on the exhaust fan when you start the water and let it continue for 1/2 hour after use

    This is great. We already do a few of these things but I will add a few more. Question: We just moved into a house where older people. The house has a distinct smell. We had a profession carpet cleaner clean all the carpets and deodorize them and do the air vents and steam clean and deodorize the tile in the bathrooms and laundry room. It helped greatly. The only part of the house that smells is the master bathroom/shower. What can I do? The shower is all tile and each time we shower the smell gets stronger. Any thoughts?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 3 lety +5

      If the smell is in your shower, I wonder if it's the sewer lines or mold in the walls. Lots of times the toilet pipes are connected to the bathtub or shower pipes and when the toilets are backed up - the tub and showers will smell. A plumber could help with this.
      Tile by itself doesn't have a smell. So, if you're smelling it in the shower - it could be mold that is in the walls from a leak behind the faucets or shower head. A mold remediation specialist could help with this. They can test each floor of the home to determine if you have mold and they will check the attic and crawl spaces of the home. Since you've done a full house clean and deodorize but still have traces of the smells - I'm thinking it might be mold. The quicker you catch the mold - the less expensive it will be to remove.

    I hate cleaning showers (says the house cleaner) so I clean mine everytime I use it. I do wipe it down so that it's dry.
    When I clean for a client the first thing I do is run the showers hot for 15 minutes so it gets hot and steamy while I'm doing other things. I use Dawn AND Vinegar to scrub the walls and floor down, a squeegee and always wipe it dry.
    For my out of state elderly parents who can't wipe down after showering I have them use a "clean shower" type product, (at first I was against those -- what's your opinion?) it does seem to help keep the scum down between their regular bi-monthly house cleanings.

      The spray and away product I recommend is 3% Hydrogen Peroxide in a dark spray bottle amzn.to/3nhM9FB this one is made for Hydrogen Peroxide and will keep daylight and sunlight out of the bottle which will help protect the stability and effectiveness of the product. It will keep the grout white, and will remove surface mold and mildew which makes it a great product to spray on your way out of the shower. The small bottles are expensive compared to regular HP but you can refill the bottles when it runs out with a larger, cheaper bottle from any store.

      The goal with this video is to get homeowners to maintain their showers between professional cleanings. If you have a difficult to clean job, you may want to use a stronger chemical. Remember the pH of Dawn dish soap id 9 - 9.2? A degreaser like Krud Kutter Original Cleaner/Degreaser amzn.to/3newVBe with a pH of 12.2 may be a better bet for super icky showers. Once clean, you can go back to using Dawn. The secret is to use the chemical with the least amount of strength for the task at hand. Yes, you can use Sal Suds in place of Dawn. And for the shower curtain, if the family has a shower head on a hose, hosing it down after each shower will help - then pulling the shower curtain closed so it can drip dry with proper ventilation is best. Are the curtain liners plastic or cloth? And are you talking about a deep clean or a maintenance clean for the curtain liners? If they are really gross, you may want to replace them. The liners are usually under $5. You can remove the liners and put them in a hot cycle in the washing machine with 1/2 cup of white cleaning vinegar and run them for a cycle and then rehang to drip dry. Also, if you have a shower head on a hose, you can hose the soap off the curtains after each shower just like you would a glass door. That will prevent buildup.

    Angela, I just cleaned shower as suggested. I will be buying the squeegee brush thing today. I have bought the Oxo small brushes you suggested. What I am wondering is do you have a basic list of how you should start and where when you are cleaning your own house? Thank you.

    I purchased the squeegee that you cut the handle. However, I am very short, and my shower tiles reach all the way to the ceiling. Is there squeegee that looks like the one you cut, that has a longer handle so I can reach. I have a universal stick that is tall, but the opening in the squeegee is too small for the stick to fit. Thank you.

    Hello Angela, what is your recommendation for cleaning mold sprinkles on bathroom ceiling?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před rokem +3

      Yowser. If there is mold on your celings, it is possible that the mold is growing behind the walls. I' would stop what you are doing and immediately call a mitigator to come out and test for moisture. If you can catch it now while there are "sprinkles" of mold, you can save thousands in property damage. Your home owner's insurance will probably cover it if you call immediately. If you wait as long as 2 weeks, the home owners insurance may call it "neglect" and not cover it at all. Please don't ignore this.

    What are your thoughts on using a battery powered drill with sponge heads? Or steam cleaners with just vinegar as the cleaner?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 3 lety +3

      The battery powered drill is not my favorite option because the battery can go dead while in the middle of a job. Using a cord sets you up for success and you don't have to worry about charging the battery or carrying extra batteries with you on the job. The corded drills are also less heavy than the battery packs and reduce arm fatigue if holding a drill over your head to clean the upper part of a shower.
      And I'm a big fan of steam cleaners (but using vinegar in them) will void the warranty on most models. It will also discolor and can crack the water tank as it heats up.

    Please help! Any tips for removing black mold spots in the shower on ceramic tile?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 11 měsíci +2

      Yes, get some dark-colored spray bottles (I use these amzn.to/3OOQIFI - paid link) and fil one full of hydrogen peroxide. After showering and squeegeeing the excess water out of the shower, spray the mold-collecting areas with hydrogen peroxide and leave it on the ceramic tile. The hydrogen peroxide will help decompose the black mold.
      NOTE: If the mold is on the walls in places other than the shower, you may need to get a mold remediation company in there to help.

  • @rondalee7704

    For the house cleaners out there, this works great for me. If you have a client with build up soap scum on glass doors i use the vinegar/dawn hack and a good non scratching scrubby. Depending on how thick the scum, it may take a few applications but it works great. Then just rinse and wipe. Spray with glass cleaner and wipe dry again for a beautiful shine. You can Google the recipe for vinegar/dawn hack.😁

      Won’t vinegar remove the sealer from the grout? Because it’s acid

    • @ForGoodnesSake
      @ForGoodnesSake Před 2 lety +1

      I saw that on another video but also it will deteriorate the rubber seals so I stopped doing that. Instead I use Bar Keepers Friend for heavy build up and/or hard water stains on glass doors, shower walls, countertops, faucets, it makes porcelain sinks and tubs shine like new...also removes rust stains. It's safe for natural stone and grout as well. For the grout I use a grout brush but I'll use a denture brush for smaller spots like around faucets. You can't use vinegar on natural stone it will etch it due to the acid.

    Thanks for the great cleaning tips Angela.
    Unfortunately I've tried Blue Dawn, Vinegar and Dawn, Barkeepers Friend Cleanser and Foam Spray Liquid Cleaner for vertical surfaces, Scrubbing Bubbles cleabers, several other Liquid and Softsoap Bathroom Cleaners and cleansers, Lysol Bathroom Cleaners, CLR Limescale, SOS Pads, Steel Wool 4x0000 Ultra Fine etc., recently and over the years. But I just cannot get the watermarks off of my glass shower doors, they feel completely clean using these variety of products, but when the doors dry the watermarks are right back even when I squeegee and follow it with a blue glass microfiber cloth.
    Angela or anyone else...
    Can you please help me to find something that really works to finally conquer those unsightly water marks on my shower doors? I would really appreciate any insight, product or technique suggestions you can offer me that work, on what to use or do to remove these watermark stains on my bathtub glass shower doors. Thanks very much.

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      It sounds as if you may have hard water etched in the glass. Using all these other strong chemicals should have removed normal soap scum or shower buildup - and if it's water marks that are left, it sounds like hard water.

      AUTO DETAILERS use special products to remove haze and other contaminants from car windsheilds and windows. It really works--I recently had my 2001 vehicle detailed and the windshield looks like new, (has about ten years of outdoor living/driving on it) plus water sheds off as if it had been waxed! It might behoove you to see if you can have a detailer work on your shower glass.

      Cultured marble yes. It will work the same as tile and will wash right off. My recommendation is a non-scratch scrub sponge so it doesn't leave fine scratches on the cultured marble. (The blue one is best - Paid link amzn.to/3NDzB6N so you can see which one I'm talking about.)

    If the ceramic tiles are yellowing in places, is that soap scum that was left? Years ago I used to color my hair and wondered if it is from that? I have tried a cleaner with peroxide, but it does not help. Barkeeper's friend not working either. Help, this is depressing. I will try Dawn. Will this be strong enough?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před 2 lety +1

      Here's something I found on yellowing tiles: What causes ceramic tile to yellow?
      Conclusion. Shower tiles might begin to turn yellow due to dyes, iron content, body oils, product waxes, mold, or moisture build-up. Getting rid of yellow coloration on tiles or grout often involves baking soda, vinegar, and diligent cleaning habits.

    Do you recommend washing plastic shower curtains with Dawn also, or with vinegar, or using both?

    • @AskAngelaBrown
      @AskAngelaBrown  Před rokem +2

      Both Dawn dish soap and vinegar can be effective for washing plastic shower curtains. Dawn helps remove soap scum and grime, while vinegar eliminates mold, mildew, and odors. Start by gently scrubbing the curtain with a mixture of warm water and Dawn. If there's mold or mildew, follow up with a vinegar solution of equal parts water and white vinegar. Rinse thoroughly after using any cleaning solution and check the manufacturer's care instructions for specific recommendations. Regular cleaning and maintenance will help keep your plastic shower curtain in good condition. Hope this helps.
