In this two video series I'm building a shaker inspired dresser. The design was actually inspired by a piece in Lonn Taylor's book, "Texas Cabinet Makers". It features four drawers with hand cut dovetails. The drawer boxes were built from quarter-sawn white oak and for the interior components of the dresser I used hard maple and poplar. The main wood species is escarpment cherry, which is a specie of American Black Cherry. Escarpment cherry grows exclusively in the Texas Hillcountry and has a very unique grain color.

Nice work, you are a true Craftsmen !
Both my thumbs are like that.
That is a really nice piece of furniture. The average person needs to see this video to understand how much work goes into a quality hardwood piece.
Well said sir!
you are exactly right Nick, quality takes time.
I agree 100%
The amount of work into that backing would make me actually consider “do i really wanna put this against a wall?”😂😂
This is the build that made me fall in love with cherry. It is a beautiful design, well executed.
"I'm not a pro". The rest of us...yes you are. Beautiful work.
You should include more footage of applying finish to pieces
That would be great!!
Yeah I didn’t touch much on that...it was a simple oil finish I used around 5 coats.
@@AndyRawls BTW the two video format seems like a good idea, that way you won't be taking heat for it LOL.
Yeah, I missed the money shot too.
Just watched both parts to this build and super glad the algorithm auto -played u. First timer and really enjoyed that build. Love the demeanor and the overall vibe of it. Big Fun!!!
Wow that’s some talent , I love how you used the draw front with the nice patten in it not just perfect boards with no caricature. The detail is perfect for a hand made piece of furniture. Outstanding
When I did my apprenticeship, the apprentice closest to the apprentice exam would be assigned this kind of furniture and make and fit the dovetails and drawers by hand. Making and fitting the drawers was so satisfying and progresses your skill immensely. Amazing work :)
The level of craftsmanship in this dresser is matched by very few. Truly stunning work once again Andy. I, like many others really enjoyed the narration too. An absolute pleasure to watch.
It's so refreshing to look at a video entitled "Building a Shaker....." and not see the construction of a freestanding kitchen cabinet. You have built a very nice piece of furniture.
Again what a wonderful piece of classic furniture. It is a credit to you as a master craftsman to be able to produce such a piece
So much character in the wood that really comes out well, great work!
I have just discovered your channel and am enjoying it very much. You are a very good teacher and your voice is very pleasant to listen to. My Dad and Grandfather were carpenters and I always loved messing around in the shop (although they did not have all the high tech tools you do! lol). But the one tool my Dad would never let us girls use was the table saw. Boy would we ever get in trouble if we even looked at it and to this day I hate watching anyone use one. lol! You should stop and take the opportunity to teach the kids when they come out to your shop. You will not regret it in future years to come. They memories will be priceless!
That is an outstandingly gorgeous piece Andy. Beautiful work. Any owner of that should be incredibly proud to have a such a beautiful and wonderfully built piece of furniture in their home.
Your wizard Andy!
Love it Andy, such a fun build, it turned out so so beautiful! Whoever gets that piece is very lucky!
Another great piece, Andy. Thanks for the dovetail tips - especially the tape and using the router to clear the waste. I always enjoy watching your builds.
That was a great build. I like the pace of the videos. The way you combine modern machinery while still taking the time to put proper handwork in is efficient without being lazy and over dependent. My hats off to you bud.
BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL JOB ‼️‼️🔨 Vinny 🇺🇸
Nice work. I am so glad you give a realistic idea of the time it takes for this level of build. I used to get people coming into the shop and thinking we could finish custom furniture like on TV.
Loved the attention to detail and reasoning why you did some things a certain way. 👌
Mate! That is stunning! I was glued to both Part 1 & 2!!
That's the nicest dresser I've seen it would actually be a shame for someone to put stuff in it......
This is a beautiful piece. Thanks for posting these videos and sharing your thought process and steps. I’m a newbie who’s just beginning my foray into furniture making and the background details are super helpful for me.
dovetails looking killer
Making the back as beautiful as the rest of the piece is a sign of a true craftsman. Most people will never see it but you would know. Thank you for sharing.
That is such a beautiful dresser Andy. Out of sheer quality leaving your shop, you are my top pick on CZcams. I've learned so much as a builder and designer just watching your videos. Long way from implementing some of the skills, but I have definitely learned a lot.
Awesome Andy your craftsmanship is excellent
This is real craftsmanship... different to the other „woodworkers“ on CZcams. As a german cabinetmaker apprentis myself Im very impressed!
I know I'm late to the show, but I love your Hybrid furniture building style. This is exactly how I like to work, granted I'm a few years behind you in experience level.
Absolute pleasure to see you work, as always!
Beautiful work
During the section where you're fitting the dovetail pins, you mention the mark of a good craftsman. Don't sell yourself short, I follow your channel because you are an excellent craftsman and present a good model of what I would expect of a craftsman.
I just can't get enough of these type of videos . I gotta give the blue tape trick a try . Thanks for posting.
Incredible! Nice work Andy
I love it. Love the character in the wood, the design, and the video itself. All top notch.

My thumb is double jointed just like yours. Nice build!
Such a beautiful dresser. Amazing craftsmanship all around.
One of the most impressive builds I've ever watched. Classic furniture build. Thanks for sharing it.
Beautiful piece
Beautiful. Wonderful to see how you made the dresser. Looks so easy, the mark of a craftsman.
Stunning work. You are a skilled and diligent craftsman. Super enjoyable to watch.
That is a gorgeous dresser
After watching this video I never appreciated my surface planer and half blind dove-tail jig more in my life.
Hand crafting is a true skill but I just don't have the patience for it.
Loved watching this. Beautiful!
Beautiful work! Thanks for sharing!
That tape trick is awesome! Thank you!
Beautiful work Andy.....
I love the grain on the third drawer. That’s a beautiful dresser. You made me feel better when you said that these dovetails took you a day and a half. Definitely would have taken me a couple days. Just so you know, I prefer hearing your thoughts as you build and the steps you take and why!
Beautiful like always!!! Love your work!! Thanks
Awesome work! I am planning on building a smaller version of this chest to serve as an occasional table with story for a living room. Deeply appreciate your craftsmanship and humility
A true craftsman - just beautiful!
This is such a lost art. Thanks for sharing your talents with us. I can really appreciate what you have done. The love of WOOD........

Beautiful work man looks awesome and will make someone very proud!
congratulations, a true masterpiece
Absolutely amazing!
what a great woodworker you are.... please make more videos
Thanks Andy. Enjoyed the video. Funny you should mention Horton Brasses. I just ordered from them last week and received some hinges, cabinet ball catch, and cherry drawer handles. Definitely very nice quality and much better than anything you can get at a big box store. My install is this weekend.
What a gorgeous piece! Very impressive sir.
Nice work and video another time! Thanks to share your work men !
Nice work. Best I’ve seen you do on CZcams so far.
I love that piece. You’re getting better and better. Keep it up!
New to the channel today. Excellent work. I'm just starting out at 64 after retirement and I hope to to that point before too long.
Beautiful piece of work
I've been waiting for part 2. great work
Really awesome video! Thanks for putting it out there. Also, those drawer bottoms at the end there looked interesting. I’ll have to look into that method for any wide drawers I make in the future.
Great attention to detail. I enjoyed watching.
Beautiful workmanship
Beautiful work!
Amazing work. Nicely done.
More big builds!
Just, amazing work!
