Great job! Just remember to shine spot light to driver's mirror to conceal your position when approaching subject. Another great tactic is to Walk behind patrol vehicle and approach from passenger side of vehicle throwing the subjects attention away.
And when that spot light is shining in my rear view mirror, is when I quickly rotate it to a different position. Didn't realize it was intentional, but blinding so solved the problem quickly.

Overall, this was a very good interaction. As a police officer with over 10 years in the force, I'd like to relay a few recommendations. 1) Park closer to the vehicle you're stopping: This will minimize the distance between you and the car, in the event that they take off. 2) Walk slower when approaching the vehicle: This allows you to effectively observe your surroundings. Remember, you pulled the car over for a traffic violation, but you don't know the person and their situation. Do you notice anything else bnormal about the car? 3) Look inside the car when you approach. Are there people in the back, weapons, drugs, alcohol? You also didn't pay any attention to the woman in the passenger seat. Is she moving around, why? That's an indicator to strongly consider. 3) Lastly, never turn your back to the trunk of the car. Always stand sideways so that if there is a threat coming from the trunk for example, you have time to respond. You had your back to the trunk the whole time, totally neglecting the possibility of someone hiding in there. A general note, you turned on your intercom when relaying plate to dispatcher. You should never turn it on unless you are giving a lawful command, such as ordering occupants in the vehicle to put their hands outside the car. As a police officer, I can tell you that we must always prepare for the worst, but hope for the best.
@brandonmoucatel9630 Well, it was some advice in case she's in the police academy. If anything, it's so that she can improve. We were all there once in the academy; if she is, in fact, the academy. I'm just trying to help her out. I didn't expect anything ahead of time. I'm just responding to the prevailing observations I made from the video..
As a 13 year old LEO enthusiast, This was a very good traffic stop and interaction. Although, I do recommend that you park closer to the vehicle as the suspect might take off on you.
Did a great job but you got to be more confident and when you make a contact approach for interview make sure you look very confident when you conduct a interview😊
She seemed confident to me. You don't wanna come off aggressive. You don't wanna make them not want to cooperate with you, because if you act like a hard ass, they are more likely to act that same way back to you. If you escalate it, they will escalate it too. If you remain calm, then they'll remain calm too and the interaction will go great. You have to remember, everyone has a camera nowadays. If you act like a jerk, you'll be looking for a new job and it's that simple.
I've been pulled over like 10 times in my life and never has an officer has been courteous for my safety and let me know that after he turned the lights off it was safe for me to go back to traffic lol
It's actually a safety hazard to pull off with their lights deactivated. They need to keep them on in order to alert traffic to a situation ahead, i.e. pedestrians in a roadway, traffic merging, etc. (a usual stop). I don't know why they would teach to pull off with their lights off, as I know it's generally regarded as a safety concern in law enforcement.
When you park your cruiser Three counties away you need the bright orange pants so they can see you walking on the side of the road😁...JK...looks like she's having fun.
Good thing this was a LEO Training class at a Tech College because yeah yo so don't want to wear "bell bottom" style pants, no vest, park a block away, not have vehicle at a 20+° left angle to create a buffer between yourself and the traffic, not have the wheels turned all the way Left so if your unit is rear ended (struck from behind) it goes out onto traffic and away from the stop versus into you or your vehicle you have stopped. Yes, they say turn left. I always turned them right. Most of the time there is a ditch to right. I don't like the left because the danger it poses to the innocent traffic passing by if someone in front of them strikes you from the rear. But this is all things you will continue to learn throughout your career. Overall, good job. Stay safe! And God Bless!
keep doing what your instructors are saying, this is the academy, a baseline. But even now, pay attention to what is going on in the car as you approach and interact. Everything else is minor. FTO will tighten this academy baseline up. If you want to be an above average cop, when you're out of FTO go take an interdiction class, even if you don't plan on ever doing any interdiction.
Very good, but you just have to say can I get a 28 or 27 not 1027. Also when you clear 10-8 u don't have to give the outcome of the stop. And the taillight is only required to be fingerprinted once.
Way too far away from the other vehicle. Most of my family is in law enforcement and they said right off the bat that far of distance can get you killed. She needs to be almost right up on them. Nowhere to run and cover if a weapon was being pulled. She needs more training and told about this and have it corrected by her instructors.
She still did good the only thang I recommend for the new Police recruits always approach from the right side to be safe from someone hitting you other than that she follow all procedure.
Never park your patrol car a great distance from the suspect car. By doing this in a real situation it could potentially be fatal if your suspect was to pull a gun on you you wouldn't have immediate cover to get behind
I have to say that she is being trained wrong. #1- She should have never taken her eyes off the car and occupiants as she walked up to them, she could have been shot or backed over while bird watching. #2 - when finished with the stop she was again bird watching walking back to her car and walking to slowly. Lack of ituational awareness and complacency can get cops hurt or worse. While walking to the car she should be doing so slowly watching for danger signs. On termination of the stop she should be walking slightly faster to get out of the danger area and be walking slightly sideways to keep the car in sight. #3 - I know cops like to go fishing for information and interrogate drivers but you/they need to stop. It's none of your/their business where she's coming from, where she's going, where she works or goes to school, what her job is or what she's studying. It's none of your business if if she still lives at the address that's on her license, how many times a day she farts, or sings to herself. All you/they need is DL, POI, and registration.
