  • Logosol M8 -- The Swedish Portable Sawmill
With the Logosol Sawmill M8 you can quickly produce high-class planks and boards from your logs, in the length and dimensions of your choice. The sawmill is simple to use -- and easy to own.
If you have not cut timber before, the M8 is the perfect choice. You will quickly get started and the sawmill is very easy to use. The first day you will already have produced a good-sized stack of planks and boards. Visible scales and the possibility of sawing in fixed steps make setting quick and accurate. Everything is clearly described in the book that comes with every sawmill.
The accuracy is impressive, no matter if you are sawing boards for panelling or squared logs for building log houses. The M8 can cut all sorts of wood both from the forest and the garden: oak, aspen, juniper, apple tree, cherry tree, larch. The list goes on.
The sawmill is built of strong, anodized aluminium, a material that gives it fantastic qualities. Besides being forever rustproof and storable outdoors, it is so strong and rigid that it can easily take large-diameter logs. At the same time it is so lightweight that you can lift and move it by hand. The coating of the sawmill gives a fine and dirt-repellent surface, which also prevents snow and ice from sticking to the sawmill. The sawmill is almost maintenance free, and it will work when you need it, for decades.
The log ramps and the log beds with integrated winches enable you to cut timber without much effort. The log comes up to a level that makes it comfortable for you to secure it on the sawmill. The compact design makes it even easier when the log is to be turned over, since you then can come close to the sawmill and have a good working posture. But another feature that is just as important for your convenience is that the boards come at an easily accessible waist level, making them easy to lift from the sawmill.
In other words, the Logosol Sawmill not only saves your time, but also spares your back.
Fixed log supports are fitted at an exact angle to the log beds. The fixed supports save time, as they never require resetting between the saw cuts, and you do not have to adjust the log clamps. This gives you even better accuracy, as the log that is sawn into boards is supported from the log bed and up to the topside.
In addition, the design of the sawmill makes it suitable for sawing in the winter. All important functions of the sawmill are raised from the snow cover and the sawdust is thrown out away from the sawing spot. This is an important quality in the winter, since sawdust acts as a reinforcement and makes the snow hard as stone. When you have finished you can easily move the sawmill from the spot.
Many of our customers have their sawmill for stationary use. You can also take your sawmill with you and put it up on the spot where the logs are, in the forest, on your backyard, or anywhere else.
The Logosol Sawmill is easiest powered by an ordinary chainsaw. The typical saw unit is a Stihl MS660, which with its seven horsepower and thin guide bar cuts the timber quickly and gives a fine and smooth sawn surface. With such equipment you can saw five metres a minute from a 15 cm (6") thick squared log. The big electric saw unit, Logosol E8000, with automatic feeding, doubles the speed, and with the bandsaw you can even saw 15 m/min (50 ft/min).
But technical data is one thing, working in practise is another. The timber is not only to be sawn up; it should also be stacked. In addition, new logs need to be rolled to the sawmill and, above all, you need a coffee break now and then. We who use the sawmill can from experience say that we produce between two and four cubic metres (850-1700 board feet) sawn timber in one working day, and if you get help from a friend you will produce even more.
You will appreciate the feeling you get by working with quality timber that you have sawn yourself. With the Logosol Sawmill M8, it becomes a pleasure to cut it from your own trees.
The best thing we can give to you who have recently become a sawmill owner, is probably the job satisfaction and pride you will feel when you have finished your first project. This is an investment that you will not regret, and that is part of the warranty!

This mill is absolute genius, the way every detail has been handled. All DIY machines I have seen have no thought to getting the log elevated or feeding the saw. You're lucky to get a "log house cut" out of them, because they lack accuracy . I am humbled ! Worth every dollar !

If you cut a lot of logs, you need to sharpen the chain for about every 5th log. Both Husky and Stihl lasts for over 10 years, if you take care of them in the right way.

You need to turn the handle somewhere between 15-20 rounds per meter. A normal hand pushed band saw is a lot heavier, which make is a lot easier to push it with a smooth and constant speed.
The crank and rope makes it possible to build up a tension that you use to get a smooth feeding.

That's very good for small logs . You would not move a 20 ft 3 ft round log on that mill . That's why I engineered a set of separate rail and hydraulic lifts that can be used in other jobs ,not just milling . On top of that engineered a separate attachment for any saw to make beveled material for siding ,shims in building ,trim and so on.

Wow, excellent job, A+ to the video production team and narration. They sure made it look easy. I'm so excited! What does Logosol have that can handle some beautiful 36" diameter Georgia pines that weigh a ton every 3 meters? I need some 4"x6" beams mostly. I'm building some things. That's a nice rig there anyway. I would opt for a motorized system to pull the saw through. I wish I could find more electric powered mills because the noise the gas engines make is rather obnoxious (not to mention the fumes) and drowns out me classic rock I listen to with my headphones.

Nice looking critter, my concern would be dealing with heavier logs, it would seem that you just couldn't saw anything large... Really been researching cheaper sawmills for use on the farm here and I like everything else about this one except for how high you have to manually lift the logs... Some wood is heavier than others and where I live, it would take a very stout fellow to lift a log the size that this guy was lifting.

Can I repeat my question posted a few months ago? Is there a good way to mill short logs with the M8? I bought an M8, and now I kind of regret it because it is not adapted for milling short logs. Where I live it is mostly short logs that are available. I really can't afford to by another mill, such as a Farmers mill, so I think I am stuck with a mill that is less than optimal for my purpose.
What about the new F2? I can't afford to buy that either, but I would like to learn about it.

@syiunshi that would make any other more portable system useless because you'd still need to get your lumber out of there, unless you plan to build a cabin there

This seems like a sawmill worth fabricating at home.

You are only showing light weight and straight logs. Wonder if it would handle Oak, Cherry, White Ash logs? Also, logs with a curve in them?

When we are shooting the films in Sweden we only have access to nice looking logs, but our sawmill handles all types of logs, our customers can vouch for that. Have a look at our dealer in Australia and his Facebook page to find some more exotic wood being milled.

I have a logosol M8 with a Stihl MS660 and ripping chain, and it won't cut even 10% as fast as what I see in the videos, even after I sharpen the chain.

@@billdavies6130 Thanks for the comment. So far I have cut pine, spruce, aspen, silver poplar, and honey locust. Of those woods, only honey locust is very hard, and two of those five species are officially classed as "softwood."

These guys are Swedish- the Swedish people invented Husqvarna yet these Swedish fellas are using Stihl. What more proof do you need? Stihl is the BEST!

Stihl is German...what's your point? They are both the leaders of chainsaws, power products...I own a Husqvarna chainsaw and a Stihl multi-tool including a chainsaw... they are all top notch quality tools????
